One international country   I live in the Philippines and was instantly impressed when this located my iPhone to within one house in a very cramped subdivision. 10 minutes later, the report was saying I was about 2 kilometers away (I had gone back into the house from the terrace). Now if GadgetTrak could tell us on the report if the location was by GPS or cell phone triangulation, that would improve this dramatically, letting users know which location on the report was the most likely actual location.......or I could just move back to the US.

Good idea..   Great idea...but if I was a thief, the LAST thing I would want to do is click on an icon that says "Trak". It's common sense. Change the name to "Internet".

It's ok   Needs a update though. On the location it said that my itouch was located down the street of my house which is like 4 houses off. Then there is the matter of changeing the icon

Best to think outside the box   While others are choosing to denigrate this app, I choose to find useful purposes for it. I am a single, active person who goes horseback riding in remote areas. I also do dirt bike riding alone. If I was to choose to use this app every so often, my girlfriend could use this app to either know that I am ok and am reporting in, or she could use it to send help for me if I was found to not have reported in and was unreachable via phone.I could also imagine a fleet of employees who had all been given routes for deliveries. I would require that each driver use the app upon arrival to each destination. Given that each route and delivery would require different lengths of time, as the day progressed, I could easily see just how far each employee was in to their task. As the day progressed, I could identify which drivers were going to finish early and which drivers were going to need help in getting their deliveries done on time. I could then contact those drivers and have them coordinate the sharing of yet to be done deliveries. It would only take seconds for each driver to be reporting their position and I would not have to be manually talking to each driver to know how their day was progressing. For these kind of uses, this app is a free and valuable app. Having said that, it would be handy to be able to change the icon that is used for the application so that if the user wanted to deceive someone who found the device, it would be easier to do.

Idea   What I would like to see is the GadgetTrak run after the password for the iPhone auto lock is entered incorrectly X number of times. Instead of deleting all the information from the iPhone that is the current option.

Inaccurate   When it gets tracked, I once tested and I knew my exact location and it said my itouch was at a different location. I suggest an update that makes it more accurate

Great, but needs more!   Hey! You need to change the icon title from Trak to something more deceiving to trick thiefs. They won't open it if they are suspicious. Fix this and it's a perfect app. Write your own review saying they need to change the icon name if you agree! This will help them do it faster

Awesome app   I had this app for a few months and it's awesome. If you type in the cordinants on google earth that you get when you view it's location on the website it shows the exact location. This is a awesome app that works but I don't like the app icon. I liked the icon with the red fingerprint better. I have about 2 other apps that look like the compass icon. Go back to the red fingerprint!!!

Good step in the right direction but still not enough.   If the iphone is password protected and entered it more than 10 times all the date will get wiped. What good does it do then?Apple should come out with a buil in chip on the phone itselft to send out location via GPS.My niece just got her Iphone stolen on HER BIRTHDAY by one of the uninvited guest that camewith one of her friend.Police reported were filed and neither apple nor att can do anything about it.now I have to get her a new phone which will cost me double than what I paid for. Both ATT and Apple will benefit from a stolen iphone may be that's why they don't want to do anything about it.ATT will gain one more customer and Apple get to sell another Iphone.

