Awesome app, awful icon.   I've been using Byline for a few months now and love it. The interface is great and plenty powerful, especially with the latest update.
However, the latest update also changed the icon from a nice, pleasant newspaper button to a weak, un-button with two b's.
Why does it have two b's when the name is "Byline"? I have no idea.
Why was it given a pure black background so as to no longer appear square like *every other icon*? I have no idea.
Please, bring back the old icon. Some of us actually care about the little details like this.

Best Blog Reader   Until I bought Byline yesterday, I had been happily using NetNewsWire, which is free. Byline is worth the cost difference. The major reason why is its seamless integration with a web view. When a blog feed reveals only a few tantalizing lines, simply push a button and you are reading the full blog in a browser seconds later. (With NetNewsWire, you have to launch Safari separately and wait for it to load.)The only reasons why I don't give Byline five stars:1. it is not quite stable enough (having crashed on me a couple of times in <1 day of use)2. there is currently no way to view one blog's posts at a time -- what you see is all the posts in a particular folder of blog feeds.

A must have for any Google Reader user   This app is fantastic and is the best application I have purchased from the App Store. I use it 10-20 times a day and it has never crashed or slowed down. It has a very clean UI with perfect font sizes and colors and it is very intuative. I have been using the iPhone formatted Google Reader site in Safari since I bought my iPhone in July but this app blows it away. It is so much easier to read and use; I'll never go back to using the Google Reader page on the iPhone. If you are a Google Reader on the iPhone, this app is a must have.

Excellent reader, just a few suggestions   I just recently purchased the new version at the great $3.99 price point, and have been loving it. The interface is beautifully clean and simple to operate, and lets me browse through the different folders I've created in Reader. Because of its simplicity and adherence to Apple's UI guidelines, this will be a very tough app for others to beat. It's very much worth the $4 it costs, and I would still purchase if it were $10.The only cons I can think of are mostly UI based:* Sometimes the UI locks up while it's updating the feed list and I have to wait on it.* For the more active feeds, if I had a way of flagging each item as read without reading the full article that would greatly improve things. I have a ton of feeds and I rarely read every item -- I skim the headlines and dig in to the interesting items. * I would love the ability to "keep as unread" and browse my "shared items" folder, just as I do in the Reader interface.* The wooden background is hokey, and doesn't rotate with the different views when you tilt the phone sideways. Because of all the standard shading that gets drawn on top of it, it looks poor to me. It seems like it was a good idea (from the icon) that just went too far. * The icons used for folders seem bland and lifeless - put some color into them.I'm a graphic designer at heart so some of my UI complaints aren't totally in sync with most others here. Bottom line, this is an excellent app and could be even better by making some of these changes. As it stands, however, Byline is very much worth the price.

