(* When redesigning CheckPlease for 3.0, I looked at all of the other tip calculators on the AppStore. Each had features I liked, and each had features I disliked I took combined features from several of them. BigTipper (keypad), TipTap (side-by-side scrollers), and Tip (Exact/Round selector and layout, but there's only so many ways to fit a keypad and side-by-side scroller on the screen).
CheckPlease™ has been calculating tips for users since 1995 starting with the Newton OS, migrated to the Palm OS, and now the iPhone OS.

CheckPlease is calculating the tip correctly and does not tip on tax if you have a tax rate set. The most common error users have is they have rounding turned on, or they have a tax rate set.

Try "Tip" by Carlos Perez instead. To say that this application takes its inspiration from Carlos Perez's "Tip" application, would be putting things quite euphemistically. I'm not usually a person that gets into the fray of one applications design over another, but in this case, it is quite galling to think that a developer would redesign his application to look (and to attempt to function) just like another developer's app. I'm pretty sure that most folks won't care or will not know what has happened here, so I will say this: Before buying "Tip" I tried out "CheckPlease" first, and found countless mathematical errors in it. At first I thought it was just me, so did the computations (simple stuff) over and over again, but each time I would find that "CheckPlease" would get the math (this is especially true when "Rounding") wrong. While it's a bit disconcerting, I suppose one shouldn't expect anything else from CheckPlease.Update: I just checked again, and the calculation (and Rounding) errors are still there. They aren't difficult to find if you take the time to look.

Finally, BUT... With the dozens of tip calculators out there that were all missing pieces, you finally put it all together. Well done. BUT, what I'd like to see is when the tip is changed from exact to something else, that the recalculated tip percentage is displayed, e.g. I may want to round up the tip but I won't if it means the tip percentage goes to 30%. So, when any changes are made from exact calculations, spin the tip percentage wheel to the new tip percentage (and rounded whole numbers are good enough). I would like to see the fraud protection feature too but I can live without that.

Blatent Rip off of Carlos Perez's Tip Program This is a blatent rip off of Carlos Perez's "Tip" program. The Tip program came out well before CheckPlease did.1) Way to steal someone else's idea THEY worked hard for and then brand the application as "free."2) From reading other reviews, it appears CheckPlease is extremely buggy.Do yourself a favor and don't support a developer who steals other people's hard work. 3.0 version has great interface There are so many tip calculators for the iPhone, but I was unimpressed with most of them. Most have an interface that is a bit too complex - after all, all one is doing is calculating 15 or 20 % and occasionally dividing between a few people. This is not hard math - so to take the trouble to take out your iPhone, unlock it, launch an app, and then enter the data is not clearly an advantage unless it is quick. So the key is having a very quick way to enter the data and getting results without multiple screens and pop-up dials, calculators, etc.. The only iPhone tip calculator that correctly deterines tips (before sales tax) I've always understood that when calculating a tip, the tip amount should be based on the the subtotal (the amount after removing tax). Of the iPhone tip apps that I've examined, this is the only own that does this. I'd like to see some improvements, but overall I like this app, and it's free. I'd like to see improved sensitivity of the sliders and I think that the sales tax amount should be displayed with two decimal places instead of one. Where I live, the sales tax amount is 7.45%, but it is displayed as 7.5% (although the correct tax amount is actually calculated). Love this app I was taught that one does not include the sales tax when calculating a tip. This is the only one I have found so far that allows one to exclude the tax from the calculation. I just wish that their preview would mention this feature. I have looked at all of the tip calculators and none touts this feature.
