Pros and Cons - My Take   Pros:-Finds my location on maps very quickly-It has the same finger panning mode that Google maps has (using your finger to move the map around on the screen)-Calculates routes very quickly and gives you a simulation that has speed adjustmentsCons:-NO turn by turn and voice directions-Zooming in and out requires the use of (+) and (-) buttons (there's no pinching like there is in Google Maps)-Not all areas have 3D maps (these are restricted to a couple of thousand locations)-Once a route has been laid out, it's quite difficult to zoom out and see the entire route

Decent App -   March 30 Update to my review after release of version 1.3First of all I'm glad I bought this app before version 1.3 came out as there was a $5 price increase in the application and I'm honestly not sure that the updates they did justify a $5 increase. And I also realize that some of these changes made in version 1.3 could be due to restrictions that Apple has put on developers - so some of these things may be greatly improved when iphone software 3.0 is released this summer.- While I still like this application I'm not sure I like the new 'way preview' that displays in the lower right corner - I much prefered the old visual graphic that was in version 1.2 - it was much nicer visually and it also told you how much distance you needed to travel until you got to the next change in direction - it would count down "1.2 miles", "1.1 miles" and it would even get down to a feet indicator so you knew exactly how much distance until your next change in direction - this seems to have been removed from this update - please bring that feature back - it was very useful - now you have no way to know how far you have to travel until the next change in direction.- They added sound to this new update - but the sound they choose has a little to be desired.- The '?' mark that displays the nearest road name is a bit odd as well - I wish they would just display more street names on the map then forcing me to tap this button to display some odd street name that is hard to determine where that street is.- I agree with another reviewer that they need to get an english speaking person to write their documentation - it is not written well at all and appears it is written by someone that does not know the english language very well. This app has great potential and I like it - but am disappointed in this latest update - it seems as if they have taken as step backwards - I don't get it.ORIGINAL REVIEW - VERSION 1.2I just purchased this app last night - I was always a bit intriqued by it so finally took the plunge and spent $19.99. After using this app for only a day here are my initial thoughts - will update more as I get more use out of the map.So far - i'm really liking this application - and it has advantages over the delivered google maps.PROSVery nice graphicsRoad maps are very detailed - even minor curves in the roads are displayed accuratelyRoutes calculate and load very quickly since they are stored on the deviceAbility to set display to 'daytime' or 'nighttime' display mode - nighttime has darker/different colorsA large variety of icons can be displayed on maps (ATMS locations, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.) with the option to turn off icons that are of no interest to you.GPS works well - even on a cloudy day.If you deviate from the inital route displayed - the new route is quickly recalculated and displayed automatically (google maps does not do this)CONSLong download time - allow a good 20-30 minutes to download and install the appSome minor inaccuracies related to businesses shown on map - (e.g. some business now closed)Not every street has a label - which reduces clutter on the map but personally would like to see more detailNo pinching or stretching on the screen - you have to use the plus/minus buttons to zoom in or out.

Almost a 5-Star App!   I really like this app. I think the price is fair for what you get. I've only used it a few days now and I'm getting more familiar with it every time. I own a business that involves maybe 8 deliveries a day. So I've used the Maps.app quite extensively. My biggest gripe with Maps was the lack of screen view options and Turn-by-Turn directions. I have to really focus on the screen when looking at the directions which takes my focus away from the road. Which obviously is dangerous.G-Map has much better view options and the Turn-by-Turn is great. I could look at the screen quickly and without really having to focus to see what turn was next. It was very much like a standalone GPS you'd use in a car. Some of the features I liked were the automatic day/night view options. The "Where To" tap has lots of options for looking up addresses, businesses, favorites, etc. And the overall graphics are much better the the Maps.app.With the good comes the bad. Although I would hardly say any of this is bad. More in the sense of lacking. First and foremost, the inability to lookup an address from your contacts is HUGE! Unless you are prohibited by Apple from accessing the Contacts.app you MUST ADD THIS! It is simply poor design to not have those two integrated. It makes no sense to have to write down a customer's address from the Contacts.app and then type it back into the address search field. Quite honestly if that functionality was in place you'd have a 5-Star app. But since you don't here are a few other shortcomings I'd like to see fixed. When leaving the app, to check your email, make a call, etc. and then go back to G-Map you have to basically re-do your destination and calculate again. Unless I'm missing something here, that is also poor design. Even with the Maps.app I can go back and see where I left off. I did try going to the Route Options tap and saw nothing that would allow me to resume my route. A few other minor suggestions. Have the app enabled so it stays on while running. I have to Go through my Settings to turn the Auto-Off to Never. An unnecessary pain in the... Also, the accuracy seems to be not as good as the Maps.app too. Which seems odd to me since they're both using the same hardware. But it's really minor because it's for driving so as long as I'm within 50 feet that's cool. Not like I'm going to be using this to go Geocaching. I'd like to see more multiplies of Zoom. All I see is 1x Zoom. Finally, include a link to your website with an online manual. There are still things I'm uncertain about and how they work. Like the Routes and Route Options. Maybe if I would of been able to find some help the overall review would be better.Even with it's shortcomings, this is a great app and I am very happy with it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's interested. I just really hope the developer pays attention to what the customer is saying and makes these changes. If you do this will be one stellar app.