Maybe I don't get it.   So, I install this, set it up, and it tracks my phone, once I hit the trak program. So, I guess that all works. But, how do I get a thief to hit the trak program... maybe I don't understand, I know some stupid people, but I don't think I know anybody who is stupid enough to steal something, and then start a program called "trak", with a fingerprint icon. How does this track the stolen phone without someone hitting this icon? Now, here's an idea. I usually have a few safari pages I leave open all the time, such as Google (for gmail, and for reader), and accuweather... so if gadgettrak set it up so that I can view these webpages through the gadgettrak server so that I don't ever notice I am going through the gadgettrak site, but each time I open safari, it tracks the location of my phone while I view the site, then it would be able to stealthily track my phone. Or, if gadgettrak renamed their program to "Porn" or "Private photos" and changed the icon, then a thief is much more likely to check that out, and the program could put a screen saying "updating from servers" while it actually grabs the location, and maybe even automagically take a photo without letting the thief know (if the SDK lets this happen). Once someone hits this button, and the tracking info is updated, it then emails the owner that the phone has been found, and to log in to check it out. The program could then re-direct the thief to a website of the owners choosing, so that the thief is rewarded, and then might retry the program again later to get another hit.Vote yes to agree. - GadgetTrak review by Russ A.
But it's so obvious!   Yes, it's free and a nice idea, but once you have it installed on your ipod touch or iphone, it's visible in your settings and somewhere on your homescreens. That completely negates the entire point of gadget trak/security. Maybe I'm missing something, and the instructions were not thorough, but if I stole an ipod touchone and saw the icon for gadgetrak, i'd just go into the settings and change the URL. Tadaa, no more problem! There has got to be a way to hide the icon or settings with a password! Or else this app is basically useless. - GadgetTrak review by time4mrcy
Its still in the works   As gadget trak said this is a teaser for what tocome. - GadgetTrak review by Wizkid49
very niase   alot of people that write reviews about this keep saying "oh well there must be some stupid theives" or whatever, but everybody i know that has an iphone or ipodtouch or mac book or whatever they have gadgettrak on most of them have a key code so its pretty much useless to them eitherway. all in all its a good app very helpful i did leave my ipod at the library the other day and iwas able to use this app to recover my ipod from my computer making the app very helpful and good, i have not one bad thing about this app to say. - GadgetTrak review by izzy_remix

And you came through! Nice!   Thank you very much!I've been waiting for this app to come to the iPhone.I knew about your service a long time ago after I lost a macbook in asia. And you came through! The first GPS tracking app that runs in the background?Nice!Thank You - GadgetTrak review by willeyeam
Follow Instructions & Read   Westicless, you do not need to buy the PC/Mac software it is a differnt product for those devices, I learned by reading the website and the installation instructions. The iPhone application is free, I downloaded and installed it with no issues, but you need to follow the instructions. It looks like most of the bad reviews are from illiterate kids who cannot follow the instructions, read the installation guide. I also had a question about the product and contacted their support and they responded in a timely fashion, so you may want to contact them if you have questions. The bad thing about these free apps is that anyone can download and anyone can write a review, even if they have no clue. - GadgetTrak review by Rodrigo_LePaz
Good idea, but limited by iPhone itself   I have developed a few iPhone apps and I think the idea behind this app is great! iPhone theft is going to become a bigger problem. The comments regarding location being off are valid, however this is probably due to the person being indoors, the iPhone 3G GPS only works outside when it can get a signal, otherwise it uses wi-fi network or cell tower information, so that is why it may show it a few blocks off. The iPod Touch and older iPhones without GPS are going to be slightly off just because of this as well.I would like to see this as a background type process, but it is not available to developers, but it is coming I am sure. I see a lot of other uses for the application however, the idea that you can hit a button and have your current location be logged to your account can be very useful. I hope to see some additional features for this app in a later release. I have it installed correctly as I followed the instructions, most of the people who are giving this a one star appear to be folks who could not figure it out. It is different from other apps as there is a registration process to sync your device with the server, but it is pretty straightforward. - GadgetTrak review by StevieP4
Great idea   Just wish it could be a bit more stealthy, but I think the limitations are on the available SDK. But hey it is free, can't complain. Need to make it so you can send shock the thief. To the people who are complaining about the prompt for location permissions, this will only happen the first few times you run it, after that it will no longer appear. Again this is part of the SDK, there is no way for developers to get around this, but once you grant permission it should no longer appear when activated. Most of the bad reviews appear to be from people who did not install the software correctly or register their device correctly, I think that is why some people are giving it one star and the people who follow instructions and have it installed give it five stars. - GadgetTrak review by Lhu
