Sonic Vox - Smule
"Find your inner 'Vader' or 'Smeagol' with SonicVox" cnet
Tired of your same old voice? Seeking a little vocal variety? Get into character with Smule’s Sonic Vox, the real-time voice shifter.
Here are a few ways to use Sonic Vox: ✦ Just talk into your phone, holding your phone to your ear as you would when using it as a phone. ✦ Sonic Vox is better with headphones. ✦ Sonic Vox is best if you plug your phone into external speakers and use the phone as you would a microphone.
Our tutorial video, for example, has the phone plugged directly into a video camera (speaker-out to mic-in) -- this is quite effective.
Note that Sonic Vox cannot change your voice on existing iPhone calls. You can, however, integrate Sonic Vox with Skype. Connect your iPhone (speaker-out) to your MacBook (mic-in). Switch the system preference to Line-In. Launch Sonic Vox. Launch Skype. Make that call.
With Sonic Vox you can alter your voice with a swipe of your finger. Want to cross over to the Dark Side? Slide your finger to the left. Now say it. You know you want to. “Luke, I am your…”
Or maybe you are feeling conflicted about having lost a “preciousssss” ring? Slide your finger back to the right this time and go ahead, rant on.
Transform your voice even more. Simply slide your finger up and down and hear what happens… happens… happens…
You might try other entertaining apps from Smule, including the acclaimed Magic Piano, I Am T-Pain, Sonic Lighter, Sonic Boom, Ocarina, Zephyr or our new Glee.

I Almost Gave It A Bad Review   I read the one-star reviews and almost conceded. But I too have the first generation iPhone and couldn't hear a thing, either- at first. Then I looked at the volume button and it was somehow turned way down when I plugged in headphones. I "pumped up the volume" and it worked fine! WARNING: high volume with headphones can hurt your ears and watch out for feedback (quit the app in this case) if using the speaker.

Brilliant! No More Sucking on Helium Balloons   This app delivers simple, stupid fun. I liked it best plugged into my speakers for amplified terror. No need for sucking on helium balloons anymore with this iPhone app in hand. I hope they update it to work on regular calls sooner than later. That would totally rock in a super creepy way! - Sonic Vox review by iPhoneSavior.com
Suh-WEEEET!   This is an awesome start, guys.the resolution may sound a little chunky in the lower register, but not too much different than what many voice changing VST's sound.I was wondering if it would be too hard to add flange and chorus filters to it, or at least a simple LFO?Try saying "taco-taco-taco-taco" with the higher voice setting... reminds me of Gir from Invader Zim.I already have some plans to use this plugged into a few soundboards! Good stuff! - Sonic Vox review by Solusfides
I will totally use this for Halloween... bwhaa, haaaa haaaa   This app is pretty great. I'm going to hook this up to my stereo and freak out all the kids when they come trick-or-treating next week. :) These guys come up with some crazy stuff (I got the lighter before and the firecracker now too) and they're super sweet! Good job Smule-folks. - Sonic Vox review by benderama
Sonic Vox FTW!   This thing is pure dope, especially for the price. Works best plugged into speakers. Represent! Get this and serve it in people's faces. - Sonic Vox review by Nay Guy
A must have for Halloween !!   Place your stereo outside, connect your iPhone to it and close the door over the cable. Now you can properly welcome trick or treaters with a dark and scary voice. My two housemates liked this app so much that I'm not sure I'll be able to use my phone on halloween... - Sonic Vox review by newIfan
All I get is static...   I have a 1st generation iPhone and this app does not work at all. All I get is a feedback/static sound. I emailed Smule. No reply. Obviously not everyone has this problem, but because I didn't get a reply from Smule I wanted to let other potential buyer know. As for me I did not get what I paid for. - Sonic Vox review by castelmg
So much fun!!!   The Smule team has done it again! I love their other 2 apps but this is a whole other level of fun-especially with Halloween around the corner...this is going to be wicked! Keep 'em coming Smule! - Sonic Vox review by llay
Great app   This app is great and works awesome! Worth a dollar. Great for Halloween - Sonic Vox review by Joey cannon
Great Idea...   I have an external speaker with a music port that works perfectly for this app. The kids love it. It could use some preloaded voices (Disney). And may I suggest making it able to use this while in a phone call. That would be sweet! - Sonic Vox review by Crascal
A better voice   Wow, totally cool, I always hated my voice. Now I can have anyone I want! - Sonic Vox review by keifferz
Cool   I really liked it but as people said, it was not loud enough and it will make a really good prank it you could do it when the phone is in lock mode!! - Sonic Vox review by samilo
entertaining   impliment with this with the phone function and this would become an instant classic. - Sonic Vox review by sh0N
Great fun!!!   Those who gave it a bad review obviously haven't plugged in their iPhone into speakers. The iPhone mic and speaker seem to be too close to work well as they are. Plugged into a set of speakers though...wow. Sounds great!!!! - Sonic Vox review by Bigpaws
Great for Halloween and 3G phone!   Well it seems there are a lot of bad reviews here and I think I know why. I got it on my 3G and it works great. The sound quality is excellent and very clear when plugged into external speakers. Unfortunately when my friend with a 2G got the app it wasn't nearly as impressive. Must be a difference in the hardware between 2G and 3G phones. I guess you can't win them all. It seems that Smule is dedicated to their products though and hopefully they will have an update soon for the 2G-ers.But for a 3G phone this app is a MUST HAVE! Especially for scaring people on halloween, and fans of Star Wars or Alvin and the Chipmunks. Another great app by Smule. - Sonic Vox review by a_Team
For use with external speakers!   I used Sonic Vox this Halloween to greet trick-or-treaters and made quite an impact, it worked great on the iPhone 3G connected to my iPod Hi-Fi external speakers! As others have mentioned, you can't use it to alter your voice on phone calls you make with the iPhone. You need to have a cable to plug your iPhone headphone port into external speakers, camcorder or computer sound input; if that's what you plan to use it for it's a fun toy and definitely worth the buck! - Sonic Vox review by sam12345
Sweeet   This is quite an application. All those low reviews purely because it cannot be used in conjunction with the iPhones phone-capability are unjustified. It most likely has to do with Apple not allowing the apps to work with the phone. Personally, I think sonic vox is one of the neatest applications out there. The dogs love it, the friends love it. Plugging it into some portable speakers and sit at a coffee-shop, hide the speakers and scare the anyone who sits near you. Pure fun. 4-stars only because it needs some more variation in voices. - Sonic Vox review by smokey1985
Good app, but can be better   It's pretty fun, but it's dissapointing you need Skyke to make phone calls, and that your voice covers over the enhanced one. - Sonic Vox review by Da Awesome Guy
Cool, but   How can I get my second gen iPod touch to get output to speakers? I tried a headphone splitter, but it doesn't take input. Please help!! - Sonic Vox review by Craplicker
Misleading   The video is misleading. I can not even here anything with the iphone by itself. When I plug in headphones i can barley hear it. Not worth my Dollar - Sonic Vox review by keia71
