A Snellen Eye Chart is an eye chart used by eye care professionals and others to measure visual acuity. Snellen charts are named after the Dutch ophthalmologist Herman Snellen who developed the chart in 1862. While the classic Snellen chart is typically placed at 20' or 6m, pocket-sized versions such as this one can provide useful screens for rough visual acuity.
Dok's free Snellen Eye Chart is part of a larger collection of useful medical tools and references. If you like the Snellen Eye Chart, please check out Dok's other products.
REVIEWS
"This is a great little app when you're triaging, and can't get the formal eyechart posted somewhere else in your department. Both other nurses and residents borrow my 'pod', multiple times each week just for this app." - Jfetts
"I am and EMP in a busy ED. I use this app at least twice per week to check patients' vision." - RGrantMD
"...this app is for doctors, nurses and other health care professionals, to use in physical exam or triage, especially if you're on the move. A very convenient tool to have, exactly the same as the visual acuity cards we use at school. - Pyccku

Neither useful nor entertaining   This is a misleading and ultimately useless application. Any "results" obtained are dubious, because they will depend heavily on lighting conditions (which alters how visible the iPhone's screen is). While some might claim it still gives you an indication of vision, well, yes, but *anything* can do that. See if people can read the names of the apps on your iPhone. Or a menu. You don't need 20/20 vision to see that this app is worthless. Maybe the medical author should wait until he finishes med school and try again.

Great for what it's made for   This app works great for its intended purpose: as a fast and fun screening tool. It is not meant to pick up your voice as you say the letters or go to 20/15. If you got all the way to 20/15, great! It only goes to 20/20 because 20/20 is normal. It is supposed to tell if you can't get to 20/20, not 20/15.

What U C is what U get!   I'd like to address the review, "Good app (v1.1) by Kotchy", written on Feb 3, 2009.You said, "You can't have better than 20-20 vision.Hundreds if not thousands of people have read your review and now they all know how ignorant you really are!I've had 20/15 vision for over 60 year. But don't feel too bad, cuz whoever make this app must think the same as you. ;^)That's why I gave this app just 1 star. When they add an update that includes 20/10 or at least 20/15, I'll give another review with 5 stars.

Another inaccurate eye chart   A good idea for an app however the letters are the wrong size when measured for a four foot viewing distance. Also in the help section the developer leads the reader to believe that astigmatism is not the same as a refractive error. Astigmatism is a refractive error. Also please spell check, hyperopia not hyeropia. If you produce a medical app, free or not, even with a caveat, please make it accurate. - EyeChart review by Ptosis
Why not for the Touch??   How about those of us healthcare professionals using the Touch and not the iPhone? I am not seeing why this shouldn't be compatible for both! - EyeChart review by ziack
Simply, but effective   Nice simple app. Always nice to have a mobile eye exam for medical professionals. I have a pocket eye chart but I frequently misplace it. It will be nice to have one in the iPhone (which I never misplace). For reference: 6 feet is approx the distance from the pt in bed to the foot of the hospital bed. So measure 2 feet towards the pt from the foot of the bed (4ft). - EyeChart review by PRDr
Quick, handy, and slick!   I'm a big fan. Firstly, nothing's better than a free, solid product. Secondly, it's a crisp image and seems pretty accurate. I've tried it out on about a dozen patients/friends so far and it's on par with all my other "pocket" Eye Charts. Can't wait to see what else is in the pipeline. - EyeChart review by CaliDoc
Wow!!   Nunca espere ver la cartilla de Snellen en Mi iPhone, es una herramienta muy util al momento en q se vaya la luz!!! Nice!!!! - EyeChart review by Vferrer22
Another test...   This is a great app. I can now study for my eye exam coming up on the 18th of December.
With this, I'm sure I'll pass with flying colors! - EyeChart review by 35BenzMan
Ha ha   It works fine for my ipod touch.
It does what its supposed to do. - EyeChart review by Hi im the original Mr. Cool
Great tool for work and home!   Accurate, fast, easy to use and free. You can't get a much better combination. Seems to work just as well as a wall chart (although I haven't actually tested this). Kids love it and tests can be done in exam room. Great product! - EyeChart review by Dave SC
Hint: Standard ear bud cord is 3'8"   In response to review entitled "Huh?" who asks 'How do we know we are 4 feet from the patient?'. The standard cord length of your Apple supplied ear buds is 3'8". But measure yours. 4 ft is cord plus 4 inches Given the fact that this App is free and just for screening this is a handy application. - EyeChart review by Dr. O'Boogie
Good app   Good app does what it says it will.
To Kotchy - Get your facts straight, you CAN have better than normal (20/20) vision. The 1st number is how far away the person stood from a full size chart. The 2nd number is how far away a person with normal vision could stand from the full size chart & still read the same row of letters. Therefore, a person with 20/15 vision can read at 20 feet what a person with normal vision can only read at 15 feet, thus better than "normal" vision. Note that each eye can also have different results. - EyeChart review by Malteselbi
Cool app   Fun to test yourself and others. Not 100% accurate, but it's free. - EyeChart review by PinkL2
Awesome but...   Great app!!! I luv it I use on all of my friends. But sadly most didn't pass... that includes me. =( Pout - EyeChart review by $urferGirl27
