Great performance!   Used it while on vacation in south Florida. Excellent re-routing when you miss a turn as long as you maintain a decent GPS signal. Also great search. Found a bunch of cool tourist stops and restaurants, and saved them for my next trip. Will be purchasing voice guidance after the 30 day trial is over. Great; very happy with the purchase!

Outstanding at a reasonable price   This is an outstanding start and if my experience with Fullpower's other MotionX app is any indication, it will only get better. That said, it's important you understand how a program that costs $2.99 can compete with the other GPS navigation programs that cost $90 or $100. The short answer is: It can't. Yes it's only $2.99 to get the program but that doesn't give you most of the "advanced" GPS Navigation features you might be expecting. For that you'll need to pay a little more. For $2.99 you get what I would describe as an improved version of the directions provided by the Goggle Maps app that comes standard with the iPhone. It provides turn-by-turn directions similar to the way the Google Maps app does (i.e., you can advance from one turn to the next by manually by pressing a "next turn" button or follow the route by having it keep your current location centered on the map). GPS Drive gives you more information than Google Maps, like current heading, ETA, distance & time remaining. It also has other enhancements over Google Maps like the option to display a "course up" map which always orients the map in the direction you're going - something I always wished Google Maps had - and iPod integration. And the search feature is terrific. So what about the advanced GPS features? They're there, but you don't get them for free. Well, you do for the first 30 days, but after that it will cost you (currently $3/month or $25/year). When you pay the additional fee, then GPS Drive becomes more of a full-featured GPS, complete with features like audio prompts, 3D maps, auto re-routing if you miss a turn, and the ability to take traffic conditions into account when calculating a route (something I haven't tested yet).Basically Fullpower seems to have chosen a different model: Instead of making you pay up-front for the advanced features by charging $100 for the app, they simply charge you incrementally. From what I gather from their FAQ, they pay for the advanced navigation technology and must (naturally enough) pass that cost along. For $25 a year, it seems pretty reasonable to me, and the 30-day trial that comes with the $2.99 app purchase should give you enough time to try it out and see if you like it.Likes: Even in "basic" navigation mode, having a "course up" map is a welcome change over Google Maps. The search feature is terrific, especially since it's all "live," and allows you to search for stuff "near me," "on route," or "at destination" (or, of course, "everywhere").Issues: After using it for less than a day, the only "bug" I've noticed is the iPod integration went haywire when I was trying to select a playlist from within GPS Drive (it worked fine if I started a playlist before launching GPS Drive.)Enhancements I'd like to see in future releases include: landscape mode, an option to cut down on the number of audio prompts, full screen mode, and more ability to customize the displayed data. I may find others after I've had a chance to use it more, but Fullpower has a great history of regular enhancements and updates, so I expect the program will only get better.

THE APP OF MY DREAMS!!!   I've used Magellon, TomTom, Garmond dashboard nav systems in the past... but lately when I travel it's just easier to use my iPhone. Only thing... I wanted voice directions! Was on a business trip recently & carpooled with a friend whose service provider had the voice direction thing, but it was so annoying we turned it off. MotionX is the answer to my prayers!! Love the features/options it offers, the maps and graphics are easy to read and follow - and the voice directions ROCK!! They not only get you there without staring at the phone... but I could listen to that voice all day. A couple of times on the road I've had to! Don't know how they're doing it for $2.99. Amazing. I'm in the free (for a month - woohoo!) voice directions test phase, but I'll be signing up for that continuing service with a smile on my face. Thank you, thank you MotionX!!!

