Great port   Really enjoying this port of nethack. For those of you having issues with the commands: press the abc button, and then press ? This will bring up the help menu from which you can access a list of commands and their respective hotkeys.

Nethack in the iPhone: waiting a long time for this!   It is still a bit rough, but most of the functionality is there. I can't figure out how to cast a spell without pulli g up the keyboard, and I wish there were a way to get the old ASCII graphics, but kudos to this first version!

Still some bugs   Can't zap wands in the upwards or downwards position, for example, aim the wand of digging down to fall to the next floor.

Nethack   I must of searched the app store a hundred times for this over the last six months and kept coming up with box man/soko. And I'm pumped someone has taken this challenge to bring it here.
It needs work though. who searches 20 times w one press of the button? Maybe 10 at a time would be better before moving down the wall a little. the apply button is buried. the touch to move is hard to get used to. maybe putting a dedicated buttons along the side of the screen (where your thumbs are anyways) would work.
those aside this is better than I expected by far.

Great effort   This is a great start! The game adds a graphical interface to the text based gameplay of NetHack. However, there is plenty of room for improvement. The game crashes frequently, and some features are hard to find in the mess of menus.
After a little more work updating/fixing this game, it will deserve a higher rating! Nice work!

Good port, some crashes   More # commands should be included in the quick list. Crashes about once per hour, this is game ruining. Needs a workaround like a hard save at stairs.

Excellent port   Quite possibly, one of the best apps in the store because of one small update.

Cool game! Very ret-er-oh!   Nice game! Although I don't know how to attack besides kicking, change equipment, eat or cast a spell. So please post on reviews how to do these things!

Controls   Like chronusdark said, it's a great app, but not having played anything like this since the early 90s, I'm not farmilliar with the controls. I managed to kick in a locked door, but as far as stairs or anything, there just isn't enough info to figure it out. Maybe a way to pull up info on controls, or even a link posted in the app description would be excellent. Great job btw, been a long time.

It's nethack! But the controls are awful.   Glad it's finally here, but even as a player that's still relatively familiar with the controls, this is next to impossible for me to play.

Waaay better   If you don't know you can change the command buttons on the bottom by touching and holding, also the command buttons are swipable (there is more there than there appears). You can now change tilesets in settings.app.
Good luck, and happy hacking.

A very good effort...   First off, I have nothing but praise for the act of porting nethack to the iPhone - over the past 20+ years, I've lost more time to it than any other computer game. It still remains one of my favorite time-Easters, especially now that I'm visually handicapped and don't play most games.
Having said that, I miss the ASCII display, I wish it was an option. It's a nice way to play, and I find myself using iSSH and connecting to my server to play in ASCII.
Still, it's a good effort at a difficult port, and I salute the developer and offer my gratitude for taking the time.

Getting there   This is so close to being playable. The last update definitely made progress, but the big thing here is speed of play. Too many levels of menus to navigate to get to even simple commands, and being forced to use the keyboard is pretty clunky. I am a huge fan of the gesture commands that the iPhone port of Rogue has implemented. Saves screen space and is much faster in terms of game play. The new bottom menu is nice but definitely doesn't cover enough, maybe a 2nd button to switch to an alternate menu, and better yet, why not let the user bind commands to the menu?
And there's still a little seemingly random crashing. Also old save game files from last version when the app is updated will cause it to bug out bad and require reinstall.
Overall this is almost there. You're the only nethack gig in the app store, make it count or I'll port it right myself!

Good practice for home   The movement contols are fine. The frequent crashes seem to be the only thing that is keeping me from winning (and water demons).
Customized action buttons would be very nice. Applying a lance is pretty time consuming. Thank you for spending your money though for me to get some experience for when I try on my home PC.
