Name Picker - Triple Creeks Studio
Name Picker is a handy tool specially designed for new parents, as well as writers looking for inspiration when naming their characters. You can find the perfect name for your new baby; build a list of your favorite names or simply learn the meaning and origin of a name. All this is accomplished through an easy to navigate interface, backed by a database of more than 1,700 commonly used names in Western languages.
On the Names screen, you can click on the alphabet on the right hand side to display all names starting with a particular letter. A Name window will appear when any name is selected. The window contains detailed info about the name, such as origin, gender and meaning. You can select the name for your favorites list with the click of a button. A random name picker button is also available on the main screen.
The Favorites screen is a list of all the names you’ve selected from the Names screen. It helps you track your selections and pick the name for your baby. The names on your list are ranked according to the order of your selection. You can remove names from the list or re-arrange the ranks by clicking the Edit button. You can also send your list via email by clicking the Email List button.

Great This is really a great app. Though I'd like to see the option to make separate favorites lists and to be able to add your own names. Other than that this app is great. The only one I've found that let's you browse names.

Buy this one! This app is the only one worth the money among all baby names app in app store, seriously. I tried several apps. Only this one lists names for you to browse. Others ask me to input a name to search -- that is a weird design. I pay to get inspirations of names. How come other developers assume I know the name already? What’s more, those apps claim to have tens of thousands names, but I found most of the origins and meanings are empty, and with many typos. That is ridiculous -- those developers actually charged me more for more errors! This app is simple and neat. Though it has fewer name suggestions, I didn’t find any empty fields. And it’s priced much more reasonable than others. If you are considering a baby name app, get this one!

Great App. Don't Listen To The Ignorant! This app does what it says it does and it works great. I'm a writer and sometimes it's difficult to think of appropriate names for my characters. Also, sometimes I just need my memory jarred, so I can see myself pulling my iPhone out when I'm stuck trying to come up with a name. It's amazing how many idiots are compelled to give an app a one star review based on either not owning the app, not knowing how to work their $300 phone or just not using their - and I use this term loosely - BRAIN!Most people understand the following:A) We all know we can access the Internet to find names and many other thingsB) We know that the iPhone has both Wifi and cell phone connectivityC) We all know that sometimes internet connection, servers, web sites, etc. can fail when we need to access them mostD) We like the convenience of something on our phone so the issues stated in "Article C" above are not a factorE) We understand that these developers take time to create these apps and they deserve to charge for themF) We aren't cheap b***ards and we feel that spending the buck is worth it and it's our d*** money.G) If you don't see the value, just don't buy it. Best value baby names app so far We are expecting a baby boy in March. But when it comes to choosing the name for him, everybody offered suggestions it was almost overwhelming. Name picker is simple yet very useful. I can look up names and see the origin and meanings – a name says a lot about a person’s background and his parents’ aspirations for him. The list function is also very helpful, because there are so many good names that I have to go through several rounds of screening. Neutral I just purchased this application because one of my good friend's is pregnant and in the middle of picking baby names. From her point of view, I would not like this application as much. There are limited names where the other application I bought has something like 10x as many! Also there are only western names available, maybe that isn't a problem to some, but there are some incredibly beautiful names out there that aren't American and it would be nice to have this option. Especially for those of us that are celebrity crazy and see all of these celebrities out their naming their children unique/interesting names :-) You also can't re-order your favorites list, which is a nice feature that I got use to in the other application. If you like a name better than another then you might want to move it up the list of favorites (or if your husband likes it and you don't...you can move it down! ha!)As someone who is not pregnant myself and only using it to help out a friend this app works fine for me. Its cheaply priced, easy to use and gets the job done. I also like the M/F sex icon next to the names, it makes it cute and easy to read. The main drawback for me is that I can't email the names (or a list of names) to her that I like which I can do in the other application I bought of this type (Baby Names), which is somewhat essential since I'm using this for her. Good useful app - works as described This being the second time if had to type this review, I'll keep it brief. My newly pregnan wife has asked me to pick out ten baby names, five of each gender. This program helped me get what I needed.
This only reason I didn't give it a fifth star was the hard-to-read definition font.
To all those who pay for a perfectly useful application and then complain by giving it a single star and a "useless app" review ... well, HA!

Great for Writers The app does exactly what it says, and I've already started using it for my writing projects. However, I do have a few suggestions that would make it 5 stars:- I really wish that the application had a search feature, preferably with options to search based on name, origin, meaning, etc.- It would be nice if the names had a pronunciation guide. Obviously, most of them don't need it, but some leave you tilting your head and wondering how you're supposed to say the name.- It seems like a trifling thing, but I hate it when a name's meaning says "variant of _____" - and then you have to go look up that name to find out the meaning. It would be great if such names had a link back to the base form. Also, there are a few I've found that say "variant of _____", with the name it directs you to not included in the application.