!!! Read Before Buying !!!   For those of you out there thinking this $3 app will replace TomTom or Navigon; you may wish to reconsider. First off; lets get a few things out of the way....the way the developers talk the app up is a bit shady. For one thing, if you want it to act as a traditional turn by turn navigation device, you'll have to pay some form of subscription. I haven't activated my "30 days free" and won't because I'll test it when I actually need it for thanks giving next month. As for now, I've been using it in the "free" mode. The good thing here is that the MotionX offeres a relatively cheap solution. $3/month or $25/year offers a decent value when compaired to the higher up-front costs of other solutions. If I wanted to; I could just pay $3 for each of the months I might require a turn-by-turn device. Its a flexible subscription. Unfortunately, like many people; I prefer a one-time-for-life-fees. Secondly and probably the most important part of a road GPS: ROUTE RECALCULATIONS!!! Route Recalculations are the very most important part of a car based GPS. I miss exits all the time....sometimes by accident, other times because I want to see whats down some country road or inspect a road side attraction (Farm, lake, whatever...I love to explore).....whatever the case may be: MotionX doesn't seem interested in getting me to my destination if I take a detour. It offers a solution from where you are to where you want to go....if you mess up...tough nuggets, you have to tap through like 5 screens to recalculate. Pain in the butt while driving; not to mention dangerous. Thirdly; the app uses the internet heavily. Not bad in the metropolitian town I live in....but I fear when I visit rural areas where I won't have any bars; that I won't have any visuals OR be able to recalculate a route. This completely voids the purpose of the GPS system...subscription OR NOT!Now...what you do get for $3: This app is basically like "Maps" that comes built in....except it uses Bing rather than Google; and for that I don't feel entirely ripped off. Bing is more accurate in some instances in my state than Google is. It offers a highlighted route, and shows where you are on the route. Stray and the route doesn't update...just like "Maps". Some people say that the search integration is better....I guess; "Maps" is a little more clunkly but I prefer the spatial visualization of the push-pins. So its a win-some/loose-some; search interface is only 5-15% of a GPS in my opinon. This thing doesn't recalculate and that kills 80% of the reason of having a car-based navigation system. On the one hand, its always calculating routes based on the latest info in their databases. But the loose-some is that should you need to recalculate a route where there's no internet; you'll be S.O.L. The win-some is that it's $3...and at $25/year would take 4 years before it's more expensive than the TomTom app. The loose-some is that as a car-based GPS, its lacking the built-in maps, the ability to recalculate in the boonies, and a decent interface (speed, overall distance, LANDSCAPE mode, night mode, and so on). If you want a Bing version of "Maps" it might be worth your $3. If you want a dirt-cheap TomTom that MIGHT get you home....its' worth the $28 for this year. Otherwise I'd say just buy an older TomTom, Mio, Garmen, Magellian, etc on ebay for like $40.

Open Day Buyer!!!   This is a great app for budget mind users. The graphic are great. I can't wait for landscape mode. The main draw back is for multiple iphone users on same iTunes account. The $25 dollar is per LINE per YEAR. So if you have 4 people on your account, That's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS (Tom Tom and Navigon price)! And if you lose your cell signal then you will lose your Live Voice Guidance. Luckly, I will only be paying $50 (wife and I). I'm a MotionX user, so getting the DRIVE was a no bainer. Just wish the $25 was per account than per iphone.

Amazing price for an amazing app   $2.99 for a turn by turn nav app...insane! Glad I didn't bite on any of the other spendier app.I figured for $3 bucks I might just as well try it and it worked suprisingly well. I don't have any thing to compare it to but the interface is very nice and similar in a lot of ways to MotionX GPS so if you use that app you'll be right at home. The directions seem very accurate, at least in my area. The only con I can come up with is that it uses Microsoft maps which in my area are outdated. The roads are all there but our county changed most of the names a couple years ago and Microsoft hasn't updated them. You do have to buy Voice directions separately through the app if you want to use them for longer than the included 30 demo. They're only $2.99 a month or $25 per year so it's still substantially cheaper than most of the other turn by turn apps, at least for a year or two.Good stuff!

