Train your dog to do tricks! Train your dog to stop barking!
Features -Variable frequency tone generator -11 different sound patterns -Bark detector -Sound level meter -Saved settings bar
*IPOD TOUCH USERS please note that the bark detector feature is not supported on the iPod Touch.
*ORIGINAL (1ST GENERATION) IPHONE USERS please note that this application may not render tones at true frequency values on the original (1st generation) iPhone.
How does it work? Dogs are capable of hearing sounds at much higher frequencies than people. A dog whistle works by emitting a high frequency tone in a range that a dog does not ordinarily encounter. The highest frequency a normal middle aged human can hear is 12,000-14,000 Hz, so don’t be alarmed if you can’t hear all of the tones yourself. These high frequency tones have the effect of immediately getting a dog’s attention. Dog whistles are typically used as part of a training routine designed to train your dog to do tricks or for behavior modification. A pure tone is much easier for a dog to distinguish compared to verbal commands. Different sound patterns can be used to trigger different responses. For example, two short bursts could mean stop and one long burst could mean lie down. The bark detector feature of this application triggers a tone when the sound level exceeds a threshold. This feature, in addition to training, can be used to help you train your dog to stop barking. Dog whistles are great training tools and has been used successfully with all breeds.
How do you tune your dog whistle? One method is to adjust the frequency of the tone, while your dog is sleeping, until your dog’s ears perk up. When this happens you have found a frequency that your dog is sensitive to.
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY. Please note that dogs may not have an intrinsic response to high frequency tones such as those used in this application. Therefore, you must train your dog to respond to the tones much like you would train your dog to respond to verbal commands. Through this training, many dogs will develop a conditioned response to respond in accordance with its training when it hears the tone. If your dog is not trained to respond to the tone, your dog may not respond to the tone. Recognize the possibility that success in dog training may not come as fast as you may anticipate, but relentless effort and consistency of commands will sooner than later reward you with success. Please consider this before purchasing our application.

Get that annoying dog to SHUT UP!!!   Neighbor's dog barks all day long when they're not home. Nothing shuts it up until now! Had to have patience to find the right frequency and settings to give the dog a reason to go to the other side of the house where I can't here it anymore. Sound output can be pretty loud if your near the iPhone but this dog was on the 2nd floor and was uneffected so I docked my iPhone on my Bose Soundock and cranked it up until it hurt!! 2 days later, no more barking (at least on MY side of the house!) I don't know if it's legal but if the cops won't come out because of a neusance dog then I doubt they'll be interested in a 120db dog whistle!
You guys are my HEROS!! Keep up the good work and don't let people who don't know how to use the app get you down!!

Great for annoying   This is a great app to annoy people with if you find a good frequency and hold down the button until you get yelled at.

