HT Professional Recorder - Andrew Berlin
Record and edit business meetings, lectures, and conferences right on the phone. Awesome for students and business people. Captures sound at a distance. Take notes while recording in the background.
HT Professional Recorder makes it possible to record conversations throughout a large room, even in situations where the people talking are located several feet away from the phone. Reinforces soft voices - even whispers - Ideal for college lectures, board meetings, and conferences, as well as dictation. Automatically skips silence during recording.
E-mail recordings as attachments, up to 1 hour long (30 minutes on older iPhones).
Bookmarking feature makes it easy to remember and replay important moments. Overwrite capability makes it easy to correct dictation.
This is the recorder to get if you care how things sound when recorded at a distance. Signal processing algorithms capture conversations throughout a room, recording both near and distant voices clearly.
Transfer recordings up to 30 minutes in length via E-mail, and recordings up to 15 hours in length via WiFi using your computer's web browser or via an FTP server.
Note: Use on iPod Touch 2nd Generation requires external earbud microphone accessory. iPhone will not record during cellular phone calls. Ability to record or playback in the background while running other tasks (such as note-taking) requires iOS4 on an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. File transfer via USB cable requires iOS 3.2.2 or later.
- Exceptional sound quality for conversations >4 feet from the phone
- E-mail recordings up to 30 minutes in length as .WAV attachments.
- Overwrite capability permits correction of dictation.
- Append to any recording to keep 'TODO' lists in one place
- WiFi file transfer to any computer via simple web browser interface, or via FTP.
- 3 levels of microphone gain sensitivity
- Repeat mode
- Audio bookmarking lets you skip to important segments in an instant.
- Speed-up, slow-down, and jump to next/previous bookmark for quick review of notes.
- Auto Record option starts recording when program launches.
- One-touch positioning to any point in the file
Email feature is provided via built-in iOS Email system. Additionally, access to the legacy RelayPhone service is available as a SETTING option. Relayphone is operated by Applied Voices LLC. The best of the best   I have tried 4 other recorders and this is BY FAR the best in terms of voice quality...even at a distance. I disagree with other reviewers - I like the interface a lot - it is different, but it has some pizazz and is very functional. I recommended it to my brother who was looking for a recorder, but he wouldn't pay $9.99 for it. When I purchased version 1.1 in Nov. 08 it was only $2.99. Sad thing is, it's probably well worth the 10 bucks, but I probably wouldn't pay it either without the ability to have seen for myself how much better than all the other recorders it truly is.

Wow   I've been looking for an app to record meetings. The way this application processes and records sound completely compensates for the low quality of the iPhone mic. When I did a side by side comparison of this apps recording to other apps it was astounding the difference. If you guys want to prove how good this app records do a controlled test with a couple iphones and the other software out there in the app store. Post that on your website. Again - wow
All that said the interface is Terrible. The developers obviously spent a ton of time developing the algorythms and software - you boys need to take some time and make the GUI more straight forward. I know I know - when you get to know this interface and how it works it's east to use - but the test should be; can a random person pick it up and just by looking understand how to use it. I use this app all the time buy can't sell my coworkers on this because of the damn interface. Fix it! I want to be able to pitch this awesome functionality!!
Good work guys - Look forward to the upgrade

Absolutely Worth the Price   This app is worth every penny. The support is great. The developer even provides a user's manual! Nothing like a little RTFM when you get stuck and the FM is actually there and is understandable. I love the fact that to download your recordings he provides two options that are not dependent on a proprietary or 3rd party service. You can transfer recordings via FTP, which is slow as heck btw, or use the built in web server. The sound quality is excellent and it does not drain your battery life. I recorded for over an hour with very little affect on my battery.Great app!

Beats DictaNet by far   many great features: sounds, set-up and relaying. If you could e-mail your recordings, instead of struggling through putting them on a web page with the subsequent necessity to relay the specific URLs and passwords to different persons, it would one of the true killer apps for the iPhone!!!