Not Ready for Prime Time   Disappointing. $20 for something that has a very limited POI data base, cumbersome interface and constantly crashes is a poor investment.I take frequent motorcycle trips and thought this would be a great program to have on my Touch while traveling, after testing this for a day I have removed it will use the 1 gig of reclaimed space to add something usefull to me. Hopefully this program will improve in future releases with added POI's, better interface (how about a readable turn by turn direction table for example in addition to the small map for routes), and better system stability.Time will tell if it improves, it is a great idea and could be invaluable - but in it's current state it just does not work for me, the risks of being an early adoptor I guess........ - G-Map U.S. West review by mlacasella
Finally! Great Street Navigation   Excellent map graphics and user interface. This is a REAL personal navigation application. All that is missing is the turn by turn voice prompting. - G-Map U.S. West review by Beowolf726
Promising.   Well this is almost a GPS app.
It has a 3D view so it looks just like a GPS from Garmin. There is no voice for incoming turns though. You gotta follow the map like in Google Maps. It's easier since you always face north so it'll be handy until they either improve this app or a real GPS app comes out.
I do get the Africa bug though. Emailed the devs and hoping for a response soon. Will update then. - G-Map U.S. West review by KoukiFC3S
Don't buy it yet   See reviewer 3 above. Crashes. Crashes. And it thinks I'm off the African coast. Hope this gets fixed!!! Don't waste your money yet - G-Map U.S. West review by Essarem
Simply Awesome   Ignore the bad reviews - most of these are based on early versions before they fixed stability issues. This program works just like Tomtom, Garmin or almost any other major GPS navigation. It does exactly what you expect and want. The only catch is that Apple won't allow them to use any sound - for whatever silly reason.
This is a full featured GPS navigation program. The screen shots don't do the program justice. If you put this in 3d navigation mode, it looks and works just any good turn-by-turn program. Everything you'd expect the program to do is available.
