birdJam Twitch is a clever and interactive puzzler that redefines how to visually learn to identify birds. You were thinking nerdy? How about obsessively fun and compulsively addictive!
The 660+ North American bird species are organized into 31 flocks for the East, West and all of North America.
Flocks are grouped by habitat such as forests and marshes, or families such as ducks, sparrows and warblers. Choose a flock and the pressure and pace builds as you challenge yourself with higher levels of difficulty.
Just shake your iPod Touch or iPhone to start a game. During play, squares turn over randomly to gradually reveal superb photographs that display subtle clues to the birds in their natural habitats. Select your answers using the buttons at the bottom of the screen.
Try to outsmart the game by simply guessing and you'll be slapped with penalty points. This game is about skill, not just speed. It is about how well you score!
When play ends, swipe through the photographs to see how well you did--or didn't--score. Think you're a bird ID hotshot? Let birdJam Twitch load your high score to our web server so you can see how you compare to other players. Can't stand the pressure? We'll coax you with birdJam prizes that we'll periodically award to high-scoring players. Nice bonus, huh?

Fun and efficient visual learning aid... Brought to app status by the same people who put together BirdJam, a software patch for the definitive Stokes bird call CD set that allows expert (and novice) birders to have both instant audio and visual identification in a field-usable pocket-sized iPod. Despite solid app birding competitition, this program (not an app) is still the definitive electronic audiovisual field guide for the iPhone.The Twitch app does not test audio recall for birdcalls, which is the sole reason I dropped one star from my rating. However, it is a superb memory and learning aid for visual identification of birds, which are divided into classes (eastern warblers, western waterfowl, and so on), randomized, and then presented in a Jeapordy-like self-competition to see how quickly one can correctly identify a bird photo that is revealed pixels at a time. Further incentives to play come in the form of shared scores, which are posted on-line and viewable from within the game, so players can compare how they match up with the real experts in birding.Kudos to the programmers for a well-designed fun learning tool.

Worth every penny and more Sharpen your bird ID skills and have too much fun doing it. I say too much, because it is addictive. This app was created with the same care and intelligence as birdjam. I especially like the groupings by habitat or family since it is a great way to review before you go in the field.

Excellent visual ID game Great way to learn how to visually ID birds. The photos are excellent and you can really amp up the challenge why selecting higher levels of play. I found myself playing again and again to see if I could do just a bit better.
