RadarScope - Base Velocity, LLC
RadarScope is a specialized display utility for weather enthusiasts and meteorologists that allows you view NEXRAD Level 3 radar data along with our most requested new feature, Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, and Flash Flood Warnings issued by the National Weather Service. It can display the latest reflectivity, velocity, and other products from any NEXRAD radar site in the United States, Guam and Puerto Rico. These aren't smoothed PNG or GIF images, this is real Level 3 radar data rendered in its original radial format for a high level of detail.
This version *now includes* support for Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam!
Whether you are scanning reflectivity for a mesocyclone's tell-tale hook echo, trying to pinpoint the landfall of a hurricane's eye wall, or looking for small features like velocity couplets in the storm relative radial velocity product, only RadarScope gives you the power to view true radial NEXRAD weather radar on your iPhone or iPod touch.
When there are any Tornado Warnings (outlined in RED), Severe Thunderstorm Warnings (YELLOW polygons), or Flash Flood Warnings (GREEN polygons) in effect throughout the US, tap the warning button in the top right corner to browse the list of current warnings, view the details, and even zoom to the selected warning on the map.
Pinch or stretch to zoom in and out. Drag your finger around the map to scroll. Tap the radar sweep button in the toolbar to switch radars. Select one of the 155 different radar sites, with the rotating radar beam representing each radar's approximate coverage area. Plot your current location by tapping the location button and optionally report it to the Spotter Network. Tap the play button to download and animate over the last six images. Display the names of over 25,000 cities and towns on the map as you zoom and scroll. Tap and hold the color legend to see the data values.
Meanwhile, RadarScope will retrieve and display updated data automatically and intelligently (approximately every 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the radar scan strategy).
You can display data from NOAA's public access web site, our optional commercial feed provided by iMapWeather (the default), or your Allison House subscriber account.

Blown Away   As I write this Chicago is experiencing high winds with a nearby gust of 56 mph. The Doppler showed this clearly in conditions of only scattered clouds.
This is one of the best weather apps out there and is well worth price.

Pilots Delight   I'm an Airline pilot and I love this application! If there would be any way to add a short loop, faster updates and two radars showing at once then it's perfect.Great app.!

Very nice   Animation makes this one of the best weather apps for iPhone & itouch.
A few things could make it even better.
Adjustable animation speed.
Forward/rocker modes for animation.
Watch/warning area polygons.
Storm track indicators.
Major/County Highways
The ability to submit position & weather reports to spotternetwork.com would also be wonderful.

Radar Scope Great App for Bikers   Great application for Bikers. The application we have been looking for to provide the location of stormshere in Florida. We can then bike around or put on our full rain suits if we have to drive through thestorm. Great for tracking a hurricane when in an area where there is no HDTV reception. Thanks, Gene

