Good app, NEEDS ROUTE SUMMARY!   update 11/10..Still needs route summary!!! Live traffic is a decent addition to this app however in my opinion no where near as useful as the ability to preview the route in list format and select alternate routes accordingly. What would seem to be a fairly simple update to this application has yet to be adressed. I among many, many users have asked for this update and to this point have been left wanting..come on Navigon lets get this done!!...
This app has worked very well for me. GPS lock was immediate and strong, audible directions were precise and clear, visually looks nicer than my standalone TomTom 100. However the lack of a viewable route summary is very frustrating, a feature i have grown accustomed to on my TomTom. I believe that for the money spent the user should be able to see the route laid out before blindly setting out on your trip. Hopefully a future update will resolve this.

A very competent GPS...   Phone: iPhone 3GNavigon AG use: daily around town/weekend travel up to 150 milesPerformance: FlawlessNavigon 1.2.0Once again, I've used this app everyday since the below review (I use it to and from work, while running errands, and while traveling on weekends - just to test reliability) and I have to re-emphasize that this app is an absolutely reliable and quality GPS navigation device - all on my iPhone. I've been out driving with the new additions and it only makes this app better. I'd change my review to 6-stars if I could. I want to reiterate that I use an iPhone 3G (not a 3GS) and the app runs famously. When using the app in my truck, it sits in the center console and never has issues with satellite reception. I've added a velcro strip to the fairing on my motorcycle and it changes the way I ride due to the high-degree of accuracy of voice prompts - now with text to speech, it is incredible! I've read other reviews about needing a 3G or EDGE connection for the app to work - which is rediculous. On my long motorcycle trip mentioned below, there were several lapses in 3G/EDGE coverate (ie "no service"), but the app only requires reception from GPS satellites (hence the term "GPS"). This was a perfect app that is now exponentially better - and I'm sure future updates by Navigon will raise the standard as it has with its past two releases!Phone: iPhone 3GNavigon AG use: daily around townPerformance: FlawlessNavigon 1.1.0Update: I've used this app everyday since my trip below and I haven't had a problem with GPS reception, using the "Take Me Home" feature, or really anything else - to include solid directions from place-to-place. The visual display on this app is equally as good, if not better, than any other stand-alone personal navigation device (PND). Now that the app optimizes the iTunes volume to allow me to hear voice prompts I am updating my rating to 5 stars. This is everything you could ask for from a PND in your iPhone!!!Phone: iPhone 3GNavigon AG use: 637 mile trip from Hopkinsville, KY to Fayetteville, NCPerformance: Almost flawlessNavigon 1.0.0I watched this application and told myself I'd buy it when it reached a cumulative "4 star" rating. My wife and I took a motorcycle ride from NC to KY with my "blackberry savvy" wife getting tired of reading the Google Map directions on my iPhone while passing through towns and while looking for hotels and restaurants. While at a friend's house in KY I noticed this app reached "4 stars" (on my iPhone, anyway) so I bought it. It took about 2 hours on WiFi to download directly to the phone. I didn't do a single thing after installation - no resetting, restarting, re-doing anything as some reviews say they've had to. I started it up and it started working. Not being prepared to use it with the motorcycle, the iPhone went back to where it usually travels - rubber banded to the top of the brake fluid reservoir on the handlebar. The iPhone was plugged into the "line-in" on the stereo - the power cord connected as usual. We navigated for 3 days - through towns - to hotels - to restaurants - through the mountains - ONLY BY THE VOICE COMMANDS provided by the Navigon AG app! Other than ONE time of the app becoming "confused" in the mountains (it lasted for about 2 minutes), the app performed flawlessly! I was amazed! All of the voice commands were RIGHT on spot and we didn't miss a turn. I can't yet comment on the visual display because I didn't use it once. I ABSOLUTELY agree that the app needs to drown out the iPod when it gives directions (I did turn the iPod off when we got critically close to our destination to make sure I didn't miss commands). Depending on the type of music there is potential to miss a cue when the iPod is playing, but because the app sends multiple alerts before the actual turn, it's easy to catch at least a few commands. Overall I am extremely impressed with this app - especially after being so hesitant to download it after reading reviews. I would give it 5 stars if I didn't have to shut my music off to ensure I heard the directions. Looking forward to future updates!!!!

Disappointed   I bought this, got in my car, and proceeded to drive around. It keeps telling me it can't get a good signal lock. I can switch to google maps and it finds me within 10 seconds.i drove around for an hour with a red banner that said 'GPS' in this app - and no movement on the app. I can only imagine this means it's having trouble locating me with the GPS.I have a new iPhone 3GS 16GB. This shouldn't work this way.1 star.

