Misleading The app does not contain a database of information, it simply connects to various websites to retrieve the data (wunderground, skyvector, universal, etc) and it is useless without an internet connection. Also, it doesn't appear to cache data. Once your connection is lost, it just displays connectivity errors for everything, including the data you recently looked at. This isn't going to save any trees.It does provides a few convenience features for flight planning and places them in an iPhone friendly interface, maybe this is worth it to others, but I'm feeling a bit cheated at $70.

Good deal This is actually a good deal. I have been using their service for months paying $8 per month. The data needed for this changes every 56 days so it needs to be updated frequently. At $70 it is cheaper than a one year subscription to the old version. Excellent value I have no idea what people think they are comparing this to, but I'm comparing this to alternatives from Jeppesen and others. ForeFlight is mostly superior and a bargain. I've got a SR22 and this a much better complement than AeroPlanner or anything else I've used in the past.These guys have taken the time to pull together a very nice GUI that is slick and fast. I don't know where else you are going to get anything anywhere near as nice for preflight planning for so little money.Check out the website and see for yourself. Thank you thank you... When I saw the demo apps in the iphone 3G intro keynote, I was praying somebody would release an app that would be helpful for us pilots.. I mean, there were medical apps..And when I saw this app I was happy!!! Atleast there's someone representing us. Best aviation iPhone app EVER!! This app has everything that I need as a professional pilot. Not only does it take advantage of many iPhone friendly features, it beats the commercial mobile applications, hands down. Now that this is a stand-alone app, I now have this data at my fingertips in the cockpit when I need it. Unbelievable Product! I just passed my IFR checkride today and my examiner was blown away at what this application could do. We must have spent 15 mins going through everything and I am sure it helped give an impression of being very well prepared. Very impressive to have all this data that you need to make a go/no go decision without having to carry a laptop. The filing works great and is a breeze to use. Direct hit! Perfect product for pilots. All I can say is WOW! You guys made an incredible product. This is going to make my life so much simpler. From the ability to check weather, to a FULL AFD (not just 3 NW states I have now) to the ability to file flight plans through DUATS.

The Perfect Pilot's Companion Device ForeFlight Mobile 2.0 Preflight Intelligence is the handy pilots assistant that can take you from the start of your planning straight through to filing a flight plan.Simply open the application and use the Airport Facilities Directory (A/FD) to find your desired destination. The team at Foreflight have made the information in those green Airport Facilities Directories available electronically, and not just for your particular region. They have data for over 220 countries including 25,000 landing facilities. You can review airport data such as frequencies, runway lengths and even view runway, taxiway diagrams and even access to sectional charts. The tool helps you plan a visit to the local fixed based operator, review local lodging options and has information for transportation providers. You can even view the airports location on a Google map to plan getting to or from an airport or to see an aerial view of nearby terrain.If you are planning a flight you are surely going to be interested in some additional information that is but a tap away. The alerts tab shows NOTAMs for the airport you are looking at. If you are ready to review weather conditions tap the WX button to receive the current weather observation at the airport, which provides the METAR and even a translation for the METAR. From the weather page you can look at various weather data including current winds aloft information and a looped radar image. There is also an option to view forecasted weather data but if a TAF is not published for the airport you are looking at it will not return any data. I would love to see in an update a few TAF reports for airports within a 25-mile proximity of the airport being looked at.From a higher level you can view national and regional radar images, Airmets, Sigmets and prognostic charts from the weather section of Foreflight.If you are ready to fly and want to file a flightplan ForeFlight can even help you with that. This is the one part of the functionality that I have not yet used. According to the ForeFlight website you can file new flight plans "in under ten seconds and view your complete flight plan filing history." Flight plan submissions are through a CSC Duats account.Although, this iphone app will not fully replace all the online resources I use for flight planning it is a valuable tool that will be extremelly handy while on-the-go or at the airport. Excellent Software, Hope to See More! If you are a pilot, you understand that good flight planning software is worth a price. Considering this application has no recurring fees, it's a steal. Highlights and lowlights:What it does well:- Weather: Prog charts, radar, airmets/sigmets, satellite images. METAR, TAF, automated weather observations, winds aloft. AWESOME.- Airport/Facility Directory: Field altitude, airport diagrams, comm frequencies, runways, IAPs, approach/departure procedures, FBO info, VFR/IFR charts. EXCELLENT.- Airport Database: HUGE. I can't find an aiport that's NOT listed.- Flight Plan Filing: VFR, IFR, DVFR filing via the iPhone with your DUATS account. SWEET.Needs improvement:- Routing: Typing in 2 or more airport codes gives you the heading and range from one to the other. That's it.- Flight planning: All the stuff in the "does well" section helps with flight planning, but I'd love to see something that takes your input route and provides E6B-style calculations. Based on winds aloft, it could calculate your heading and ground speed, time enroute to fixes, etc. So close!Overall, already worth the $69.99. Currently unmatched on the App Store, and just a feature or two from being the perfect, ultimate aviation software. As a GA pilot, and one that watches the weather closely, this app is absolutely indispensable, easily worth twice it's price. Response to: A bad choice and I am a pilot... The arguement that you make saying that everything available here is actually free information is fundamentally correct but you are not making an argument about this product as much as you are the GA industry in general. Most all the information regarding aviation and weather is funded by the government and free to the public but it's generally not delivered in a very user friendly manner. You might not realize, being a low time pilot, that the entire industry is built on repackaging all this free information into more useful and usable products. Most of the books you buy from ASA are just FAA information. Test prep publications are just repackaging the FAA written exam. What ForeFlight does extremely well is collect all this information for you and deliver it to your iPhone. Not only that but they've obviously made the effort to make sure everything is clean and up to the standards of other Apple products. Seemless Integration I am a NYC-based Instrument rated PP with 350hrs, I have read all the reviews, and I agree with all of them; The Foreflight Mobile App has taken info all available elsewhere, and with great effort seemlessly integrated it into a fluid interface. So should you buy? A Must-have As a 40+ year pilot--fighters, Part 121 Capt and Mooney owner--I find this App invaluable. Example: after clearing customs at KERI last week with no facilities nearby, save cellphone to FSS, it made getting the macro/micro wx information/Notams and filing IFR for the next leg a breeze. Don't leave home without it. The cost: inconsequential. Stunning Absolutely amazing. Invaluable for my sort of general aviation flying. I've crisscrossed the country from the Pacific to the Atlantic with it (flying a little four-seater piston single) and I cannot imagine some of the days without ForeFlight along for the planning. Sitting in Champaign, IL my family was able to enjoy lunch instead of sitting at the airport watching the weather radar because I had ForeFlight on the table and I was getting updates every few minutes. We knew right when to head back for our departure window.Readers that complain about the price must not actually fly. Great App, Great Bargain. As both an active duty military pilot, and a "weekend" private pilot, I have come to greatly rely on this App for both types of flying. I am able to check NOTAMS and WX just before I hop into my Apache, and access data much more quickly than digging through my pubs bag in a cramped cockpit. Excellent Application Excellent application, well worth the money. Being able to put in an airport ID, or just click on your recent searches, and having everything relevant downloaded automatically is great. Have successfully filed from the ramp several times. Had one minor issue and tech support was quick to respond with a simple solution. Doesn't get much better than that.
