Birdfeed - A very nice Twitter client - System of Touch
Birdfeed is a very nice Twitter client for iPhone.
FEATURES
- Clean, Simple Design We love the iPhone too, so we made sure Birdfeed feels like it came with your phone. We're as proud of the things we left out as we are of the things we put in.
- Local Caching Birdfeed doesn't stop working when the network does. It remembers your timeline and allows you to catch up on past tweets while you're flying, riding the subway, or hiking on a back country road.
- SMS-Style Direct Messages Birdfeed direct messages the way you think about them: as conversations. It's like using Apple's SMS app for your direct messaging--without the embarassment of accidental public posts.
- Notifications That Make Sense Birdfeed tells you what you need to know, when you need to know it. You'll see unread counts where they make sense--for new direct messages and mentions.
- Refresh Timestamps Ever paged back through a day's worth of tweets and wished you could easily see where you left off in the stream? Birdfeed helps you remember where you were by placing a permanent timestamp indicator in your timeline whenever you load new tweets. Even if you quit the app and don't launch it again all day, you'll have a bookmark waiting for you.
OTHER FEATURES
- Post to Twitter. - View your timeline, favorites, mentions, and direct messages. - Quickly navigate to individual user profiles. - Follow and unfollow users. - Manage multiple accounts. - Post images from your choice of service (yfrog or TwitPic). - Search Twitter (including support for saved searches, hashtag lookup, and nearby search). - View Twitter trends. - Post shortened URLs using tr.im integration. - Save posted links for later reading using InstaPaper integration. - Re-post tweets using your choice of "retweet" style (quote or RT). - Load older tweets using infinite scrolling. - Navigate reply chains. - Find out more about other users using integration with third-party Twitter services such as Favrd and FollowCost. - Log in using a secure connection. 2009 Laurence D. Exceptional app   The first legitimate challenger to Tweetie on the iPhone...this app keeps Tweetie's simplicity and adds even faster load times, caching of tweets and an even better UI. My new default Twitter app - and I've tried them all - Tweetie, Twitterfon, Twitteriffic, TweetDeck, Twittelator Pro - this is the best.

A Few Clarifications   I'm the developer. I wanted to make a few clarifications in response to Andrew Freels' review:- If there are issues with determining follow status, they're problems with the Twitter API, not Birdfeed. The Twitter API folks have been fighting a lot of battles with those exact issues lately.- You're wrong to imply that Tweetie for iPhone has a conversation-style direct message view.- Your comment about doing a blank search to find trends is misleading. You simply click on the blue bookmarks box in Search to bring up saved searches, recent searches, and trends.- You're also incorrect to imply that Birdfeed doesn't cache beyond 100 tweets. Try setting your phone to airplane mode, opening Birdfeed, and paging back. Birdfeed will load up to 500 older tweets out of the database. There are a lot of subtleties to doing local caching of a web service that doesn't support true syncing. We're trying to strike the best compromise between live and cached data we can.

Brilliant Execution   Yes, I'll admit: I'm a sucker for Twitter iPhone clients. With that out of the way, I've been extremely excited about Birdfeed. I've used every major Twitter client and I've liked a couple. None of them get near as much attention as Birdfeed on my iPhone. I've been using it for months in beta and all I can say is that I'd miss Birdfeed if it was to be taken away from me. This was the first Twitter client that brought back threaded DMs (much like SMS) after Tweetsville was abandoned. Since then, my favorite desktop client (for OSX) has added that and promised the same on it's iPhone client as well (that's a good thing btw).I should say that this app is not for the "feature-hungry", "control center-type" or the "dark UI" folks. This is a clean (in every sense) client, with beautiful touches and smooth interface. No more bottom tabs or busy-red badges. *phew*Buzz is an extremely gifted coder and Neven Mrgan is a compelling designer. With those two on the same team, you could only expect great things. Thank you, guys. :)

The way twitter should be   Simple. Clean. Fun. Pick Three.
This is the how using twitter should feel. The interface is very intuitive and easy to use, almost as if it came installed on the phone. Timestamp bookmarking and threaded direct messaging make this app better than the rest.
If you're addicted to twitter and hungry for more, then you need to get some Birdfeed.