Not bad, not great...   Fairly basic GPS product. While it may get you where you're going, the time estimate it provides is meaningless -- it seems to think there's a helicopter waiting on the roof to take you there. Without traffic info, I'm surprised they would even include an ETA as it serves no purpose. There's no option for a route summary, a written list of your route. There's also no simulation selection, a quick animated simulation of your drive -- though I can see the option for this pop up quickly but disappear just as routing is completed, perhaps an unfinished part of the program not allowed to remain on-screen just yet.The POI database is quite outdated, which isn't surprising from a GPS company that recently pulled out of the US market. There's a Taco Bell listed on Broadway in Seattle that's been gone over a year and a US Bank that moved down the street just over 2 years ago (both the new and old ones are shown). It seems they just wanted to get something out there first and hopefully refine it later -- it definitely has a beta-version feel to it. It may be worth it to those who want something now until TomTom comes out.The best thing it has going for it is relatively low introductory pricing. For me personally though, the usefulness of any GPS product without real-time traffic info is reduced by half.

Best Nav App, But Needs Improvements   Needed improvements listed first:1) Have street names in bold (thicker font) so that it's easier to see in front of the map background when viewed from a distance.2) Say destination address at least 1000 feet before arriving to the destination... it could also be included in type so that the driver knows what address to keep an eye out for. It currently announces the destination address only after you have arrived or passed the destination up, not giving you enough time to keep an eye out for it ahead of time.3) It should reroute directions back to destination in case you pass the destination up.4) When speaking exit roads for the freeway, it doesn't say East or West even though it is written on the sign shown in reality view. It only reads the road. It tells me exit on Willow, but doesn't say West or east.5) Freeway sign names in reality view also need to be bigger so that it's legible from a distance... maybe thicker font as well. 6) Live Traffic (have navigon calculate best route for fast, optimal, short, etc. based on live traffic)7) POI search needs to completely re-done. Make it like google maps in which you can just type something like "mexican redwood city ca" or "burger king menlo park ca". Having to go through the step by step processes of city, street, number, etc. are a pain. It's a bigger pain that you can only select whether it's east or west only at the end, after you have entered the street number. If you try to enter east or west along with the street name early on during the process, it will not find it.8) Make address entry like google maps where you can enter something like "2383 el camino real sunnyvale ca" all at once. In google maps, you don't even have to enter commas.-could make it so that you can import google map addresses to Navigon, since google maps has Point of Interests that navigon doesn't,9) Integrated Ipod controls needs some improvements:-Once in the integrated IPOD controls, when touching the button to choose songs, the options do not show in landscape mode, rather in a vertical position.-Do not blow up album artwork because it becomes grainy & it also is cut off at top & bottom. The album artwork also looks stretched sometimes.-Should make it easier to play all the songs, or to play all songs on a playlist without having to go through the add individual songs process.-allow integrated ipod controls to start with songs previously selected to play. I hate having to add songs each time I run Navigon.Great Functionality Listed:1) Great GPS lock. It might loose it temporarily at rare times, but it get's it right away. If you don't get a gps lock immediatly, simply take the time to start up the car and drive out of the driveway... it should get a gps lock right away.2) No delay on gps location. It shows on the screen exactly when I arrive at an intersection.3) Shows speed limits! It's good to know the speed limits. 4) Text to speech.5) Lane Assist that shows arrows that point where to turn up ahead.6) Has a reality view, which includes freeway signs with the actual names that I see on the freeway signs that I'm driving under.7) When 2 consecutive turns are close to each other, it will tell you which ways to turn for both of them ahead of time.8) Reroutes fast.9) App responds quicker than some dedicated GPS devices.10) Has always gotten me to my destination. I've been using it in the San Francisco Bay Area in California... in San Francisco, Berkeley, all the way to San Mateo, and San Jose with cities in between.