very nice app, tradeoffs vs TomTom   Hmm... not sure I notice any bugs fixed?UPDATE 10/3/09 -- Used GPS Drive today in a long day of driving around an unfamiliar town (Tucson AZ), and it worked great! Some new comments:GREAT -- driving into the mountains, we lost AT&T, but GPS Drive had CACHED the entire route so we still could see where we were, how much left to drive, etc. That was a VERY pleasant surprise!SLIGHTLY BROKEN -- searching for food etc "on my route" doesn't just search forwards on the route, but it searches backward too, and sorts based on distance from my location. Sorry, but I DO NOT want to backtrack!!ALSO, I REALLY WANT a way to program in favorites, and then check out the route between two of them in advance -- but right now it seems I can only go to a destination from my current location. Not very helpful when I'm sitting at home plugging in my destination airport, hotel, and some sights that I want to see.OTHER THINGS I STILL WANT -- landscape mode, plus a "night" mode with a blue color scheme instead of "daylight bright"OVERALL, though, this is a great app, and it's only version 1.1, and from what we've seen of the Motion-X folks so far, I know there will be regular updates, they listen to their customers, and this app is going to improve so fast it's going to leave all the others far behind!------OLDER REVIEW: In a brief test drive, my first reaction is very very positive. GPS Drive has a GUI familiar to those using other MotionX GPS apps, possibly less intuitive to others who aren't used to buttons that "depress" etc, but you adapt to it pretty quickly.Maps, directions (?), and points of interest (?) are via Bing, so should be very up-to-date, though you're limited to areas where you receive cell service. Without buying the in-app Voice Directions, you can get turn-by-turn directions. If you add Voice Directions, you get those as well as 3-D maps (perhaps this package should be relabeled to "3D Maps & Voice Directions", as it took a while for me to realize why I couldn't find the promised 3-D maps). The map interface is very clean, with a very readable 3D map (or optional 2D map). At the top right, it cycles between direction, miles to destination, time to destination, and estimated time you'll reach the destination). Switching to the compass mode gives additional info, including your current postion and altitude. When you approach a turn, a small "thermometer" shows your progress toward that turn. The one downside is that the automatic re-calcualtion is very poor. It's there, but if you make a turn and continue in the same general direction, you may go for miles before it realizes you've deviated from your course. In my case, that was only when I stopped at a stop sign. In the real world, you could easily get lost this way! Though to be fair, as long as you stay on the route, it's great -- it's just noticing that you left the route that it's poor at.There's also no recognition of lanes, so I'm guessing that if I were on a divided highway, it may tell me to turn left when that's not posible, instead of telling me to continue to the light and make a U-turn. That's just a guess though; I haven't tried it on a divided highway with traffic lights. The GPS-like interface to choose a destination is truly excellent. Choices include your address book, emergengy (hospitals etc.), and a Bing search for points of interest including gas, food, shopping, parking, etc. Or you can "browse" and get additional categories. And of course, there's "home", recent destinations, favorites, and even most frequent destinations. This part of the app really shines! So what does it have, and what doesn't it have? It has very up-to-date (at least as far as Bing knows) maps and points of interest, and takes advantage of that. It does get those maps / POIs "live", so if you're out a cell range, you probably lose. The app is cheap, but you pay to activate the 3D maps and voice directions. It does not have any knowledge of lanes. There seems to a basic tradefoff with TomTom. TomTom works even when you're out of cell range, but presumably they are going to charge for updates to the maps and POIs (see the current note about buying now and getting the next update free) much like they've done before. In summary, GPS Drive relys on cell service, and charges for some needed functionality, but the maps & POIs are always up-to-date; TomTom does not rely on cell services, but will (presumably) charge occasionally for updates to the maps & POIs and until you buy that update you'll be out of date. GPS Drive has voice directions, but TomTom does not. GPS Drive has VERY poor route recalculation. Neither has knowledge of lanes. For now, I'm very happy with GPS Drive for $2.99 + $24.99. I'll (probably) buy TomTom when the car kit comes out, but not until.

This app is great!!!   I like Motion X GPS so I got this the first day it dropped and I have been very happy since. I've used it all day today and haven't put it down yet. There are not really any downsides I see and the ease of use is great. Even though they do charge for the voice nav that is something that is very affordable and would take 4 years of paying for it to equal the Tom-Tom or Navigon Price!!! What a great App! I recommend this to everyone!

Best bang for your buck   Wow, Im so glad I waited a couple of weeks to finally download a GPS app! I had no idea that I was going to run into the best app I ever download. In fact I don't remember the last time I spent a better 3 bucks. As the saying goes "you get what you pay for." Not with this app however, you get a legit working turn by turn accurate GPS. When I had my HTC, I had Telenav GPS which I was very pleased with but had to pay an extra $10 a month to use it and was much slower then this GPS. Thank you MotionX for makeing such an award winning app at such a great price!!!

Soooooo Happy   I have been using TomTom for about six weeks and have been disapointed. Many times I just wander off the road into the weeds. Other times it just says no GPS signal while Google/iphone maps locate immediately. Would it be too harsh to think TomTom decreases the signal so they can stick you with another 100 bucks for their dock? Well all of that is old news, well except for the $100 bucks I am out. I will never give TomTom another dollar. But WOW I love MotionX GPS Drive. It finds a signal as well as my Garmin stand alone. No wandering off the road or false messages about not finding a signal. The interface is wonderful and does not get confused by addresses in my contacts. The same address TomTom can not use, X has no problem with. I use the other X product for my bike and love it. There are FREQUENT updates with meaningful new function and GREAT customer support. I am expecting to see the same on X drive. I keep wondering what TomTom did to forget the winning product approach. I guess in any revolution, and the iphone is a revolutionary product, old succesful companies lose their way and new more responsive ones fill the void. Having worked for IBM for 40 years i saw how they lost the path(and later refound it). New products are released, not to be the best world class products, but rather to protect the old milk cows and sqeeze the revenue stream for a few more dollars. Customers feel this but sometimes have no other choice. Then along comes a MotionX who wants to be the best in the world and blows everyone away with their energy. Can a TomTom save themselves? IBM did, but only by reinventing themselves not by marketing hype or product protection moves. I sat in pricing meeting at IBM that made me sick and I bet there are a few developers and good management types at TomTom with a case of h1n1. In any case thanks for a great product, MotionX is a winner. I am betting on great things from this company and if they go public worthy of an investment.

