Balance is an app designed to help you keep track of the balances of all of your accounts. Intended to replace a paper-based checkbook register, Balance maintains a list of credits and debits to each of your accounts. When you enter a new transaction, Balance automatically recalculates that account’s balance. You can enter recurring transactions into Balance, and new occurrences will be entered into Balance automatically. Password protection is available to keep others from looking at your transactions. Balance also allows you to export your transactions to your computer. With Balance, you’ll always know how much money you have in each of your accounts so you can avoid overdraft fees.
Balance Pro is now available as an upgrade to Balance via In App Purchase. Balance Pro adds support for multiple accounts and recurring transactions. To upgrade to Balance Pro, tap on the gear icon in the lower-right corner of the screen to bring up the settings screen and then choose "Upgrade to Balance Pro." The upgrade takes place from inside the app and once complete the additional features will be unlocked; there's no additional app to download.

Lifesaving app! So I was looking on here for an app that was like a checkbook register. I recently ran into a big problem of over draft fees and needed to change that. So I couldn't find a free one, and was about to pay some money to get one of the other accounting like apps off here. Low and behold I come on tonight and look through all the free apps and find this. It works so well and will guarantee I never have another over draft fee. 1. Create an export function to a csv or xls file.
2. Password protect option on entry.
3. Allow multiple account with the ability to name the accounts.

helpful accounting app This is an excellent app to help you balance your checkbook. Not even Quicken Online (at $2.99 a month) can do this. It's very easy to add transcations (ie phone bill, lunch, etc) quickly and efficiently. I have a few suggestions for the next version: 1) Support for multiple accounts. Being able to keep track of, say, both your checking and savings account, with separate balances, would dramatically enhance this app's functionality. 2) Rapid entry for repeating transactions. Say you pay your Verizon bill every month. When you start to type Verizon, the app could suggest the same title you've used in the past, like "Verizon phone bill". 3) The ability to consolidate transactions. When you hit the "edit" button, it would be really cool if you could highlight multiple transactions, have the app add up the numbers, and ask you to name the new single, consolidated transaction. This would effectively give you a calculator built in to the app, and clean up your transactions at the same time. 4) Make the dollars and cents fields on the Amount page bigger--it's often hard to select the small field for cents. But maybe my thumb is just fat. Anyway, great job with this, and I look forward to the next version! - Balance review by mglezer

LOVE IT! This app is amazing! I downloaded it to keep up with how much I have I don't have a bank account, so the update made it way easier to keep up with! The updated logo is way better then the old (boring) logo. This is a great easy way to keep up with your money! Good app but... This is a good app but I need three things that it doesn't offer yet. I would like to see a password option so that anyone picking up my phone can't snoop on my account balance. Really great because it's simple I use this to keep track of what I'm spending during the day. When I get home, I input this information into my desktop where I can manipulate the information for use in budget planning, etc. Great program! And best of all, it's free. - Balance review by miken69
Needs some additions This is a great app but could use some updating. Some things that could be added are: 1) dates for each transaction added in a roller wheel fashion, 2) multiple accounts should be able to be created because the average person has at least a savings and checking account, and 3) instead of "credit/debit" buttons just put "deposit/withdraw."

Missing database for repeat check writings I have moved over from the Palm Treo to the ipHone. Best lifestyle move ever! I used a free checkbook app on the Palm platform that created a database of my current 'to' (or as Balance calls it..'name' check writing. So I would create a list (T-Mobile; the Utility company; the bank for the mortgage payment; the auto loan financer; the 3 different grocery stores that I use; then the list websites that deduct from my debit card tied to to my checking such as PayPal; gas stations by name; Amazon; EZPass; Vonage etc. The users get the picture! It's becoming tiring to type in these companies who I give money to every week or month. Please set up for Auto-fill at least!2) We need Transaction metadata such as the obvious ... the check number (New check number, next check #)! Other choices in this area that would be nice would be 'ePayment'; 'ATM withdrawal'; department store 'swiped''; transfer; (He/she only has the choice of 'Deposit' or 'Withdrawal').The addition of password protect is well-received! In addition; Balance adds a setting in the system pref setting to toggle between alphanumeric and just a 4 digit #. Nice! This is almost on the way to actually begin to charge a well-deserved $0.99 fo use! I would be the the first to pay after developer considers the top 5 mentioned suggestions from previous reviewers. Great App! This application has been very useful. Instead of worrying about how much I have in my account, I can check at any time. Thanks for the peace of mind! One thing I would like to see is the ability to add and name multiple accounts as well as a more Apple-like appearance. I'm glad to see this is coming in a future release. Great Little App Honestly, I didn't expect to use Balance nearly as much as I do now. I can honestly say it has saved me already from an overdraft. While certain transactions take a while to hit my account, it has become very helpful to just whip out my iPhone, tap Balance and make note of the debit. It didn't take long at all for Balance to hold my TRUE checking account balance way before WaMu seems to when I log in online. - Balance review by Zellybean

revision to my former 5 star review When I first downloaded this app, I thought it had to be too good to be true. Well, it was. The first time I had a problem with my phone and had to restore it I realized that none of my information had been backed up, so I lost all of my data. I would have paid for a version of this that actually worked... actually, I would have paid to have been warned to stay away from this app which has caused me so much trouble. If you have never lost a check register, it is very inconvenient. I recommend sticking with the old fashioned pen and paper type. - Balance review by ipinionated

Will be a perfect app once you can have multiple accounts This app looks like it is going to be fantastic once you can have multiple accounts. I will keep it on my phone for a while with hopes that an update comes out within a few weeks. Exactly What I Expected Very simple and pretty easy to use. For free it's great. I wasted my money on iXpenseIt because I though it would keep track on my balance but it is only for business expenses. I'm a poor college student so it makes it hard to waste money on apps without being able to refund from Apple. Free works.Good idea's to make this app way cooler would be:- Adding pictures for receipts- A quicker keypad for entering amounts- Some neat graphics instead of plain white- Something to tell the difference between amounts pending - Automatic date and time - Balance review by mechanisma22
Perfect for me! I balance my checking acct by Excel spreadsheet. I keep my inbetween purchases on the app. No more searching for receipts at the bottom of my purse. - Balance review by 40young
Very nice! This little app makes a paper check register obsolete. It works very well, and I am quite pleased with it. However...it would be really cool if you could set recurring withdrawals or recurring deposits. I always forget, for instance, that a certain amount will be automatically transferred to my savings account on a certain day. It would also be really cool to have more than one account you could track, as others have suggested. And would it be too much to ask to have the note visible on the transactions page? I dont like that i have to actually remember which transaction has notes I need to be aware of. For instance, if I have accounted for a check that I have not yet written but know needs to be accounted for before I spend more than I should, I write a note that says "not yet sent". But then I have to actually remember which check that was, since i cant see it on the transaction page. one extra line, or even an asterisk or some other symbol that would indicate a note has been made for that entry would be nice. - Balance review by dhayman