Pomeranian Yapper!!!   This may be premature hence the 3 star rating but I have a yapping Pomeranian that barks at her own shadow. I reluctantly installed the app but said why not for 99 cents it will be worth a try. I played with all the settings and watched her reaction to it. I eventually found a setting she consistently reacted to and I set the bark meter, turned up the iPhone Volume, put it down, and walked out of the room closing the door behind me. I began knocking on the door and the barking commenced. Every time she barked above the threshold the Dog Whistle would alarm and she would hesitate initially then start barking which it would go off again and again. I kept knocking and the barks became less and less until there was none. I will continue to ambush her with the Dog Whistle activated and see if this was a one time thing but for first session, I consider a success. Good app, I will leave another review for an update before I call it great and give it a 4-5 stars. - Dog Whistle review by stro71
THANKS for the iPod Touch (2nd Gen) version   See my original comments at bottom. I tested it at the full frequency range and one of my two dogs responded every time, the other most of the time, but more subtly. That is something to be aware of before criticizing this application. Even if a dog hears it, she may not respond. Like any of us, dogs learn to filter out sounds that are basically environmental noise. If your dog is subjected to high frequency noise on regular basis, she may not show any outward reaction to the new source. Loud music, electronics, urban settings are all sources of high frequency sound. We don't hear it all to realize how much noise there might be, but a healthy dog will. However, if a dog's brain has been conditioned to filter out certain types of noises - in the interest of doggie sanity - she might seem not to hear it. Even when a dog does react to this application's output, it may be as subtle as a slight and momentary movement of the ears. If you miss that, don't blame the app. developer. And if the reaction is that slight, it still gives you the opportunity to reinforce the response to allow the dog to know that something (good) will happen if they pay attention to the sound. Give it a chance, give your dog a chance. My high hopes have been rewarded.Old version: I understand because of the bark detecting function, aspects of the current app. would only work on an iPhone, but having just the dog whistle functionality on an iPod Touch (2nd gen) would be great.I give 5 stars for my high hopes. - Dog Whistle review by longtemps
Does Exactly as a dog whistle should.   I've read the other reviews and had to write my own. A metal dog whistle doesn't just work, you have to train a dog to respond to it -- This Application is the same. The other people's dogs don't respond to it because they haven't trained their dog to do so. It'd be like me saying, "beep" at you and expect some response. It's not magic, its a noise that dogs can hear and -most- humans can't. On that note, it does work. I can hear it up to about 16.4KHz and my son can hear it up to about 19.4KHz (and that is great fun in itself). I dropped a star because the sliders don't work well. I'd rather see a 'dial wheel' of choices from the 0.1 KHz up to the full 20KHz. It would also be nice to be able to favorite two or more frequencies and assign them to onscreen buttons (I have two dogs and can train each to a different frequency). As an addition I'd also love to see a plain old click so I can use the application to clicker train. Multiple, selectable clicks or chirps would be even better as I have multiple dogs -- and then I don't have to have a clicker with me. - Dog Whistle review by wiredl0ve
Nice, pure, high-frequency tones   To those complaining that this app is not training their dog: any regular dog whistle will produce the same sound, it's your job to train your dog to react. - Dog Whistle review by The fever, the focus.
Works like a charm!!   I was actually pretty skeptical when I bought this app for my Iphone. Many of the reviews were not that great. Glad a took a chance and gave it a shot. It had my Min Pins attention the second I pushed the button. She no longer barks when guest ring the doorbell. Thanks so much for this app!!! - Dog Whistle review by JWhat79
Awesome find!   I found this through a review on FreshApps. I was just lamenting a couple of days ago about not finding our old dog whistle. And now here it is! My dog and my two cats's ears are definitely sensitive to it. - Dog Whistle review by Shokk
Should have read instructions. . .   This looked like a really cool app, but when I downloaded it, I found out it won't work for the iPod Touch. I don't understand this because it has speakers. It will be much better when it works for the touch 2nd gen. - Dog Whistle review by iamwritingareviewaboutthedogwhistleapp
This App Is Something!   Update: 11-17-08Well it worked and I could hear all the sounds but now I hear nothing.... I even rebooted the phone, and tried uninstall and reinstalled and same thing... so for now its broken..... was neat when it worked....I have trained dogs for many of years.... either in obedience or conformation...... when I was checking this out it sure caught my yorkies attention.... I think the dev did a great job! I can't believe how well this app works.... if you want to train your dog or puppy not to bark turn on the bark detector and then set the threshold to what you want and as soon as the sound meter reaches the threshold it makes the sound.... so if your dog barks it hears your dogs bark it will indeed make a sound.... you can also experiment with the frequency of the sound you want to use as well.....I really like this program..... My oldest yorkie loves things that makes noises.... so he thinks its a new toy for him.... but it is a great training app! Thanks so much! - Dog Whistle review by thetoothfairy
Not An Ear Raise   I've played with this little app with two of my dogs arranging all of the parameters and not an ear raise or head twist. Unless you like listening to your iPhone make weird sounds, don't waste your .99 cents. I thought that there would be more settings toward the inaudible range, but I could hear every sound produced from each setting, one would think that you would hear nothing and at least get some sort of reaction from the pets. - Dog Whistle review by CFD703SPC
Dog did not respond   My dog didn't even give me the time of day no matter what frequency I tried. Even went right up next to him, and he didn't even open his eyes. - Dog Whistle review by puckfan99
Don't waste your time   I have 3 dogs not one of them flinched after hitting the button 20 times - Dog Whistle review by P. Dante
DOES NOT CALLS MY DOGS ATTENTION.   This app might have been well thought out but it does not work. A real dog whistle is capable of getting all of my dogs' attention. However, though I tried it in every frequency, my dog shows no reaction. It appears as if my dogs do not hear or care about this whistle. Good idea - bad product. - Dog Whistle review by Bito & Bita
BAD!!!   Waisted a buck! I could have bought a three musketeers bar :( - Dog Whistle review by Please not be taken
Dosn't work   I bought it ,and it wont install on my itouch 2g becouse it says its not compatible or something . - Dog Whistle review by lexo luther
I hate myself   I'm embarrassed for wasting a dollar on this piece of garbage. I feel almost as lame as the person who came up with it, but not quite that lame. - Dog Whistle review by Jrbrook76
Why can't it work on 2nd Gen iPod Touch ?   I'm guessing this is a good app, but why it does it not work on 2nd Gen iPod Touch ? I mean it has speakers like iPhone, so why cant it work on Touch ? - Dog Whistle review by zupermannn
Worthless   If you are in a silent room and stick it in a dogs face it might look ate you like "can I eat this?" - Dog Whistle review by BryOniOn
Messy   Made my dog wet the carpet. Sad. Was dat supposed to happen? - Dog Whistle review by ladygagarocks
