Looks nice, but not practical This app seems to have a lot of potential but I when I read that it does not offer yardage to the hole, I couldn't find a reason to map my course for this app.

Feedback from a buyer - Used it on a course today First, this is not a review from someone who decided to save his $10. I wish iTunes would prevent people from commenting on things they have not purchased. I used Plum Caddy today on a course in Virginia. I didn't want my regular golfing buddies to have deal with me playing with a new toy, so I went to the course as a walk on and luckily ended up with a couple of duffers. They had enough problems of their own so I had plenty of time between shots to fiddle with my iPhone. First, some recommendations for future users. 1) Make sure you put in the course information before you get onto the course. I finally keyed in the rest of the holes around hole 10. That improved my experience dramatically. 2) Make sure you try this out at home before getting to the course. It takes a lot of getting used to. 3) My final recommendation is to simply not get this app right now. At the end of the day it does not provide any real usable value.The single biggest issue with the tool is the complete lack of "undo" or "back". On one hole I realized that I had one more stroke than the Plum Caddy had logged, but because I had already hit the "Putt" button, I was toast. Oddly, you can very easily remove stokes from any hole at any time, but you can't add. The need to "undo" was huge. If you accidently click in the wrong place or double click, then you have to go to the preferences, edit scorecard, and then remove the stroke. If you accidentaly go to the next hole, you can't just go "back" unless you key in the hole information. The GPS was also pretty poor. I have been very impressed how google maps seems to know exactly where I am, but Plum Caddy sometimes decided that a 100 yard shot was really 6 yards. I was able to hit the Get Yardage button and it would correct itself, but that only worked some times. Another concern about the GPS was how long it took. I finally got in the habit of setting it to Get Yardage, balance the iPhone on my golf bag, take my shot, and then come back to the bag to see if it was done or not. I can honestly say that by the end of the round I probably ended up with less than 10 yardages recorded that were valid. And that is pretty generous. There seem to be a lot of missing functionality. For example, if you turn off the GPS functionality, it is impossible to turn it back on. I had to stop scoring at the 4th hole, start a new round, and then re-enter my previous scores (shot by shot) in order to get the GPS functionality to work again. You should also be able to turn off all the pop up messages. I can't tell you how many times I cursed that today. You should also be able to just edit your scorecard so that if you are not capturing each shot, then the application still has some value. Also, the stats at the end of the round offers the ability to count the number of sandies, etc. Of course, you don't have the ability to put them in. Also, the average number of putts was wrong. If you happen to have not entered in the entire course, then the trouble gets really ugly. For example, if you are trying to enter in a shot and accidentally flick the screen to the next hole, you cannot go back until you enter in the hold information. Again, trying to do this and keep up the speed of play is basically impossible.I think the tool may have some potential. I just would have kept it in the hands of the developers a little longer. The first thing I am going to do when my iPhone recharges is delete this round. A lot of work for nothing. I am definitly going to wait for a couple of updates before I take this on the course again. And yes....the single most important yardage that golfers care about is the distance from their ball to the green. So without this functionality the app is more trouble than it is worth on the golf course. I would love all the stats is could potentially provide, but unless it tells me how far I am from the hole I am going to keep my eyes open for a iPhone App that does that. I hope this is what is included in the great stuff they are promising. Finally, if the Plum Caddy developers are reading this, I was expecting the following type of functionality:1 - I get to the tee and click tee-off (and maybe choose my club). The phone grabs my current location (i.e. no dragging the annoying tee icon)2 - When I get to where my tee shot landed, I click "second shot" (choose club? in fairway?). The phone gets my location3 - Repeat.4 - When I get to the green I pick "Putting" and then it prompts me about how many putts it took. Not impressed I should have waited but was too excited to get a GPS enabled golf program for the iPhone. There is no database of courses right now. You have to manually set up the course from template holes (dog-leg left, etc.). The GPS will only tell you how far you hit the ball, not how far you need to hit the ball. Setting up the courses is clumsy and you have to set it up as you play your game, you can't pre-set it up the first time so it takes a while because you have to pretend to be playing through 18 holes. - Plum Caddy Golf Mapping and Scoring review by Blackti3
From frustration to anticipation I bought this on Friday Aug 8th and deleted it on Aug 9th. That being said, I have taken a 2nd look and attempted to get some answers from Plum Caddy to try and salvage my $9.99. I was very excited to use on our course in Atlanta but could not get anything to work. After I trashed it off my phone, I wrote a letter to the company and was shocked to get a response, on SUNDAY no less. They were very curious about my problems and asked detailed questions. Then...shocker...the phone rang and "Ben" from Plum Caddy was calling to help with the issues and also told me what was coming with additions and updates. Kudos to them for caring in this day of lame customer service. The reality seems to be that they might could have spent some more time testing but they went ahead and launched anyway. I guess it's tough to test a product like this without the masses getting it in their hands. Our feedback seems to matter. Not a true GPS rangefinder The gps feature is NOT a rangefinder. It merely calculates the distance of your last shot. The description is very deceiving and gives the impression that it will work like a rangefinder. This really doesn't provide much help on the course.

On the right track After pricing golf GPS devices with full color I chose to try this app. One great feature is the fact that you don’t have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a device and then spend more money downloading courses. You just choose each hole from a generic list then let the GSP determine the distance the ball was hit. The app tracks the club used and the number of strokes for each hole. This program works well, but there are some features that would make it more useful; It needs to have the ability to track more than one golfer. It should display the distance to the green from each shot. There needs to be more choices when choosing a hole template. It would be really great if you could create your own course layout and share it online then download it to your iPhone. Cant get it to work and having trouble understanding the interface. I have no clue how to use this app. I consider myself fairly logical and nothing I do seems to work.gps is never successfull and attempting to forge on without it doesnt seem to work either. I cant find any documentation to support it.I've reported my conerns and request for supporting documentation. Hopefully I'll hear something soon. Don't bother I was excited when Plum Caddy released this app and bought it on Friday so I could use it while golfing Saturday. Sadly, I found this app to be pretty worthless. The GPS was extremely inaccurate (it said my shot was 4 yards when it was really 225 yards). It was very cumbersome to have to map out the course while you played and really provided nothing to the game other than another distraction. I stopped even trying to use it after only the 3rd hole because it was such a waste of time. I really didn’t expect much out of it for only $10, but thought knowing how far I was hitting each club would be helpful and it would be cool to keep track of my game. The GPS would need to be accurate within at least 10 yards to even begin to add value, and in the future if they plan on adding distance to the hole (which would be great) it’d need to be accurate within a couple yards. Plum Caddy is AMAZING This is a very well written and thought out program. If you have to exit the program it saves your data and is ready to pickup right where you left off. The GPS capability is awesome and the templates for the holes are nice. Program runs very smoothly. Muni course players take note It's time for municipal course players like you and me to step into the brave new world. I used Plum Caddy on my municipal course here in Hawaii and found it to be a great addition to my bag. Worthless app No GPS support means that this is nothing more than a course map. You can pick up one of those from the starter. How can it be used as a rangefinder? NO longer GPS enabled. Glorified map at this point After spending considerable time mapping course that would not load found out today that app no longer uses GPS.
