Real-time bus tracking is here! MassTransit 1.3 has support for the MBTA's new T-Tracker. Nearly all bus lines are available now, and the rest will be online by the end of summer.
MassTransit is the first and only app to give you quick access to all of Boston's subway, bus, commuter rail, and ferry schedules with no need for an internet connection.
The schedules are stored in your iPhone or iPod Touch for quick access anytime, anywhere. Some of the highlights:
- One touch access to your favorite stops.
- Detailed maps for all routes.
- First and last train times for all subway stops.
--- Internet connection required:
- Transit Finder: Where are the nearest stops?
- See T Alerts that affect your travel.
Just bookmark your favorite stops and you'll always have the schedules right at your fingertips. You can also browse the schedule for any route, and if you have an internet connection you can check to see if there are any service outages with T Alerts.
We've been hard at work adding the features our users have asked for, and we have a lot of great stuff coming soon. Let us know what you want to see in MassTransit!

Good, will soon be great   Very functional and well designed app. Yes it does not have T stop times, however MBTA does not publish a schedule for the T. I emailed the devs and the frequency for stops-which is public from the MBTA-will be in the next update, along with operating start and stop times where availible. Eta for this is the next two weeks. I'm stoked.
All told great app that looks to only improve.
Also includes a zoomable T map, which is a copy of the MBTA map.

Well designed and very useful   I've been using the app for a few days now and it's been very useful. I think that the UI is easy and logical to move around in, and the ability to bookmark stops is excellent. There's room for improvement in terms of additional features, but in my opinion nothing that's currently in the app has any significant usability issues. The developers were also very responsive and quickly answered my pre-purchase inquiry with a detailed response, so I'm confident that the app will continue to evolve and improve. If you've been mucking about with fistfuls of PDFs for bus and commuter rail schedules (like I have), this app is a big improvement and well worth the price.

Finally. Someone read my mind!   I was so excited when I read that this app came come out. I ride the T several times a day so this is a livesaver. The app works really well and saves me more time than the mbta mobile website that requires a signal. I love the fact that I could bookmark stops so that I know exactly when to make it out to the bus stop. The GUI could be prettier, but hey, I'll take it.

Not much more you could ask for   This app is an incredibly useful tool if you use public transportation to get around in the commonwealth. As tedious as the boston transportation can be (and it can be tedious) this app makes getting around simple. you just check whatever bus, train, or boat you're going to take and find out if its running smoothly and (more importantly) if it's going to take you where you want to go. The only thing that could make this app more useful would be push notifications and AR capabilities. All's we need now is some better service while on the T, ahem ahem

mediocre at best   I downloaded this app, as it had the best reviews. however, I'm very disappointed. an app like this is great if you're familiar with Boston, and while I know my way around (I've visited probably 6 times over the last 5 years for about a week each time), it leaves a lot to be desired.
let me start with what's good:
it's interface, once you learn how to use it, is pretty useful at giving you information on any line in Boston. and the fact that this doesn't need Internet access to get all of the data is great underground, where service is unreliable, if not unusable.
but that's where it ends.
the home screen, on first use, gives you 4 icons, which all look very similar. it's hard to tell which to click on. I sat, waiting, for a few seconds for the rest of the app to load. apparently it was done.
bus schedules are blank most of the time, while buses are still running. theres not a very good map interface or interaction with the stops.
honestly, googles integration into the maps application is better than this.
two things that would raise this review from 2 stars to 5 stars:
location services and directions.
if I'm at some location, I'd like to know where the nearest stop is (both bus and subway).
I'd also like to know, if I'm going to location N, what's the best way from where I'm at.
then show me on a map.
otherwise, to a visitor, this really isn't all that great. integration with google maps and location services would make this application really excel above the rest, but right now, it's pretty weak. save your money and just use google maps.

Just what I needed!   Thanks to this application, I finally know what time my bus is supposed to arrive. And with my "favorite" stops right on the front page, the most important info is right there. No clicking, no hunting, just right there. Well worth the price for anyone that rides the MBTA.

Nice commuter app   I'm an occasional T user. Works for me when I need to know what train runs where and when.. "Just the Ticket". I know a lot of ppl who commute and have their regular trains memorized who have looked at this on my phone amazed at all this info is in this package. Better as of a recent upgrade, too!

Wonderful for Boston commuters   This app is wonderful - it puts all the useful information from the MBTA's website in an easily accessible place. Very useful for people who use all types of MBTA transportation. It would be great for visitors but for me - someone who's always lived in the city and whose commute consists of a commuter rail and 2 subway transfers - this is the app I've been looking for for a while. Just wish I'd found it sooner!!

Best mass transit app out there   I work in Boston and NY. This is the best app I have seen. User friendly and a sharp and crisp user experience. Still some minor tweaks need to be made but this app is a must for any metro Boston commuter.

MassTransit (Version 1.2)   Just downloaded the new update (1.2) and I can say it's vastly improved. I came from NYC where the MTA apps were a dime a dozen, here the sparkfish MBTA one is the only game in town but it's gotten it right enough to suit me fine. And with the update things have certainly improved. Of course there are little things I'd like to see like a trip router but I guess that's what google maps is for. Good job Sparkfish!

Not what I hoped.   The resolution of the bus maps is really bad, and the bus stops listed are limited to the same ones on the printed bus maps. In addition, all times are still approximate. As of now, the printed maps work better than this app. For future versions, I'd like to see all the bus stops included and GPS tracking.
For the T, this app will do nothing for you unless you really want the subway map with you at all times.
For now, MassTransit is best used for getting an idea of how often the buses are running when you are doing something outside of your regular rravel routine.

not what I need   Primarily a bus route and scheduling app. What I was hoping for was the level of specificity that is available for busses to be available for all the other modes of transportation, esp. since I use the subway and not busses. It would also be useful to have a transit map overlay for a street map and be able to tell me where the closest subway stations or bus stops are relative to both distance, schedules, and disembarkation points. So, this app is disappointing to me, and not even worth the $3 I spent on it.

I use this app all the time   Excellent app that's getting even better. A single click shows you when your next train, bus, etc… is leaving. I like the simplicity of that. Also they just updated it to include MBTA alerts and the ability to use GPS to locate the nearest public transportation. Very handy for commuters and tourists.

Really useful   Was using the first version of this app a lot for bus times, but am really liking the new one. Once I figured out that tapping the map icon opened up a bunch of features like mapping nearby transit stops, basically my only complaint about v1 was answered. T alerts is a bonus too.
