iStethoscope Pro turns your iPhone into a stethoscope, allowing you to listen to your heatbeat and see your heart waveform, or listen to other quiet sounds around you.
For best results: - Use good quality headphones (heart sounds are often too deep to hear using the white earphones). - Press the microphone in the bottom of an iphone 3G to your chest. A good place is the apex of your heart (below your left nipple). - Place the microphone directly against the skin, not through a shirt. - Take the iphone out of its protective case if you use one. With practise you should be able to find a wonderful clear sound. Shake the iphone to hear the last 8 seconds and see a phonocardiograph display.
WARNING! It takes physicians years to learn how to use stethoscopes correctly and the iphone microphone is smaller than a conventional stethoscope diaphragm. You cannot place the microphone randomly and expect to hear your heart - you must place it very accurately. To hear your heart you must learn where to listen!
If you'd like to see how easy it is to listen to your heart using this program, go to my youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/writingpeter Do not place your phone over your heart if you have a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator fitted.

Truely awsome   I don't know what every body is talking about this app not working. I have an I touch with a mic headphones and it tracks my heart beat to the dot. And besides it's free so man up and stop blaming it on the app and think "am I using this correctly?"

This app works as promised - you've just got to put it in the right place and listen carefully   The sound of your heart is very quiet - this application amplifies it so you can hear it yourself. You need a quiet room and a good sense of where your pulse is in your neck.Turn the volume down until you have the mic positioned. Feel with your fingers first until you find a strong pulse. Then put the iPhone headset microphone where your finger feels the pulse the strongest - make sure the microphone is against your neck. Then turn the volume all the way up without moving the microphone. If you and your environment are quiet enough, you'll hear your heart. Remember, it isn't the beats you hear but the valves closing, so the sound comes after you feel the pulse in your vein.Very cool!

Thank you!   This app may have saved my life. I was sitting at my desk not doing anything, when my heart started racing. After about ten minutes, I downloaded iStehoscope and within minutes I was able to hear my heartbeat and it measured my BPM at 170! That was enough information for me to drive myself (dumb idea btw) to the ER, where within minutes I surrounded by six people all working to gather information and get my rate down. Once again, thank you for creating this application. It worked really well for me, I will definitely buy your book in support.

Can't complain...   It's free, it works... Those who claim it doesn't, probably don't know their rear from their elbo and couldn't find their pulse with a map and a guidence system. For those of you who need help... Before you try to place the super small inline mic on you pulse, first find it with your finger, then place the pinhole sized microphone directly over the pulse you are feeling. It is worth a try, it IS FREE after all.

iPod Touch 2G compatibility   Why is this only compatible with the iPhone? Any app that doesn't require the camera or GPS should work with the 2nd Generation iPod Touch.I can't give it a 1-star though, because I can't even try it.

Amazing!!   I had no idea the iPhone mic was so sensitive. I wish they put better instructions on the app on how to use it. Was about to delete it because I couldn't figure anything out, but decided to give it one last chance and watch the YouTube video. It actually works and works really well!! I put in normal headphones, not the iPhone headphones with a mic, set it to heartbeat clear sound (or whatever it similar to that name), turned the volume all the way up, and held the microphone on the bottom of my phone to my chest. Amazing!! 5 stars.

Works as advertised   I think the negative reviews are from people who do not realize that you are supposed to use the mic on the headphones.

One star is VERY harsh.   There is nothing misleading about this app. It does exactly what it says. I heard my heartbeat and saw my bpm. It's also really neat using the other components of this app. I heard things so clear, it was kinda creepy! It reminded me of those ghost hunter shows I watch where they hear "ghosts" in the room with them ;p
All in all this app does what it's meant to do, hence the 5 stars.

Very impressive. People please remember, this is a phone!   I'm sure it was not their intention for u to go and throw away your standard issued steth. It's just a PHONE application. Have some fun!! Oh yeah, it's FREE!! I love it. Curiously awesome. Go find a quiet place, lay down, listen, and appreciate. Jehova bless you.

So very functional   This free app is really good. It's better than what some hospitals spend government money on. The key?
You need common sense to operate and the ability to read small fonts.

Clearly iPod users are idiots..   They think everything on the app store is for their iPod. Idiots. It's for iPhone. It worked for me showed my heart rate. Really cool and very sensitive to sound. Definately a good buy.

It's great!!   A great app AND free! It provides a fun and useful stethoscope. BTW - If you can't hear things very well when holding the in-line mic to your neck (which I found hard to do), just put the mic on your chest (bare skin). The heartbeat is much louder then and easier to hear.

I don't get the 2 star rating   This app does exactly what it says it does, perfectly and for free. I feel like I'm missing something when I see a 2 star rating. Was there an update that fixed some issues or something?
Wouldn't be bad to incorporate an auto attenuating mechanism to help prevent eardrum damage while repositioning the [contact mic].
Was having fun last night listening to my stomach gurgling and trying to see if I could hear anything in my (pregnant) wife's belly.

Just use the headphone's microphone   Oh my God, you're not so smart. If you plug in the headphones, the iphone's mic cannot be used anymore. Just use the headphone's microphone instead and will work.