Hmm. Lots of promise, but rushed out the door.   Don't get me wrong. There's lots to like about this app. No monthly fees like AT&T wants. But one of the big advantages of a GPS on an iPhone is the connection with the Address Book. Entering the Destination Address is an exercise that all GPS systems seem to struggle with. Car nav systems, even in expensive cars like Beemers and Benzes, are famously difficult when it comes to the seemingly simple task of entering the Destination Address. The iPhone has a small screen and tiny speaker, but the one place it could shine as a GPS system is all the addresses that are already IN the iPhone address book. Going to visit your buddy in Atlanta? Just tell this Nav system you want to use a Contact address. All you do is select his address from your address book, boom, the address is snatched out of your Contact list and drops into you GPS software. One or two clicks... none of that old school spelling out a City, moving to another field for the Street, picking NE Street and then the house number, all that jazz. The Address Book-- THIS is the way to enter a destination address, right? Not so fast. UNFORTUNATELY, the current version of MobileNavigator North America has some problems copying over the address from Contacts in the Address Book. Sometimes it gets it right. Often it doesn't. I haven't quite figured out what makes it happy and what doesn't. This GPS does seem to like ZIP codes being entered, but about half the time, it just can't extract the correct address from my Contact list. Sometimes it just gets Gainesville FL 32*** (the program’s asterisks, not mine) with no street address at all, even though the complete address is right there in the Address Book. (By contrast Google maps has absolutely NO problem dropping a pin on its map in about 2 seconds for these exact same addresses, so the problem is not me). Anyway, when MobileNavigator North America doesn't get the address right, it routes me to the dead center of Gainesville, not to the right address. You can get around this problem avoiding using your Contacts as a source of destination addresses. You just do it old school style and type it into this GPS software directly and it will route you correctly, but that gives up a valuable aspect of this software. It's a software bug they should be able to fix, maybe easily. It does indicate, however, that this software was not properly tested before shipping. It's almost as though they could feel the imminent Tom Tom release breathing down their necks, and they were NOT going to be beaten to the market place. Thus, the discount. Very version 1.0, which it is. Fun to use (and all GPS turn by turn software still amazes me) but we are not used to laying down $70 for iPhone apps either. Summary, it’s not quite yet what you want it to be. Buy it if you want; just be prepared to forgive some things. -- Update. V. 1.1.0 this app still can't load a destination address from Contacts; instead of the full address, only loads the City, ST and first three digits of the zip. Why does this still not function correctly? Google Maps can load the address and locate Contact addresses flawlessly.

flat out does not work   The Navigon program cannot get a GPS signal -- even in the middle of a field, outdoors, with blue sky all around (guaranteed line of sight to at least eight GPS satellites). The iPhone native maps app gets GPS signal just fine, so the problem is not the GPS chip in the phone -- it's something specific to Navigon that's broken. I see that some folks have reported similar problems, while others have given glowing reviews -- so perhaps there's some lot-to-lot variability in the GPS chip output that the native maps app can handle but the Navigon app cannot. But the bottom line, for me and several other reviewers, is that Navigon DOES NOT WORK *AT ALL*. Hope I can return it...

Having GPS troubles   Even though Navigon has exited the US market for handheld portable GPS products I thought I would try the software. The Software looks great but either it is my new 3gs unit or the software because running the Navigon software I am unable to maintain a consistent GPS lock. The software gets a lock for 1 or 2 minutes but then loses GPS lock for up to 5 minutes. By the way, my Garmin GPS sitting on the seat next to me in my car maintains a perfect GPS lock. Also Apple maps works fine but I am not sure if Apple maps is using GPS or getting its coordinate from cell towers. Hopefully this new software has only a minor bug that will be fixed shortly. At the moment it is useless for navigation.

Only works on map mode   The navigation portion of this software doesn't work. When entering a destination it constantly states there's no GPS signal but if you go to the GPS info the latitude, longitude and even the SPEED shows in the apps info. If you go to map mode it tracks your location perfectly, yet going back to the navigation mode gives the same error. How this made it into an app in the app store is beyond me but I want my money back. Fix the problem (and it's a big one) and I'll update my review, but as it stands it's completely unacceptable. Use Telenav's app which you have to pay a monthly fee for but at least it works as advertised.

Won't get a signal   Despite being in an open area, and waiting for 10 minutes without moving, I could not get the software to get a good enough signal to actually give me navigation instructions. It was happy to run a simulation, but that's useless when actually driving.Incidentally, all other location-aware apps found my location just fine. I also had my Garmin Nuvi out to see if it could get the signal, and it did (very quickly, even though it often takes a while). My BlackBerry also has a GPS app, and it got the signal quickly, too.Total disappointment and waste of money. I'll wait for TomTom's app and GPS-enhancing base.

No GPS reception   While the Google maps app is able to acquire a GPS signal all the time, I had very little luck so far to get this app to acquire a signal.
Even when it claims to have a signal it shows my position in the wrong place (I.e. hundreds of yards off). When I verify this with Google maps it shows me in the right position.
As far as I am concerned this app fails in the most basic way a navigation app can fail: It can't tell where you are. This makes it utterly useless. Until this is resolved I can only recommend to not buy it. I did read Navigon's recommendation to reset the phone. I find this completely unacceptable - especially given that Google maps work just fine.