What an iPhone GPS app should be   This is the GPS app that you'll want to show off... and use. Based on Bing maps and data (points of interest), what you get is what you should get on the iPhone - continually updated maps and POI, plus the POI covers everything, not just a selection of popular coffee shops and such - you can search for and find anything, then navigate to it.
It caches your route to cover blind spots, although if you have no data connection you can't make a new route, and that is an issue. Nonetheless, this is the one you'll want to use day-to-day because it is live data-based. It does need text-to-speech and lane assist, but hopefully they'll come in updates and it works great as-is. GPS signal has not been an issue for me so far, but it should work with the TomTom mount/receiver if need be. I'm sticking with my Kensington dash/windshield mount for now at least. It's loaded with nice features including iPod controls that even let you make a playlist. It's a must-buy for every iPhone user and it's cheap - $24.99 for a year of voice navigation 3D map service or $2.99 for 30 days if you want to only pay when needed (30 days are included in the app price). Great idea!

Amazing app! MotionX does it again!   I have been a loyal motionx gps user for the last few months on bike rides so when I saw this app I got realy excited. It's so great that I just listed my Navigon 5100 on ebay. There are tons of features on this app and considering the price it's a no-brainer! I mounted my iphone using an inexpensive air-vent holder so my dashboard and windshield are free of clutter. I hope in future updates they add features like....- Night driving mode...bright screens at night aren't too fun- Being able to swipe from screen to screen. The only CON is that the buttons are small on the bottom of the screen so driving and navigating the software is very difficult. A swipe of the finger wold make it 10x better and SAFER!

Another Home Run   I sprung for the $89 Navigon app (I'm not sorry I did, it's a terrific app) but the Motion X Drive comes pretty close, and it costs less than a Latte at Starbucks. I would like to see a landscape mode, and street names given with turn directions. My experience with the original Motion X leads me to believe that these upgrades are not far behind. This company really supports their products and continues to improve them.

Finally a great priced, excellent navigation app!   Like many others, I was looking for an inexpensive navigation app for my 3GS. I purchased the Navcat app and have used it a few times. While it was only $5.99, it barely functioned and left me contemplating dropping the big money on TomTom or Navigon. But before I spent that I took one more look in the App store and found this! I am glad I did!
This app is inexpensive but crammed full of goodness! The look and layout is beautiful and it has more features and functionality than my car GPS! iPod controls, fast search, fast GPS location, digital compass, Accurate POI's, I could go on but you can read it for yourself.
I like the fact that the developers have opted to make the app itself inexpensive and give you the option of paying ($2.99 for 30 days or $29.99 a year) for spoken directions (after the first 30 days of free voice directions). The "silent" app itself is awesome by itself and will serve my purposes 9 times out of 10, but it's cool that if I'm on a trip and desire spoken directions I can pay just three bucks directly from my phone.
The developers note in the app that the data they use is not free (lol it's Microsoft Bing so of course it's not free) , I understand that and applaud them for giving us the option, rather than charging us $89.00 or $99.00.
Also this app does not store maps on your iPhone, so there is very little memory usage.
I have already moved this app to my firstpage homescreen and from the looks of it, it will be staying put!

TRIPLE A+ app! Don't waste your $ on the $50-$100 nav apps!   This app is truly amazing for the price! Extremely accurate. Very well thought out user interface. For those of you complaining about $25 per year for voice guidance, STOP! Stand alone GPS systems are typically $100+ per year for map updates.I own Co-Pilot+ and Navigon as well and besides spoken street names, this app blows both of them out of the water for a fraction of the price.Just a couple suggestions for improvement:1. Spoken Street Names2. Landscape Mode3. Night Time ModeFullpower has kept their other GPS apps continuously updated, so I imagine this one will be as well.Way to go on a truly outstanding application!