For me, this is a great product!   I've only had this product for a day, and it's a great recorder with lots of flexibility. Super sound quality! Much better than any of the 5-6 other recorders I have used.

Unbelievable Quality   I usually don't write reviews but I was amazed at the quality of the recordings. I turned on the recorder and walked in another room in my house, spoke with a normal voice and the recorder picked it up crystal clear. I used the recorder in a large meeting yesterday. The recording was actually better than I could hear the person speaking when I was in the meeting. I am amazed. That said, it would be nice if the screen would flip flop when held upside down. Keep up the great work!!

Very good   This is a very good recorder. I have now used over 10 recording/dictation programs for the iPhone. This is the best I have seen for recording a lecture or in a conference setting and is second only to JMdictate for professional dictation.

I dictate a lot
Definitely a Professional Recorder   I recorded a conference presentation last week and the results of using HT Professional Recorder went well-beyond my expectations. Sitting about 20' from the presenter, I set HT Professional Recorder in "conference room" mode and placed my iPhone 3G on the table with the iPhone mic aimed at the presenter's walking zone. (The recording lasted about 1.5 hours.) Afterwards, the wireless file transfer to my MacBook Pro was simple to setup and very fast. (File size approx. 166MB.) Clearly, the developer has put a significant amount of time and effort in optimizing the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms for the 3 modes--large halls; conference rooms; dictation--the clarity of the recording was stellar. I have purchased and used Bias' iRecorderPro and Griffin's iTalk Premium; however, HT Professional Recorder's 3 DSP modes are valuable and important differentiators. Congratulations Applied Voices for delivering a high-quality audio recorder for the iPhone.

A Great Recorder   I purchase a few recorders because I wanted to know which was the best of the best. After about one month of testing, I am not able to thoroughly test the other recorders because this one is so good! Try it for youself. You will not be disappointed. I own about 5 different recorders and feel that this one is the best.
Update 3/7/2009:
I love this recorder so much I had to come and say more. The UI for this program is way more advanced than any other recorder that I have tried so far. When any one see you using it, they will be thoroughly impressed. This recorder is definitely worth the money! Take time to learn all the features.

