AroundMe quickly identifies your position and allows you to choose the nearest Bank, Bar, Gas Station, Hospital, Hotel, Movie Theatre, Restaurant, Supermarket, Theatre and Taxi.
AroundMe shows you a complete list of all the businesses in the category you have tapped on along with the distance from where you are.
For every listing you can choose to see its location on a Map, view the route from where you are, add the information to your contact list or even email the information to a friend.
The Nearby listing allows you to find information using Wikipedia about what is around you.

Funny I havn't laughed so hard in a long time! Searching restauraunts, it told me there was a Burger King 14 YARDS away! At MY address. The map pointed to the side yard of my house. Now I know what to have for dinner tonight... Next, I searched for Hospitals. Instead of the hospital a mile down the road, it gave me the address of the retired nurse living around the corner. ( I guess she has a hospital in her side yard) I can hardly wait to find what other secrets the neighborhood has been hiding.

Its strength is its weakness I have tried this in several German cities (Berlin, Munich etc.) now and it generally works fine, since it's mostly a frontend to Google's area information -- which also makes it a bit unreliable sometimes, since the data is often rather out of date...!Also it occasionally shows you redundant information or just misses the point, like when I search for restaurants and most search results show me hotels, becuase that's how they seem to be defined in Google's database...!?It's still okay for the price and can be useful at some occasions...but it would be even better if it used other or more databases than just what Google offers... - AroundMe review by mangaphreak
Settings? I love it. I just wish it had settings so I can change it from yards to feet, miles, etc. I don't think a search is necessary sorta defeats the purpose. If you need to search use google. - AroundMe review by chikia

Great but I have a couple of feature requests. Great application that I will be using quite a bit. I have two requests. I wish I could expand the search radius when I want to. It seems that AroundMe uses a search radius that varies until a certain number of results are achieved. The problem with that is, for example, I was downtown Milwaukee with several restaurants around me. I wanted to find a Wendy's but all the results around me were constrained to 1 mile and there wasn't one in the 1 mile radius. I'm sure there was one in a two mile radius but I couldn't expand the radius. When I'm home, I get a 2 mile radius for restaurants. I'm guessing this is because there are not as many restaurants by my house.AroundMe also sorts by distance which is cool, but it would be cool to be able to sort alphabetically so if you know the name of the establishment you are looking for, you can quickly find it especially when there are several results.Outside of those requests, the program does what it claims to do, and does it well. As for the accuracy of the data (names, numbers etc.), I would guess that is a function of how accurate the information from Google is and how the data is classified by Google. - AroundMe review by Muyi

Just Another Search Engine but without options Can not figure out the search criteria. For instance, it shows me a page or two of coffee & bars what only extends 3 miles from my current location. I search Movie Theaters it show theaters up to 41 miles from my location, but misses a huge movie complex that is only 8 miles from me. You can't change the search criteria. Also interesting that hospital search included pet hospitals, a children's heart center (actually a doctor's office). If you needed a hospital in a hurry don't use this one. Additionally there is no description when you select a business, just a phone number and address. There are many more interesting programs like Yelp which at least includes user ratings. I would pass on this. Again, it would have been very nice to try this program before committing to purchase. - AroundMe review by Richardcnj

Milpitas, CA?? This app apparently can't differenciate between Milpitas, California and Houston, Texas. Therefore, it's utterly useless to me. Shame it doesn't have a zip code option. I really wanted to like this, but I'm forced to delete it. - AroundMe review by thepr0fessor

Friggin Awesome The only complaint: it'd be nice to be able to tell the app where I am in case the phone doesn't know. Sometimes it has trouble determining my location.
Otherwise, excellent.