Pro Radar on iPhone!   I'm an experienced meteorologist and tracking Hurricane Gustav. RadarScope is an easy-to-use but powerful tool for weather radar. It's worth every penny because it gives you assured low-latency access to both the reflectivity and the Doppler wind velocity information for the US radar network. If you're on the road, it has a geo-locate button that automatically pulls in the closest radar. The radar information is far easier to pull in, with fewer clicks, than with other web or application solutions I've seen for the iPhone. - RadarScope review by Phoon
A Great Radar Tool for Technical Use   Many of the low-rated reviews are presenting misinformed and even distorted information. Each NWS radar only updates each 4 to 6 minutes based on the volume-scan mode they are in. RadarScope is giving us low latency from when those volume scans are completed and made available from each radar. Unlike the other free products mentioned, RadarScope presents the real data that is geo-located in its true polarmetric form and not just a simple government image. The cost of this product is reasonable considering the technical engine in the software, potential for the future, and more assured data stream it provides. The developers appear responsive and aggressive at improving this product. I think it's one of the first industrial-strength weather tools we've seen in the App Store. - RadarScope review by Wibba
Simply the best   Awesome radar. I love the velocity mode. Been watching the hurricane all day. Also the author responds quickly to questions - RadarScope review by DeepskyGuy
Excellent and much needed!   This app is an excellent and much needed addition to the somewhat mediocre pool of weather applications on the iphone. The radar is excellent and scales well to different levels of zoom, never becoming overly pixellated. The addition of velocity shows that this is, thankfully, geared towards a more weather savvy audience than that of the typical weather app. I only have 3 suggestions. 1: some kind of interpolative smoothing a la GRLevel3 2: interactive loops. 3: storm attributes and storm tracks/pathsThe addition of these 3 things would make this an unbeatable weather app. I look forward to future updates on this already wonderful app. - RadarScope review by Weather Fish
Real Radar   I was sceptical regarding this app at first but it's turned out to be an excellent purchase. This app gives you real weather station radar and is more accurate than what I've seen in any other weather app now available. Once you know how to read the radars it's very useful; I was able to estimate when the eye of a tropical storm would arrive within a pretty good timeframe.I would like to see the ability to choose more than one radar at a time; even just two would be nice. I'd also like animated radar as other's have noted. It does pixelate as you zoom in, but not sure anything can be done about this. - RadarScope review by synthblock
Nice!!   Great app. Would like to see some sort of interactive looping. - RadarScope review by Tsquire9
Well done.   Works as advertised, sharp. Short loop may be nice as others noted. Worth the price. - RadarScope review by DanInPA
Radar   Excellent product. Easy to use. Would like to be able to adjust the transparency of the map and/or radar. Great for people living in areas where severe weather is always a concern. - RadarScope review by Emboli
Awesome App   You get what you pay for. Excellent application. Real time data. - RadarScope review by N6ZRN
Great Potential!   So far I love the program. It's very smooth to zoom in and out. Very detailed radar maps. And the locate button using the iPhone's built in GPS rocks!
Some things I would love to see added if possible. Time lapsed radar would be nice and or automated updates of radar say every 30-60 seconds.
And the option to choose more than one radar site to widen your view.
Great work guys but don't stop here! Always room for improvement right? - RadarScope review by Schluppy
Good app, needs a couple of things   Very sharp looking app. Would like to be able to select more than 1 radar site at a time especially in areas that overlap. Animation would be nice or some sort of storm direction overlay. I know most of this is restricted to the info provided by NOAA, but it would be nice to have. - RadarScope review by Jdrew from Evansville
A few pointers   First to aid "iPhone Weather Man" this app is said to deliver radar data posted by NWS sites. Don't call yourself a Weather man until you understand ground clutter. If NWS is recording that data and this app is delivering that that data, the problem is the source not the app delivering it. However, I did not rate the app high either. I cannot locate a way to put the radar images in motion. I may be just not seeing where to turn it on. However, if that feature does not exist, add it. At $10 a pop you can afford a little R & D. This feather is immensely helpful to storm spotters like me. Please ready this by severe WX season in 2009. - RadarScope review by KC9EVP
Does what it says, but requires experience to interpret   This is a tool for serious weather watchers. Probably not appropriate unless you already know what "base velocity" means. I won't end up using it, but I'm still giving it high marks because it's not the developer's fault that I chose something that wasn't aimed at me. In trying to learn more, I came across comments about "ground clutter" on the NWS web pages, and, if I'm understanding correctly, this is not an issue with Radarscope. Rather, this is inherent in the way doppler radar works. IOW, Radarscope isn't "doing" anything to cause ground clutter. - RadarScope review by dmi7b5
WONDERFUL,just wonderful   There is much complexity in the art of simplifacation(me spell good not can). Such advanced technologee deliverd in a simple to use package. The sickest app evey made-recomend I do. The interface is beyond smooth , it's just wonderfull. Kanex7z - RadarScope review by kanex7z
Wish I had this years ago.   The ability for the average joe to have a tool like this, especially during spotting activations is a dream come true. Considering this app essentially works on a cell phone is astounding. Anyone familiar wich clear air mode will recognize that even during clear weather the NEXRAD will display significant atmospheric signals, this allows for analysis of developing systems. The app refreshes as advertised, and the ability to pinpoint individual locations via GPS makes this app a winner. Before commenting on the "clutter", check out nexrad images directly from NOAA websites, you will notice the same images. During routine atmospheric scans, nexrad stations don't update instantly, so one can not complain about no "true" radar mode. Hopefully this mobile technology will continue to evolve, for the time being, this app fulfills it's duty extremely well. Imagine, 10 years ago this kind of information "one the go" would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. 10 bucks is a small price to pay. - RadarScope review by NH7FL
Best Radar App   RadarScope provides a detailed view of local radars with a easy to use interface. Radars and base velocity load extremely fast and allow the user to zoom and move quickly to other radar sites. This will come in very handy during winter storms, lake effect and severe weather season. Looking forward to radar animation. Keep up the good work. - RadarScope review by MotionUS