10 stars   this app is exactly as advertised, great quality sound recorder, perfect price, also the developer is a very nice person, I couldn't upload files to my computer and he worked with me until we solve the problem. - HT Professional Recorder review by Erodviorato
Exceptional!   I have used 4 others but this one is the best in every category hands down! I highly recommend to all.... - HT Professional Recorder review by MsYvetteKing
Narrowed to HappyTalk of all the voice recorders   I downloaded HappyTalk yesterday. It’s a great program. I have purchased all of the voice recorder programs trying to narrow to the best one. HappyTalk is it. The voice quality is excellent and the different recording profiles are unique among all of the recording programs. Also, the volume is loud so that's a big help and difference. The interface is decent and the ftp upload excellent, however many users may not have a ftp server available but if you do, then this transfer method to PC or Mac is the easiest. - HT Professional Recorder review by gabigfoot
Better than the others, but not "slick"   I have several voice recording apps that are really slick with sophisticated graphics and intricate file transfer systems. But Happy Talk has something none of the others have: REALLY GREAT SOUND!!!The thing that makes the sound great is the ability to control the type of voice going in. I like to record the classes that I teach with my Etymotic headset. But that puts the microphone right next to my mouth. The other recording app I used was too sensitive and causes all sorts of horrible distortions. I asked the company that made it if they could make a volume control and they said no. Apple wouldn't allow it.But HappyTalk Recorder has a setting for "Very Close" that is EXACTLY what I needed.Don't let the 1989 graphics and interface turn you off. This product is much better than its interface and instructions suggest. The user manual (available on their web site) was written by someone who knows English well, but doesn't quite have all the best phrasing. Also, some of the steps are confusing where you're working on the iPhone in one step and then have jumped to your computer in the next without any warning. But I would easily recommend this application over many of the others. - HT Professional Recorder review by vectorbabe
Great for Transcribing   I've purchased several of these recording apps, and this one meets my needs the best. Here's why: I often record speeches when I'm out walking or driving, and then have to transcribe them myself. HappyTalk's ability to slow down playback, along with it's 5 second and 15 second reverse buttons, make transcribing a breeze. Can't believe it's only 2 bucks. - HT Professional Recorder review by LPars
Works great! Less filling!   Priced right and very functional without needless complexity. Well thought-out interface and simple to use. I am glad I found this one after trying another recorder app that was rated well but did not perform.
I would give another star for some folder based management of the recordings, and faster startup from the splash screen. It's not terribly long, but at least half the time, when I decide to record someone else, I should already have BEEN recording, so every second counts.
Nice-to-haves would include some peaking indicator (distorts horribly with the iPhone headset, even in Very Close Mode, yet works perfectly with the built-in mic), and also: maybe a UI that's just a bit less garish on the color scheme.
I have not evaluated the upload feature yet, buy this looks SOLID so far. - HT Professional Recorder review by memobug
FTP TIP   On the topic of FTP dying when device puts the display to sleep (screen lock).
In device preferences, you can set auto screen lock to "never" to FTP upload with no interuptions. Hope your iPhone doesn't get a call while uploading that concert you recorded (set airplane mode on to take care of that) - HT Professional Recorder review by -Acker
Freakin' AWESOME Customer Service   I downloaded this app b/c it had great reviews from the people that offered to give a review. I really liked the quality of the recording and used it to record a very important conversation and then tried the ever so fun FTP game... Now, I've used FTP on a pc before, but it was a new thing on my iMac. After a week of UNsuccessful attempts to get it to upload, and after talking to Mac Support for an hour, I found an email address to "Report a Problem with HappyTalk". In a matter of minutes, I received an email back telling me "no prob! we can help! you should have emailed us sooner!!" And after EXCELLENT customer service and a few emails back and forth, Andy (My HappyTalk Angel) had me up and running and SUCCESSFULLY transferring my recordings via my own FTP!! I just have to say, HappyTalk rocks and so does Andy Berlin!!Thank you Andy!!!! - HT Professional Recorder review by jamzpooh
Excellent voice recorder!   This application has incredible voice quality and makes it easy to transfer the recordings to your computer. Just remember that there are 3 settings for recording to choose from. Auditorium works great for classrooms! Also this application allows you to lock your iphone and still record audio. Thanks Applied Voices!!! - HT Professional Recorder review by kingiggy
Best of the best   This app is AMAZING. I recorded a meeting of six people at a table in a coffee shop where there was all sorts of background noise. I was sure the recording would be useless, but to my wonderment the recording was significantly easier to understand than sitting there live. Truly impressive. I had tried another recorder app and had to do tons of post-processing to end up with anything even close to intelligible. With this app it's just a matter of converting the CAF file into an MP3. (But, why CAF? That's not a very widely supported format and it's not one LAME supports natively, which adds an extra step. AIFF or WAV would be much more convenient.) There is nothing I need to do to make the recording better afterwords. And for me, being able to upload the files from my phone to an FTP server is SO much more convenient than having to go to my computer, put the iPhone app into web server mode and download from my computer. This app would be worth the asking price just for the FTP capability, but the audio capabilities of this are top notch! For those who ding the interface: this is a utility, not a game. Yes, it's a bit odd, but it's not at all difficult to figure out or use. Personally, I can't imagine why that would be worth deducting a star when this app *PERFORMS* so well. - HT Professional Recorder review by mscott-the real one
Not as great as the reviewers say   I have quick voice and downloaded this recorder thinking after reading reviews and the authors disciption must be great. Boy was I disappointed. The playback sounds very airy. I am sad to say I wish that I had not purchased this app. - HT Professional Recorder review by JSWSN
