The Tabla is a percussion instrument widely used in Indian Classical music both as a solo instrument and as an accompaniment to vocal or instrumental music. When played as a solo instrument, the tabla is accompanied (usually on the harmonium or sarangi) by a continuous cyclical musical phrase or riff called the "Lehra" or "Nagma" (ostinato in western music) that keeps track of the "aavartan" or rythmic cycle in the chosen "taal".
iLehra is the first electronic Lehra / Nagma player for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It provides accurate as well as pleasing lehra accompaniment for a wide variety of taals and raags on either the harmonium or the violin. Its also features a clear visual indication of the current "matra" (place in the rythmic cycle), along with a beautiful tanpura tuned exactly to the same pitch of the lehra and to the notes of the raag.

Just what the Doctor ordered! Simple & pretty interface, good natural sound, with a good mix of traditional as well as some new lehras I hadn't heard before. Both the harmonium & violin sound pretty good to me. Just what I needed to inspire me to put in some good practice hours!

Tons of potential!! This lehra app is an excellent portable travel companion with tons of potential. It may seem a bit expensive but considering the alternatives and with updates on the way it promises to be worth every penny. I sent a message to the developer with a few suggestions to which he responded very quickly. He definitely seems to care about his products and I believe that the next update will only further show his dedication to these apps and those who support them. Keep up the good work Prasad!

iLehra rocks I love iLehra. The violin and harmonium are very pleasing. The app is easy to use. Sure beats using taal pulse on my laptop. The cheapo in me was hesitent due to the price, since I have free software on my laptop. However, the convenience and quality are worth it -- esp while it's on sale!

Great concept, EXCELLENT execution iTanpura was awesome so I just had to try iLehra. And I LOVE IT - has all the taals I usually need with a good selection of lehra, super-intuitive to use and it sounds great! Can't beat the price either, way cheaper than buying the lehra machines. Love the intuitive single slider used to control the tempo - no more having to first pick a tempo range. It automatically changes from vilambit (slow) to madhya (medium) or drut (fast) based on the tempo. And to the reviewer wanting more precise speed control, you actually get very precise tempo control by clicking on the slider endpoints. Every click moves the tempo by 1 bpm. Well done!

My Favorite App This is an exciting day for me as I have literally been wanting an app like this since day one! Nothing makes for a good focused practice like the use of a lehra. The first time I tried this app out, I ended up practicing for over an hour without even realizing it. iLehra is well thought out yet simple. As much as I love my nagma machine and its Donkey Kong like tone, iLehra has a great sounding harmonium tone. I haven't really tried out the violin option yet. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up!

A tap tempo function I think would be nice. The tanpura sounds great, and the instruments are not too shabby , but if u can make them sound warmer and richer that woul be great !!

Totally worth it This is a very useful application for me as a Tabla student. It is equally good for use in both practice and concert. I simply love the sound of the harmonium and the flute.
This application especially helps me visualize the timeline of the fractional taals as the lehra proceeds with it's display of the beat count in progress.The GUI is very simple, intuitive and sophisticated.
I love the sound of the tanpura in the background. It sounds very genuine. I like how it auto-adjusts itself to the raga of the lehra being played.
With so many taals and multiple lehras per taal, this is really worth the buy. Personally, I highly recommend it to all tabla students.

#1 app for tablas Normal lehras are so costly! They can range $150-$250, at $14.99 this is a steal! Thank you Prasad for your genius work and thank you for making the lives of many tabla and flute players so much easier. You truly have given us all a gift of immense proportion. My practice is so much more interesting now :) P.S. the addition of the flute and all the taals is absoutely fantastic! Was very pleased to see the new update :)

Awesome v2 Great upgrade. v1 was decent, but magically you fixed 90% of my complaints in v2! Two suggestions:1) Add a UI to double or halve the tempo2) Increase tempo range (at least up to 600) and put the slider on a non-linear scale so I have more control at slower speed, but can move around higher speeds more quickly.