Good start, poor POI   As far as Nav apps go this one is clean, fairly (not prestinely) accurate, and quick to load. Easy to understand interface and easy to use on the road. The speech is very clear and concise and I enjoy being able to have my music play as the navigator is giving turn directions. Why 2 stars then? One very important, very crucial feature is fatally flawed. This nav apps POI is unforgivably out of date. I did a search on over 60 local resturants, bars, gas stations, museums, movie theatres, etc. Of those 60, 20 were new within the last 2 years. It did not find a single 1 of them. Of the 40 remaining, 20 of them were new locations within the last 3 years. It found 6 of the 10 of them. Of the remaining 20, the locations were over 5 years old. It found every one of them. I date the POI on this somewhere between 3 and 4 years old. Compare this to AT&T Navigator that was 100% on POI. Beware if you're a big user of POI because it also found locations that were out of business for over 3 years as well. DO NOT RELY on their POI at this time. 3-4 year old, inaccurate data is not worth $69.99, let alone the $99 they will be asking shortly. However, if they get this fixed, I would gladly and without hesitation revise my rating to 5 stars.

Better than my Navigon 7100?   UPDATE: My friend purchased TomTom for his iPhone 3GS. He let me use his iPhone to test the app. After testing the app for a couple of hours, I have to say I am glad I purchased Navigon AG. TomTom maps looks cartoonish, it's jerky, the arrow went off the road a couple of times, no lane assist, no speed limit alerts. Now let's see which GPS Navigation app will be the first to add traffic updates with re-routing and text-to-speech. I have a Navigon 7100 PND "Portable Navigation Device" which is a very good GPS, better than the other brands IMO.So if the 7100 is such a good GPS then why did I purchase Navigon AG? Two reasons. One, more portability than a PND and Two, Navigon is no longer in the PND USA market, So sooner or later no more support for the 7100.O.K. after using Navigon AG for several weeks I have to say I like it better than my 7100. The Navigon AG loads and finds a signal quicker. The touch screen is a lot better, It has most of the same features as the 7100. The Maps and POI's are more updated. Speed limits are now on residential roads, which weren't on the 7100 atleast not in my area. Here are some things I miss. Traffic updates with re-routing, voice recognition, and spoken street names(text-to-speech).Since we can no longer purchase a Navigon 7300t or newer models in the USA, maybe Navigon can add these features in future updates for the Navigon AG:MyRoutes(tm), 3D panaroma and landmark views, real-time spoken traffic updates and re-routing, spoken street names, use the iPhone 3GS compass so we know which way to go when starting a route. Thanks Navigon for a great GPS app."Looking forward to future updates."

Solid but needs Text to Speech   I've been using Navigon products as well as iGo 8 (which Navigon is based on). I have iGo8 on Windows Mobile and I was expecting the same thing. This app does not have 3D terrain mapping nor does it have 3D building landmarks. You can play iPod music in the background but it does not mute when announcements are made. Hence, I am giving this 3 stars. If it had TTS, Muted Music, 3D/Building/Terrain, I would give it 5 stars. Furthermore, it would be ideal if this downloaded traffic updates and had other GPS features like a speedometer, mileage tracker. I do like the Reality Pro lane feature. Bottom Line : This is a basic GPS app for the iPhone and well worth the $70. Unfortunately,It has the same tech as a 5 year old GPS system.

Finally, a nav app that makes sense!   Foolishly, I bought 2 others navigation apps & found I had to trash them because they were so bad. Their routing was terribly off, their UI was confusing, their features lacking. Unfortunately there was no "Lite" or free version of these to test out before buying them. I tried the Lite (free) version of Navigon for USA & it looked good from what I could see, so I went for it & I'm very glad I did.First & most important, the routing is right on. I like the options for routing such as "Optimum" or "Fast." But the directions were perfect. The time to destination was also amazingly precise. Second, the UI is very well done. It looks & functions very well. It's easy to find a POI, enter an address, have favorites, home, etc. By the way, the POI's have great little icons or symbols that actually reflect the business, for example a McDonald's sign, a BP sign etc. Attention to detail! It has 3D or 2D mode, and you can see a preview of the whole route. The only thing I would like improved here is the ability to see a list of directions as in the standard Google app map. The map zooms in or out smoothly & is fluid when driving. The voice is very pleasant sounding, even polite! She says "Please" often :) It is loud & very clear. I look forward to their full TTS.It includes the address book from the iPhone which of course should be a given for any of these nav apps. This app was definitely worth the $70 to me and am glad I was able to buy it before the price increase next month. I look forward to updates, but it's more than useable as it is right now. Kudos to them!