Good app, a few more features could make it great   Pros: Very solid and clean execution of a feed reader. Integrates with Google Reader. Saves offline copies of all new items (or starred items via a preference) which is absolutely necessary for anyone who commutes by subway. Unread badge on the app icon.Cons: No view by tags or filtering by tags. No ability to "Mark all as Read."The app takes the less is more approach which is great for a mobile app, but I do crave a few more controls. If I could browse my feeds by tag and/or turn off certain feeds I don't want to see, plus be able to mark all as read, I'd add two more stars to my rating. This app has a lot of promise and hopefully these few features will be added soon. - Byline review by MightyLost
It's happened!!!   The folders integration has now made this app 5 stars. Excellent app for viewing reader rss feeds! - Byline review by BittIes
High-Quality Off-line Browsing   I've been using Byline since the day of its initial release. It's not perfect but it has changed my life. I live in NYC where I spend 1.5 - 2 hours a day on the subway. Byline allows me not only to view my feeds offline while underground, but MOST IMPORTANTLY it lets me to (in conjunction with Google Reader) tag ANY webpage I want for offline browsing. This is so valuable to me because every morning I would read blogs until I had to leave home. Now I tag twice as many articles than I could previously read in that small half-hour window, and read them at my leasure on the subway. Byline is just as responsive as Safari when reading a page, allowing smooth scrolling, zooming, rotating, and memory of page location. $10 is a lot of an App Store application, but it's dirt cheap for how much this has changed my life and how often I use it. - Byline review by Mizzar
Everything I wanted from an RSS reader   This is an excellent app. Well worth the price and hands down better than using the Google Reader web page from Safari. * Sync with Google Reader - I like that items I read with Google Reader on my laptop are automatically marked as read in Byline. * Offline Reading - I didn't think this would be useful for me since I am rarely out of 3g range, but even when I am in range, it is nice having a cached version of the page ready for me instead of waiting for the page to load in Safari. - Byline review by wiro
Great App. One problem...   I am writing a good review because I have hope that phantom fish will add a "mark all as read" function. If they don't have updates I will be very sad. :( - Byline review by iphonenotify
A good start   The UI is nice and clean, and basic functionality works as advertised. However, the app is missing many features, even when compared to the Reader iPhone web app. For example, it would be good to be able to pick between folders and subscriptions. The offline caching is helpful, but it seems to take quite a while to download all that it needs, even over WiFi. - Byline review by Mihai P.
Great update!   I'm a constant- all-day, every day- user of Google Reader. I impulse-bought this app a while ago and immediately regretted it. It seemed kind of clunkly and slow, and I couldn't see any reason to use it rather than the Reader web app. When this update came out, I thought I'd give it another try- and WOW! I'm really impressed! With the new interface and features- writing straight to notes, easily browsing folders- I actually like using this better than the web app! Highly, highly recommended! - Byline review by effyezall
New Version Adds Much Needed Features   This update improves on a lovely user interface, with some highly requested features, including 'Mark all as read,' marking individual items unread, and sharing. I'm looking forward to future progress from this app! - Byline review by MrKungFu
Google Reader for the iPhone, needs sharing support   I really like the app, gets almost everything right. However, I am a sharing addict. Sharing support is a must for a Google Reader app. - Byline review by Clintology
Not worth $10 yet   This app could be great, but without the ability to pick individual feeds or tags it is almost unusable. For people like myself with hundreds of feeds we need this funtionality. Maybe after an update it will be better. - Byline review by svrichards
Exactly what I was looking for!!!   Think of this app as the Mail app for Google Reader. Works great, easy to configure (since you are using your computer to setup) and the offline reading is great when there is no internet connection!!! Great deal! - Byline review by Fototravis
Everything you need, nothing you don't   Byline 1.x was a really excellent news reader. Syncing to your Google Reader account means everything is up to date and you're not reading things twice. You can even let Byline archive your news so you can read it when you lose service on the subway. And, if that wasn't good enough, Byline 2.0 makes it even easier and more delightful to read your news. The built in browser lets you jump to the source web page and then easily get right back to where you left off. Byline 2.0 also syncs your folders so that you can get to the important stuff if you don't have time to look through everything. It's the complete Google Reader experience in a polished, simple to use, yet extremely powerful iPhone application. - Byline review by tsmango
The Missing iPhone app   For me, this is the missing iphone app. I can read my mail in the tube*, play games, watch video and listen to pod casts. And with this app, I can read RSS via Google Reader when I'm underground and without a network connection. It's not perfect, but it's close to perfect for my usage. Pity there isn't a trial version, because once you use this, it's hard to stop (and I dont use the online google reader iphone interface even when I have a network connection)*tube == london underground. No wifi or cell coverage anywhere in there - Byline review by Nic.Wise
My most used app   Was $10 now only $4 if you use Google Reader you have to buy this app new update adds folder support. Best app in app store. - Byline review by Chanhuff
Watch the video   I was skeptical until I watched the video on Byline's website. Since I fly a lot, this solves a big issue of how to read content while not connected. I can save any website to read again later. I'm hooked. - Byline review by Kent Wien
Byline is a good off-line news reader   At least as good as Avantgo for Windows CE devices. A bit slow on synchronizing the pages attached to the RSS feeds however that's most likely a function of network connectivity NOT a flaw in the application particularly as it does not optimize the website for small screen viewing; You get the whole page, ads and all. It would be nice to be able to sort feeds by source and to control how many articles are synchronized but that may be something for the future. - Byline review by sdalek
