Each of the included instruments sounds very real because:
This is not the usual machine like sounding computer drums, but real instruments samples at different dynamic levels.
Each instrument in RealDrums XXL is sampled many times and this gives the natural sound.
In order to play RealDrums XXL hit any instrument on the lower part to get a soft hit. The higher you hit the instrument the harder will the instrument be hit and you get a totally different sound. NOT only a sound with more volume !
A lot of customisation (system settings) let you adjust RealDrums XXL for your needs.

Greatest-Sounding Drum App for iPhone Many of the other drum apps are great if you just want to goof around or you want to just make a simple electronic or hip-hop beat, but for anything more than that, the sounds are very static and you can easily tell they are not coming from a real set of drums. RealDrums XXL solves this problem, the dynamic sounds on the drums really are great and it is easy to control how "hard" you hit the pads. The developer has worked hard and Version 2.0 is a huge improvement, and overall it's a great set of drums in your pocket!

Latency Issues The other review says, 'the developer worked hard on this.' Who wrote that, his mom?
These are just drums with too much verb and the latency makes it impossile to perform with.
Maybe the developer will work even harder with an update to correct these issues.
Not worth the 'sale' value of $4.99 yet.
An update could change that...right mom?

Not as good as the original RealDrums The original RealDrums app (still available) is much better. This version really only gets you a different and worse sounding kit and a new layout, which I do not like at all. Stick with the original RealDrums, for a more realistic and playable set. Both Apps scream on the 3GS. I play along to music all the time, and it's a lot of fun. I can crack out for an entire plane ride.
