Croke™ brings the favorite table top game of skill and dexterity "Crokinole" to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
-- 1.2 Update submitted to address iOS4 rendering issue, scoring bug, and added iOS4 fast app switching --
Players compete to score the most points by shooting their discs into high scoring areas of play. Simply touch an active disc to position it, then touch the animating orb widget, pull the widget back, and release to shoot it (or try the alternate Stroke Shot slide method)!
Strategy is made interesting by requiring players to strike at least one opposing disc during each shot, to keep their shot discs in play. If no opposing discs are in play, players must land in the 15-point circle. At the end of each round, the player with the most points is awarded the difference and the next round begins!
The full version of Croke provides single player gameplay against the computer (including 3 difficulty levels), variable game settings, as well as two player support: play a friend on your phone, or match your skills against players from around the world!

Just Became a 5-star App! Thank You for the Update!   -- Update --I have changed my star rating from 3 to 5 because of the new Croke update. The game is fantastic now! Not only did the talented developers quickly added a feature I (and possibly others) suggested, they did it with design finesse. The spring-shot mecanism may not be true to the game, but in my opinion it makes Croke much more playable on an iPod. They even pre-solved the problem of knowing just how much power you are applying to the disc by including an subtley intuitive power meter that is visible to the side of your finger when touching the screen. The additional graphic effects are also incredibly welcome and add to the intuitive game play. The way the discs expand slightly before disappearing makes it much more apparent as to what just happened on the board. The "+20" for a center shot is just icing on the cake. Fantastic job!-- Original Review --I play Crokinole in the real world, so just having it available on my iPod is a treat and worth $2 to me. The graphics, physics, and smoothness of gameplay are better than you might expect from the app store screen shots. However, I am not really happy with the way that discs are shot. I personally find it very difficult to make any sort of meaningful shot, and most of my game results come down to luck. You shoot by 1) tap-dragging your disc to a location, 2) tap-dragging a blue dot linked to your disc in the direction of travel, and then you 3) slide your finger towards your disc at which point it shoots away. This works, but in no way mimics the accuracy that can be achieved in the real game of Crokinole. I was expecting, and would much more enjoy, a spring-loaded shot mechanism. In my version, you would 1) tap-drag your disc to shooting location, 2) tap-drag the blue dot by pulling it back like a pinball launcher, 3) lift your finger to launch your disc. This would not necessarily mimic the real game, but it would allow for accuracy that is otherwise ridiculously reduced in this gaming format. Perhaps you could offer both launching mechanisms in a future release!

Terrific Fun!   My son and I love to play this game. Crokinole is old game sort of like darts and shuffleboard but played on a table.
Croke seems to mimic the game quite well. Well done app!

One of the best   One of the best games. It is hard unless you use the "spring" style of shooting chips but the spring style takes all the fun out of flicking it with your finger. And aim is sacrificed if you flick it with your finger so we need a mix of the two. It has potential to be ultra realistic if just had perfected shooting where you set aim and flick for power. But as is still one of the best.
