A Great Game Recorder, But So Much More... I have been a long time user and fan of SmartGo for the PC. This version for the iTouch and iPhone is fantastic. Since installing it I have spent more time solving go problems in the past two days than I had spent in the past two months using my PC. It is so easy to pick up my iTouch and do a few problems or review a pro game when the urge strikes. I'll be recording my games with SmartGo touch at my next tournament, and I'll never again be at a loss for a way to fill a few minutes with go related study.

Great App, Room for Improvement The app does exactly what it advertises and it does it very well. It has a great interface for recording games and putting stones down, over 2k problems of gradiated difficulty, and over 6k pro games from 1800 to the modern day. Highly recommended if you play baduk, especially if you are competing in tournaments and want a game recorder.As with many things, there is room for improvement. There's no clear way to get your games off of it after recording them--I haven't seen an "email this game to me" button, for example. There also is no way to import a game, or get access to pro games that aren't in the record (and there are very few games from 2008 and many of the more recent games are big-name Japanese games), or add L&D problems. Overall I recommend the program highly, but I hope that we will see some of these issues addressed in future updates. In the meantime, I'm happy to have it on my iPhone.

Lots of potential (but buggy / crashy) I would be gentler with my rating if the developers had introduced the application with a lower price - 10 bucks seems like a lot to pay considering how often the app crashes (3 times during the thirty minutes I played with it, after a phone reboot). Also, when solving the Go problems, the statistics don't refresh correctly when you use the lower right arrows to move to the next problem. To be fair, there is also plenty to like in this first version. Good interface execution. Lots of problems. I'm about 14 kyu, so I can't appreciate the pro games. It would be nice if there was a way to download intermediate games. Perhaps from the teaching ladder archives? (Not sure about copyright constraints here. I would be happy if I could somehow load my own games without manually recording them.) Anyway, I hope the developers work out the technical kinks in a timely fashion. If so, the app will be worth $10 and I will review it again.

Great App GO programs in generel cost alot of money, although I would like to be able to play aggainst the AI, I think this game is well worth the $10. My favorite feature is the puzzles, As they are not only addictive but you learn patterns (A must for any GO player).

I am stunned. Thank you! What an app! The average go problem book for $10 is not pocket-sized and contains much, much, much less material. Having an archive of just about the entire kifus of my 3 favorite players alone (and 20+ years of pro games if you review 1 every day) is worth the ten bucks many times over. If you are serious about improving your game, this is your new best friend!! Anybody that gives this app 1-4 stars is not really being fair, the main complaint I see is "no computer opponent." So??? Most go players would rather not play a machine anyway, especially for 5 minutes at a time. Great job, guys!

Great learning tool, but why remove the ability to play against SmartGo I'm puzzled as to why the iPhone version lacks the ability to play against SmartGo. Its Windows version offers this feature. I certainly do not want another application just to play against the computer.Support for IGS will be welcome as well.

Room for Improvement This is a beautiful app that lives up to all that it says. It has so many pro games to watch and for a very decent price. Most Go programs, especially for the PC cost hundreds of dollars. This is a great value and a great app. However, I would have payed $10 more to have the option to play the computer, but I know that this is not SmartGo's idea. Also, it would be nice if all of the games you had already watched were marked. Anyway, great app, would recommend to all Go players.

Go buy it! This is a great app. Yes, it's $10, [edit to $13] which is a lot for most apps, but although I'm still wallowing in the kyu problems, it's already worth it. Whereas I never lug around a book and board, this app makes it possible to instantly work a few problems whenever I have some time to kill. If you play Go (at least at a beginner level) or have an interest in learning, get this app without question. Graded problems, a game recorder, and for the strong players, 6000+ pro games to study! I'm going to get three stones stronger just by having this in my pocket!Edit to add: Now that I've lived with it a while, and they've added the option to play the computer, I will have to say that this is the best money I've ever spent. At $20 this would be a steal. Don't think about it, just buy it. Strangely, the ability to record games seems to have been lost in this last update, but I'd imagine it's going to come back (hint, hint). Regardless, It's a solid five-star app, and I am truly grateful to have it.

Great app that performs as advertised This app does exactly what it purports to do: provide a readily available library of historic weiqi games and a bevy of great weiqi problems. I wish it was an IGS client as well, had a gnugo client, or at least provided a way to score saved games, but I bookmarked eidogo.com as my gnugo client, and also installed Stones for it's gameplay and scoring, so I suppose I can live with three icons on my home screen instead an all-in-one app. The price is spot on, IMHO. Support weiqi and this developer and buy this app!

A cut above SmartGo has been the eminent Go software for many years, and I'm thrilled to see that the iPhone/iTouch port has carried on that legacy. While there are other Go programs available, SmartGo is by far the best available today and the author is highly responsive and SmartGo has been continually updated over the years.

Solid Go app for problems, progame viewing, and practice play I have had the program since it was first offered and it has not grown old and the update only made it better. A well thoughtout program which makes good use of the Apple touchscreen. I have enjoyed the working at the problems . With 12,000+ pro games archived there is plenty to review and think about. If you are interested in thinking about go while away from the goban, this is a great option.

Cool App! Just as advertised, this allows you to record games, play out variations, and review sgfs. It also comes with thousands of pro games and Life & Death. I used to play Go on my Dell Axim, and accurate entry was impossible even with a stylus, on any board bigger than 13x13. So I was doubtful that the iPod touch screen would allow accurate entry (I have thick fingertips) but the magnifier and crosshairs allow error-free stone plunking. Well worth the price!

The Best Go Tool Since the PC I have been a fan of SmartGo for the PC for many years. Anyone can write a program that plays Go, but this program actually plays GOOD Go. The interface is very polished and a pleasure to use. The library of games and problems is incredibly extensive having been developed through great effort over the years. Wait for a free program if you want, but this is a case of getting what you pay for. Actually, not. $10 is a bargain and a fraction of the price for what serious Go players have been happy to pay for the PC version through the years, and we all sincerely appreciate the tens of thousands of hours that the author put into this program. Now finally I can study and play go with ultimate convenience.
