ResistorCode - Christopher Brown
This handy little app enables you to work out the values for 4, 5 and 6 Band resistors. Simply set the values on the Picker Wheels and wait for the value to appear, there is a visual representation of the Resistor with the color bands too.
You can also type the desired value into the Search Bar at the top and it will find the closest possible value and display it.
Included is a utility for calculating the sum of Resistors in either Series or Parallel. Touch the '±' symbol next to the resistance value on either the 4, 5 or 6 band view for the value to be added to the calculator list. When viewing the Calculator you can then edit the list and view the result.
If you want to reset the wheels or clear all the values from the calculator, simply shake your iPhone or iPod Touch.
If you have any comments or suggestions please leave feedback. 2008, Christopher Brown

Sweet   It works great on my 1st generation iPod Touch. Someone suggested being able to enter the resistor numbers and get the color bands instead. Well, that's what the search box does! Put in a value and the color bands come right up.
Of course back in school we had to memorize the whole system but it never hurts to double check your numbers.

Why no iPod Touch support?   I wish I could give 0 Stars for this app in its current state. Awesome how it doesn't work for the iPod Touch (not sure the reasoning behind this decision, pretty sure it's not a technical reason) & the url posted for support doesn't work. It has promise though. It'd be awesome if you implemented the input of known ohms to get the color sequence if the colors are unknown. This app could help me greatly in one of my classes.

Incredible!!!!   This man deserves an award. This is the most useful application I have found in the appstore.

Great for decoding actual resistors   This is a great app if you’ve got a real resistor, even exotic ones with tolerances of better than 1% (5 bands) or ones with controlled temperature coefficients (sixth band). However…This app would have been better if it showed only real options. If one actually has a five-band resistor, it HAS to have a 1% tolerance (or better); there is no such thing as a 102 Ω resistor with a tolerance of ±20%. Accordingly, the five-band list should have tolerance options of only brown, green, blue, violet, and gray (1% or better). Gold, silver, red, and [none] (2% or worse) should be left off the scroll wheel as options. What I do like about this app over how others work is it gives color names on the scroll wheels rather than unlegened color swatches; the swatch-alone systems I’ve see on other resistor decoders just don’t seem to work as well as they ought to. And of course, what sets this app apart from the other free options is it handles 5 and 6-band systems. If this was a 99¢ program, I’d give it three stars. But it’s free and Christopher Brown was kind enough to write a six-band resistor decoder, run it through Apple’s review process, and provide it here for FREE. For that, it gets four stars. If a future upgrade showed only real-life options, I’d give it five stars among free apps.

Why not iPod touch   I'm just wondering whether this app uses some functions that iPhone shares but not iPod touch.Who can gimme an explanation?I'm going to think highly of the free application, due to its usefullness, if it would support iPod touch

DOES work on touch   Does what it says it will. Good reference for engineering people. Works on iPod touch, despite what some idiots here say. All apps that work on the iPhone work on the touch, excepting apps that utilize gps or mic extensivly (though 2nd gen touch has mic support) and even those will function they just won't do much. Idiots. Solid app.

Great App   Great application! Perfect user interface! Would get 5 stars if inputing the resistor value gave you the resistor color code.

No touch?   I feel the same way as the poster below. Why is this not available on the touch? I don't see why this program, which seems useful, is not on the touch.

ipod touch support?   i like the look and layout of this much more than the other free resistor program, but why is this not compatible with the ipod touch? does it use something that only the iphone has?

Handy and works   This is a very handy application for me and I no longer have to look around for my code chart when I am working on the bench. Straightforward interface that is easy to use (just like the "wheels" to set the time of an event in the Calendar app). It just works. Nice job.

Great and simple   You can get Some values that don't exist but if you use your head it works fine for simple use. Also don't screw up the rating just because it won't work for the touch.....

Needs work, but good enough   To get 5 stars, it needs to show real resistor values. For example there are no 1.1k 20% resistors.

Nice app   Great app and interface but one suggestion: have it go both ways so that you can type the numerical value of the resistor first and then get the corresponding color bands
