Needs to catch up with others   When Air Sharing first came out, it was a one-of-a-kind that allowed you to upload/download files. It was a God-send! However, the restriction of WiFi was a hinderance to a point (at least for 1G iPhone owners) if you weren't near such a situation (in your car). Still the ability to view various files was a great addition to the iPhone. Now that there are alternatives that allow access to iDisk or other WebDAV sites from anywhere, Air Sharing (v.1.1.1) seems a bit dated. These others (MobileFiles, OneDisk) allow you to also view files as well as upload, download, email, and in the case of MobileFiles Pro, edit spreadsheets. Add to this Apple's recent update to MobileMe's iDisk which allows file sharing, and you see the possibility of moving files more easily to anyone anywhere with these other apps. Air Sharing has not progressed to that state as of yet....it needs to, fast!iWork '09 file formats are not yet supported, but that's an Apple issue for the iPhone (2.2.1), so no one else's apps can either. Still, it's a bummer overall. Not all PDFs can be opened on AS; any large ones (over 5MB), especially with major graphics, seem to choke it. With spreadsheet editing now available, I'd venture to say that the first (or best) app that edits docs too will win this iPhone file sharing app race. Air Sharing needs to hurry up!!

Good, but not quite there   Air Sharing is (at this time, at least), superior to its competitors FileMagnet and Stanza. It doesn't require a server-side application to transfer files to the handheld device, and its PDF reader supports implicit bookmarking. That means you can read a long PDF document, quit, and when you come back to it, still be at the same page. All PDF formatting (italics, page breaks, bolding, etc.) is preserved (which is a feature the makers of Stanza consider unnecessary), so Air Sharing is the clear winner there, too.But as a document reader, it still suffers from too many of the drawbacks of similar utilities. The reader screen is surrounded by wholly unnecessary gray borders that cut into the already-minimal iTouch/iPhone viewing area. There's the gray wireless/time/battery bar at the top, reducing screen area still further. And at the bottom, there's the biggest gray bar of all, holding two pretty much useless "up" and "down" arrows. The iTouch/iPhone photo viewer makes use of the entire screen, so there's no reason a document viewer can't do the same thing. Worst of all, each time you scroll up or down, a big gray " of " page-number display obscures about one-eighth of the top left of the screen. Okay, it goes away after a couple of seconds, but it's very annoying, not needed, and you can't turn it off.Scrolling is up-and-down only; the more natural right-to-left page-style scrolling isn't supported, even as an option. There's no way to jump to a specific page, either. The only way to get to a given page is to scroll there, one. Page. At. A. Time. Not a big deal for a small document, but if you're reading a long PDF ebook or magazine, it gets very tedious, very fast.Air Sharing gets full marks for its innovative and effective way of transferring files to the handheld device without special serverside software. But as a reader of the transferred documents, it still needs:1: Explicit bookmarking, so the user can manually choose which page will be bookmarked. Multiple bookmarks would be nice, too.2: Full-screen viewing, without borders, bars or page-number displays cutting into the viewing area. Again, the iTouch/iPhone photo viewer can do this, and it's even more important for document reading.3: An option for horizontal scrolling.Of the three file-transfer and document-viewing utilities I've mentioned, Air Sharing is the clear winner. But until the features I've outlined above are added, I can only give this utility three stars. Avatron has come up with a great method for transferring files, and now they need to put equal effort into the interface for viewing them. That would make Air Sharing a truly five-star program. - Air Sharing review by PDFreader
So Far a Great App!!!   I have been in need of a files app and have been in the process of reading reviews of all the File app's out there and this came up today and I love it more than the rest!PROS:- Has very detail directions on how to use it!- Looks to have the most foramts supported- No lag on large documents.- FREE at least for the first two weeks!- Can navigate file menu easily !!!!!- Easily transer documents!- Password Protect- Options to show hidden files-THE LIST GOES ON....CONS:- I just bought Folders app (greatly disapointed with folders app) but this app should have come sooner!!!!!! (will not mark off any stars for this) - Air Sharing review by CADaholic
Very nice start!   I have downloaded the following types of files with the following degrees of success: Microsoft Word files show up beautifully and pretty much retain their formatting. Also lovely in landscape (uses the accelerometer).PDF files: gorgeous. You can pinch and spread to read those tiny letters in landscape.Microsoft excel: very nice. of course you have to use the landscape orientation to see a lot of it, and also the pinch spread to see smaller numbers and cells. Powerpoint: a big file (672 KB) is slow to open up. Seems to need to work very hard to get that thing posted. But once its there, it renders just beautifully. Keynote: The keynote file, for some reason, only displays the first page with a red banner in the corner that reads "thumbnail". I am still investigating to see what may be happening, but the original is the full presentation, not the alias or anything. So this may be an issue for wiser heads than mine. Overall this is a spectacular idea! The only thing that of course would be even better, is that you could actually edit the documents once you got them on the phone! Of course that would be "paid" functionality. One thought, though, the up and down arrows should advance the document one page at a time by the page break. RIght now it only goes about 3/4 down. I can use a finger stroke to get to specific lines, but the up and down arrows seem to scream for a "page by page" function. Other than that, BRAVO!!!!! - Air Sharing review by dhayman