Beautifully simple Twitter app   Very nice app with some great design touches. Local caching is nice, too. Great version 1.0 and it'll only get better.

beautiful timeline, but the rest of the app feels cluttered and unfinished.   i've been looking for an app that matches twitterific's elegance with tweetie's speed, and this comes close, but still needs a lot of work. though the icon alone is adorable, and the timeline is fantastic, the cost of birdfeed was not worth this experiment, save yours, at least for another revision.

An extremely focused and clean interface   I like what they say in the product description about being as proud about the features they leave out as the features they put in. That sums it up for me. I use another popular Twitter client on my phone, and while it's also an impressive achievement of design and functionality, I find myself repeatedly "touching" back into Birdfeed when I want to get down to the nitty gritty of keeping in touch with my friends and followees on Twitter.

Fantastic!   I've been a beta tester for a few months, and am a friend of the developer, so I'm biased, but Birdfeed is the Twitter app I always wanted: fast, full-featured, and very well polished. Some things that have made Birdfeed stand out from the crowd for me:- The caching means I can read tweets on the subway, and relaunch the app and see right where I was.- I never find myself having to quit and relaunch the app because I got into a place in the user interface I couldn't get out of. There's another popular Twitter app out there where I find myself having to do this all the time.- Auto-pagerizing means I don't ever have to hit another "load more" button.- Scrolling is very smooth.

Great improvement, still needs work!   Major item missing and not scheduled is a landscape keyboard (unless I'm missing how to get to it). There seems to be a bug in the profile code, as followers/ing shows as 0/0 for some people.
Some questions and feature status are answered at the http:/birdfeedapp.com site. It shows there how to search nearby tweets (I search for tweets with an 'a', which is virtually all of them.). Seeing others followers/ing is coming soon, as it says there. (You can also follow @birdfeedapp.)
Autoload of older tweets is great! 'Last loaded' bookmark is great, as other apps have large holes when you are away for many hours and have hundreds of tweets to catch up on. (Some can't load them at all!)
Needs a way to locate last bookmark, however, as scrolling to locate is a pain. Should have a way to autoload until you are at last bookmark. (But the bookmark feature makes Birdfeed replace iTwitter and Tweetie for me!)
A setting to change between 'xx minutes' ago and actual time of tweet in timeline would also be nice. When you are catching up on hours of tweets, hours/minutes past doesn't work well.
All in all, between what's there now and what's coming (see site), an excellent beginning.

Clean UI, but issues plague it   Nice fast UI, one if the better designed ones I've seen.
But it has issues that make me regret forking over the 5 dollars it costs. Top on that list is the fact that the app forgets the password for accounts (the first account i enter works, all others fail to remember the password).
It'd also be nice to see a landscape keyboard added to the app like most other twitter apps i've tested have.
I could see paying 5 dollars for the app if the issues were resolved, till then I'll stick with tweetie and the thoughts of tweetie 2.0

One Big Flaw   I was very hesitant to spend $5 but took the plunge because of all the great reviews. I am still looking for that perfect Twitter account .
This is a good client with one big flaw. Unless I am missing something, there is no auto login feature. Every time I follow a hyperlink & return to the app I have to log on which is even more frustrating than the login required every time I start the program.
Please fix this & it will get 5 stars. And I won't feel so bad about spending $5.

Nice!   I'd like to see it remember user info and offer more than one theme. Think tweetie in that respect. Needs improvement in those areas as Seesmic is going to bring out an iPhone app and that one has the potential to be really good.

No Trends   Well one thing that tweetie has that is better is that you can track trends with tweetie. There is no option for that with this app

Needs More Visual Indicators   Really wanted to like this App but without a status bar at the bottom and visual notifications of how many new unread tweets I have it's a no-go. I should have realized that from the screenshots prior to purchasing.
