Beware - app expires after season This app has great potential, but so far it is not what I had hoped. The maps for a large resort such as vail are completely unreadable. In addition, many of the features such as web cams are just a link to the resort web site. Not all it says it is. At first this app seemed nice, but upon buying it and testing it, I found that it was not everything that it said it was. The webcam views just took you to their website to see them. The resort maps also just took you to their website to see them, and you couldn't zoom in enough to actually read any of the text. I found that the snow reports were never accurate, and usually indicated that there was no snow, and the resort was not open, even though I was skiing there at the time. The only useful feature is the GPS maps. Their splash screen doesn't allow you to access any useful information about resorts that you are not near without first selecting one that you are near. This is a great app for skiers. Highly recommend. I have been an avid skier for many years, I live in Colorado, I have an iPhone, and I LOVE this app. It is so cool to be able to pull up current conditions (like weather, new snowfall) for all my favorite ski areas, as well as trail maps (and this really cool feature where you can see your own GPS location on an actual map of the ski area, complete with lifts and trails). And this latest release is a lot more stable than earlier releases. Has potential Great concept, but application is clumsy and maps look like crap. The interface is a wannabe google maps. Any zooming forces a total reload that is SLOW, even on wifi. Will not work without a good connection, so to me it is useless on the slopes. Tried it at A basin and Loveland and it did not work. Great Idea, It Crashes Constantly At $6, it is on the high-end, so--therefore, high expectations. In the first 20 minutes of trying the application, it crashed at-least 10 times in various locations (all using 3G, no Wi-Fi). I give it 2 stars because I think it is a fantastic idea--but still 2 stars because it just does not work effectively using the 3G network. Map Clarity... This app would be the perfect thing if the maps that are loaded from the respective websites were more clear. When zooming in, the names of the trails are too blurry to read. This app is gonna rock once the snow falls! I was skiing in Loveland this past weekend and my friend showed me this app when we were up on the lift. It showed us exactly where we were on the trail and has snow reports and GPS maps for all the resorts were going to go to this week. The GPS maps are sick! Even though I pretty much know where all the trails are for my favorite resorts its gonna be incredibly useful for the resorts I haven't been to yet here in CO. Slowest app that i've ever used!!! Update (12/7/2008):I used this app on the slopes at blue mountain, PA and the GPS DID NOT work with the trail map. Didn't show me where i was, didn't do anything but show me a blank screen. Also, this app is the slowest app that i have ever used. Takes forever to load, so much so that I don't even bother anymore. To the developer.......you need to make this app FASTER. Also, when launching the app, it is always trying to locate you (maybe this causes the slowness), this feature is stupid, because i know where i am, and i don't need the app to try to locate me unless i SPECIFICALLY want it to. this should be disabled by default. Finally, saved trail maps need to be displayable in landscape mode and even when downloaded and "saved" to the iphone, it still takes forever to load the maps. Knocking this app down to 2 stars because i see no real useful enhancements to the app so far.Need maps to be saved locally on the iphone with GPS working on these maps, all without data connection. Anything less than this makes this app useless aside from getting snow/weather data which I could get from competitor apps or simply weather.com.Also, maps need to be viewable in landscape mode to be really useful. Poor snow reports This is a cleaver concept, poorly executed except for the GPS overlay with resort maps. The rest ismetely a number of links - which means you're only as good as the sites you link to. Of particular concern is the awful snow reports - Jackson Hold has received 24 inches over the last several says and the reports continue to say no new snow!