Oh, wow...   This is an amazingly done piece of software! It's well designed, it works exactly as you'd want, it's completely intuitive, has built-in help for Macs, Windows, Linux, and browsers, and opened anything I threw at it. In fact, it's much faster than iTunes if you just want to load a couple of songs onto your iPod or iPhone to listen quickly, or even a movie (it will play these with QuickTime). And it lets you use your device as a portable flash memory, without having to plug it into a USB port (which has some cool implications...). It even looks nice! And getting it free is even better :-) Thanks, Avatron, this app rocks! - Air Sharing review by CatsAreGods
Great app but...   Nice app, good suport, easy, fast but have a lack of some features like, zip files, rename function, create folders, send via email etc.... - Air Sharing review by FrankMelo
I would love it - if it would WORK!!!   I have no idea why this app won't work for me! I have a brand-new aluminum iMac and a white iPhone 3G; I'm trying to copy my Honors Literature Keynote presentation onto my iPhone (just in case the school computers poop out and I have to show my teacher that I really did finish the presentation), but my iPhone won't even mount in Finder. I tried re-typing the server address again and again, sometimes switching my iPhone to have a password, sometimes switching the password off, but it just wouldn't work. I then tried to set it up using Bonjour but I couldn't find instructions for just how to do this on the developers' web site. All in all, this app wasn't worth the 5 minutes I wasted on it or the $6.99 you will flush down the proverbial toilet if you buy this app after the introductory price of $0. The only reason I'm not deleting it is for that very reason - it's free and I'm waiting to see if the developers will fix the bugs. If you're reading this review and the app is still free, download it but don't use it, unless you're willing to put up with the headache.Sorry to dis people working for free, but getting my hopes up that I could use such great features on my iPhone and then putting me through this utter disappointment doesn't leave me feeling very grateful. - Air Sharing review by Dougelo7
crashed   The interface is nice and kinda intuitive. I had no problems connecting to my mac.The big problem though was when i tried to read a 30+MB PDF file and my iPhone rebooted...the PDF file didn't even show up, it just rebooted. - Air Sharing review by bluejob
Doesn't work for me   Lots of great reviews but I guess I'm just not smart enough to get this app to do anything. Followed the directions given and can not get the iPhone to mount. This app needs more detailed instructions. Glad I didn't pay anything for it. - Air Sharing review by need to sync
Thank you for making this!   Works effortessly and does exactly what you said it would. Great work! - Air Sharing review by Dezerett
PERFECT! WORKED 1ST TIME, EVERYTIME!   Tried a few others (DataCase, etc) and this one did the job PERFECTLY with no fuss. Directions are even included...no web site to go to, no registration required, THIS IS WHAT APPLE SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED! - Air Sharing review by Applewine
Great app for free, but with a few short comings.   The Good: Easy connection via wifi. I've only tried transferring and viewing some pdfs and jpegs but it handles both well, no resolution degradation. The Bad: There seems to be a cap or bug on the size of a single transfer. My first transfer was a set of 6 pdfs of about 9MB each and I got an error after about 4 of them transferred successfully then I couldn't drag the other two over until I disconnected and reconnected. My second error occurred while trying to transfer a single 69MB pdf where I got an error at around 40MBs. The other problem is when viewing a jpeg that lies in a folder of jpegs you can't skip to the next image in the folder without exiting out of the image and going back to the folder. There are arrows at the bottom of the screen when viewing an image that suggest you should be able to go to the next image in the folder but it just seems to be broken.Hopefully and update will fix these couple of issues. I glad I got in on the ground floor though, you can't beat free! - Air Sharing review by stlredbird
Beautifully Done   I've looked and tried more than one of these folder-mounting/wifi sharing/ftp server hitting implementations and can say after just 10 minutes with this one: it's the BEST. You're kidding at just $6.99, right? 8^D - Air Sharing review by actual_size
No so fast   While the features and UI look promising, in the end the program was worth precisely what I paid for it ($0) after it proved impossible to get it working, even after mutlitple goes at the on-board help files, and a long visit to Avatron.com support page. - Air Sharing review by GoingBoeing
Excellent ! Very Satisfied   This is the only file manager for the iPhone | Touch that I have used & I am very satisfied with the set-up documentation, features & ease of use. After a few minutes reviewing the instructions, I had set-up & successfully connected on my first attempt. Transferred several file types, though 2 did not transfer successfully. Compared to my Palm P D A, this was easy & more reliable. While I cannot compare the other options available, I do recommend this app
Cheers ! - Air Sharing review by Sandman619
Works great!   It's simple, fast, easy to use and looks nice as well. I loaded a pdf and xls doc onto my phone and they come up instantly. Any changes such as deletions or name changes are also reflected on the iPhone instantly. Great app! - Air Sharing review by Tony Tea Bags
Confused   If this is free for only two weeks, will I get billed for it after the introductory period? - Air Sharing review by tetyerts
Perfection!   I could not believe my eyes when I saw that this application was free for a limited time! Thanks to the developer for such a strong application and generosity as well. Even once Air Sharing has a price tag it is worth every cent! I have been waiting for an app like this. - Air Sharing review by Troublebaker
Great app   Works well with Windows XP. My only complaints are 1) it didn't open a txt file...(but PDF and Word were great) 2) wish I could email files that are stored on the iphone. It woudl be great to be able to attach my VCF or resume. - Air Sharing review by Mbierman
Excellent App. Worth any amount they decide to charge.   This is a great app. It works right out of the box with no fuss. Has a great help section if you need it (I didn't as it worked just perfectly). Very fast and allows me to show just about any kind of file off my iPhone I could ever want). Every iPhone owner needs a File Sharing application. Trust me that I've tried several and this one is the one to get. Get it soon. Tell your friends... - Air Sharing review by hen_carols
