Radar In Motion - KASoftware
Radar In Motion is based on the popular Dashboard widget by the same name. It allows you to view an ANIMATED map from the National Weather Service for any location in the United States. You can search by city/state or ZIP code or use your current location. Know what the weather is going to be like wherever you are or wherever you are going!
Supported features include: - Display maps from the National Weather Service including Base Reflectivity, Composite Reflectivity, Storm Relative Motion, Base Velocity, One-Hour Precipitation, and Storm Total Precipitation. - Store your favorite locations for quick access. - Choose how the animation is displayed, including animation speed and whether or not to show a legend. - Zoom in and pan between different locations.
* How to read maps: The maps from the National Weather Service (http://www.weather.gov) provide raw data, including some random ground noise here and there, which is what you see sometimes even thought it is clear outside. If the dots on the screen don't seem to be moving in any particular direction, it is just noise and can be ignored. When there is weather in the area, it tends to be very clear, moving, and shows up as brighter colors. Basically, if you don't see anything green, yellow, or red moving in a particular direction, you don't need your umbrella!
*Note: Radar In Motion is now compatible with the iPod Touch.
Please contact me with any problems, including the zip code for which you are trying to load a map. I'll happily take care of issues that come up. 2008 Kamal Aboul-Hosn

Frame Rates   I agree with others that this is not the same quality as the Mac OSX version. Scrolling would be nice, also would be better if we could have some control of frame rates.

It has little in common with the Dashboard widget   It crashed my iphone as well. The graphics are neither as good nor as precise as the widget's graphics. As one zooms, you will find the resolution does not compare with the widget either. Therefore, it is not as usefull for tracking storm location as well as the widget can. I was dissapointed. It was the usefullness of the widget that encouraged me to purchase this app.

iPhone version not as good as Dashboard version   The iPhone version does what it should and I didn't have problems with crashing. However, due to copyright issues, the iPhone version is not able to use The Weather Channel maps and has to use government maps instead. This means it does not clearly show snow vs. rain and does not clearly show warnings and alerts (such as "Flash Flood", "Snowstorm Advisory", etc.). I like the dashboard widget's Weather Channel map much better than the iPhone map.

Great!   I've been using the Radar In Motion dashboard plugin for several years, and have been eagerly awaiting the iPhone release. It works just like you'd expect. It can discern your current location and then shows you an animated weather radar for exactly where you are. Or, you can tell it a different zip code or city and have it show you the weather for a different spot in the world.I've talked to the developer and there are new features coming soon, including zooming, multiple locations, and faster startup. But don't wait for the updates, this is a great app right now. So good, I moved it to the first screen and moved the google app to the second screen. - Radar In Motion review by AcaBen
Works As Advertised, Great App   Just downloaded the new version. All the original bugs have been fixed. Radars load extremely fast and animate nicely. The app now remembers your most recent location. Look forward to additional maps and zooming. Please add landscape view in a future release. - Radar In Motion review by MotionUS
Just "ok" for the first version   This application only partially fills severely needed hole for the iPhone. Some suggestions for improvement include:
1. Addition of time stamps
2. Zooming
3. Panning or links to adjacent locations
4. Bookmarks to favorite radars
5. Addition of 3 letter radar ID search
6. Addition of storm total precip and velocity fields
7. Addition of NWS storm based warning overlays.
These improvements are greatly needed. #1 is most important. There is no way to know when the radar images were disseminated. I hope the developer reads this. - Radar In Motion review by Irdwxman
Not compatible   I was amazed, after purchasing this app. to find that it is "not compatible with the iPod Touch." - Radar In Motion review by genoanv
Not the same   I'm one of the persons who wrote the developer asking for this. With the alternate maps it's just not the same and no different really than any of the other radar apps. As a Floridian it's useless without the ability to zoom. When I enter my zip code I get the entire state (about 60,000 sq miles). I can't even make out my local area, forget about the weather activity after the all the false reflections. While I understand the author's choice to use different maps for legal reason, I'm VERY disappointed with this app. - Radar In Motion review by tobiasbob
Bare bones   Ok, so they just added zooming. You get one more star now from me. It's very crude though, doesn't remember the zoom position next time you launch it, and doesn't do double tap to zoom either. All the other complaints still remain - no "pause on last frame", no multiple locations, and still hard to read. Still room for improvement :) - Radar In Motion review by phototrek
Clutter   Get rid of the clutter storm selection and horizontal radar useing goggle earth for terrain that would be perfect radar. - Radar In Motion review by Snake187
Decent starting point   I like the quality of the map (shows terrain). However, I didn't realize you couldn't save locations. I'd also like to be able to zoom in on a map.
I'm hoping the next release will include these and other features. - Radar In Motion review by rufhausen
A good first step- More radar locations needed   Kudos to the developer for implementing the function I have been waiting for since I first held a cell phone in my hand; the ability to see motion radar in the field. There are some limitations with this version that I hope can be improved with future updates- Mainly adding more choices in the locations of the radars available. Note too that there is a small location entry "bug". When entering City, ST, be sure to put a comma after the city. - Radar In Motion review by peregryn8
Works   Not perfect, but for 99. I can't complain, I like the new updates. Don't stop updating, brings different radars too, the one we have is my least favorite, and I don't think I'm the only one. - Radar In Motion review by BENNYpoker
RadarRipoff   I was excited to see a radar app that was like the widget on by iMac. Unfortunately it shows more ground clutter than actual weather. Unless they upgrade this app to match the widget on my iMac I'd advise against it. - Radar In Motion review by HansinOhio
Lack of zoom makes this an average app   I have to agree with the previous 'Floridian' without the ability to zoom it doesn't give the level of information I wanted from it. I hope future versions will allow for that feature. - Radar In Motion review by lorengray
I wanted to like it, but it really doesn't do anything   This application, while quickly loading, doesn't do anything other than show a loop of radar for a given area. As others have noted, you cant zoom or move the image or store favorite places or do antying other than view the radar image. You can do all of this with WeatherBug and it's free (though admittedly, it doesn't load very quickly). This would be worth the $.99 if it did something more. - Radar In Motion review by Argelius1
Not Good   I love all weather aps and was excited to see a new one. But it crashed everytime I open it :(. Also, it shows the echos from major cities that really takes away from the use of the radar. I wish I could get my .99 pennies back :(
Maybe updates will make it less buggy and add some features. - Radar In Motion review by joeinirvine
Not to great   First of all sometimes it takes a few min. to actually load and it seems that the radar is very innacurate, I have weatherbug installed and when I compare the radars they are sometimes different. And the graphics could be improved, like when you zoom in the words are still huge and don't adjust when you zoom in. Please fix these bugs. - Radar In Motion review by melo15kmart6
Update the update!   Since last update, used to much memory and takes too long to load. Even after restart of iphone, warning box appears stating memory low maps will not load. Please fix or it's off to the dumpster! - Radar In Motion review by Baker65
Great app   This review is frustrating because after writing a long nice review it was rejected saying the nickname is taken. It was not saved. Get with it Apple!
Ok I said it was basically a good app that will evolve. The developer had to use weather service maps because weather channel wouldn't allow it for apps. So the maps are not the same but looks nice. It is worthwhile to see how this evolves and I can certainly give him .99 after all the great use I got from the widget that was free by the way. He worked to improve it over the years so send in your suggestions rather than trashing it. It is simple gives one map of one area but loads fast if you need to check the radar fast. I will look forward to having bookmarked maps and a map of the entire us would be nice. Good job & thanks RIM! it is nice if you are on the highway and need to check on a storm to plan your travel or outdoor avtivities. - Radar In Motion review by Swyxcitx