This is the real deal - or as close as Apple will allow at present. I love this app. And it's a bargain at $20! - G-Map U.S. West review by Steve_in_Dallas
False advertising - watch out   According to thier support site the app offers "some" 3D views as well as "heading up" (instead of the typical Google Maps "north up"). Unable to duplicate this function, I asked thier support department and was told that "Our application is only support North-up view at this time."This is the reason I purchased the program, so if this feature is important to you then don't purchase this program. The videos and documentation on thier support site are wrong and misleading.Written December 18th, 2008. - G-Map U.S. West review by jediknight0
disappointed   Very disappointing. I was very excited to get a native map program, for when in the mountains with no data connection. But sad to say this was a waist as the app is right now. The interface is more cumbersome than a tomtom, couldn’t get GPS to work at all, and it keeps putting my currant location outside covered area. They need some major fix’s to get this in shape for the community. But on the positive side, if they get the bugs fixed, and work on the interface $20 is a great deal for this kind of app. - G-Map U.S. West review by leviticus007
Works great..real 3D gps navi   I like the UI design and functions best suited for my new iphone. I also like the clear 3d view guidance and POI search by keyword. It is very useful for location search and navigation guided by gps..not needed wi-fi or cell connection. It also offers scenic and truck route, and POIs and their details.. This is a gps navi on the iphone I've been waiting for. - G-Map U.S. West review by Rachael0929
The new update fix most of the problem. Provide some wish list to make it better.   The new version update has fix most of my issue:1. It has the auto adjust map for the car direction.2. It has much better signal.3. It doesn't crash that much anymore. They deserve the applause for the improvement the developer made.I hope they will include the following improvement in the future.1. Voice for direction. At least be able to say left or right with how many miles.2. In the map when not in the route mode, include the current street and next intersection street in the map. Most of the time, the current street is hard to tell.3. Remember the last route when restart as one of the setup preference.4. For international language, I can't enter other language when hit done. - G-Map U.S. West review by Willie888
RIP OFF!!!   This is an example of FALSE ADVERTISEMENT at it's most pure...This app does nothing that they spout off it will. I contacted their support and claim it's because of apple...It doesn't matter if that's true or not they shouldn't be showing and talking about capabilities that aren't there. No alternate map views besides the standard,,,That's right no 3D which is their only selling point....Unless this is updated to do what they shot their mouth off about it's a complete RIP OFF!!! - G-Map U.S. West review by chameleon1051
Decent GPS software   Except for lack of voice prompts, it nearly does everything you need for navigation. And $20 is a good price. - G-Map U.S. West review by nycnerd
Great update no longer need my Tom Tom   Look it's not perfect. But reading other people's reviews I wonder if they have ever used a GPS in their life. This last update made my routes better, let me know where to turn, and added a nice 3dish view. Honestly if you want anything close to a turn by turn app for your iphone this is the best (and only) product you can choose. I hope more people will buy it and force other devs to get to work on their apps. - G-Map U.S. West review by Quilliam
What I've been waiting for   Great to finally see a real navigaition app for the iPhone. I thought Apple may have killed true navigation apps based on the obvious need and lack of developer responce. This application works well and I think that most of the negative reviews are from the first release before the latest update. I have ideas for improvements below but I still gave it a well deserved 5 stars. Some things I would hope to see in updates:1. search cross streets2. get address from contacts list3. landscape format option4. turn-by-turn voice commands if possible to still use iPod (can use iPod and Nav now)5. drop pin function to input destination6. more POI's (missing tons of L.A. locations) and possibly reviews of POI's7. search full address instead of input city, then input street, then input street number - G-Map U.S. West review by Mike90025
Has potential, i'm sticking with it   The previous posters do make some valid points. I too have yet to encounter the elusive "3-D view". That said it's a good first rev GPS product for the iPhone. As they improve and enrich the features it could be quite good indeed. How much buyers remore can you really have for getting offline GPS for $20? - G-Map U.S. West review by Jaysonic
I like it.   Hands down the best gps app for the iphone yet. Still needs some work. I used to navigate to the local burger joint. Jumped around at first a little finding the signal but settled down nicely. Reroutes very quickly. Nice view. Intuitive search menus. Searches quickly. Easy to save locations. Fast screen refresh. Could use sound. I get a route calculation error on longer routing requests. I would like to see city names displayed when browsing map. I would like to see more detail at greater zoom level. Route setup with multiple waypoints seems to be kinda weird in execution. I'm excited about this app, and look forward to future updates. - G-Map U.S. West review by Mitchelin
unique full navi for iphone, greatly updated   3d map view and heading up view added; fast route guidance without interruption, lots of useful POIs, clear next turn street display along with remaining distance, clear route guidance with quick, automatic route recalculation when I deviate the route, clear route guidance arrow, Now I'm pretty satisfied. The appl has been improved a lot. I strongly recommend you to try. You can even make a future trip plan for the best time for leaving.. And no monthly fee... - G-Map U.S. West review by Ryan888
Needs Improvment   Has a lot of bugs and I cannot see a 3D view? Please add voice command. Without that - It takes up allot of space and 20 bucks down the drain. - G-Map U.S. West review by Texangel
