Impressive, yet awkward to use. No instructions and not intuitive The concept is very impressive: have a map like Google maps but be able to view not only top-down but from an angle. This would allow you to see terrain and get a sense of perspective. Some would find that worth the $10 price because it's important in real-estate, construction, and planning.My experience with this product was not entirely pleasing, however. It left me feeling like I had ridden a few too many times on a wild carnival ride with the scenery swirling around me.It is not obvious how to move when in perspective mode. There is no help to explain things. There are no buttons to press. I tried planting one finger on the display and with the other finger swiveling around the first finger. Nope! When I dragged a finger across the display everything started to spin. But I wasn't able to figure out how to change my reference point and then to rotate around that.Buildings were often elongated or squished as they were clearly rendered from sattelite photos. I can accept this as there are no perspective photos available and it is synthesized. But the resolution of the photos in the areas I checked (Seattle/Tacoma) was not as good as Google maps. I couldn't zoom in as far and things got fuzzy. With Google maps I can see individual trees in my yard, with this product I could only see clumps of them.For the right professionals where having perspective maps is valuable this may prove to be a wonderful product. Eventually. But for me (a traveler and frequest tourist) it was a dizzying and unpleasant experience.A better way to navigate and even the most basic clues of how to operate the 3D movements would perhaps solve the problems. Obvious is not a word I would use to describe movement and rotation---certainly not like Google Maps (which I use daily.)Summary: A great technical accomplishment. Stunning application As others have said, it's Google Earth on the iPhone, and even though it has only two or three layers, it's spectacular---really, straight out of Star Trek. Imagery in rural areas around Pittsburgh is actually superior to Google Earth with more high resolution coverage. Really slick, worth every penny of its asking price, and my only gripe is that I will inevitably be losing more money to the "Pro" version or whatever it is called whenever that's available. - Earthscape review by stepleton

One of the best iPhone apps I've purchased to date. Works beautifully. I love this app. It's very responsive considering the amount of data it has to stream. The interface is very simple and to the point. Only a few gestures need to be learned to navigate. As for everyone trying to zoom into their back yard and complaining that it's not crystal clear, I can zoom in to my house at about the same level as in Google Earth. The image is grainier, but I imagine this is to keep the data size small as to not tax the network and/or processing power of the phone too much. I personally prefer the program to be responsive rather than wait 5 minutes for a prettier picture. Besides, you should be searching the world. You should already know what your back yard looks like. Wonderful app. Amazing effort. I bought this last night at 11pm when there were NO reviews. The price concerned me, but after a day of non- stop use I am completely amazed. I demo'd it for a co- worker who promptly got up and drove to the apple store to buy an Iphone. Anyone who gives this less than 5 stars didn't buy it.
This plague of reviewers who dont own the apps they review will become the downfall of the app store if Apple doesn't fix it soon. 48 hours after buying an app, you should get an email asking for your review... ONLY if to actually own it!!!
Great job developers. Razor sharp imagery in the bay area and amazingly smooth scrolling and zooming. Not much different than Google Earth on a FAST computer. Definitely for 3G or wifi though. Like google earth, some imagery is at a lower resolution. Undoubtedly the source data will continue to improve over time - just like google earth has. Not a single complaint here. Incredible Eventually I want topo map tracking but found this while looking. It is absolutely incredible, beautiful, and and intuitive and useful. It looks stable. If it improves over time, great but I'm very happy now. It is a reason to justify the iPhone.That said - some instructions on the support page or app store would be great, and ways to zoom in on a zip code or city like Google can.But really. Wow!!!added: This app does what it is meant to do. There are other apps that track etc. If you need a specific tool this may not be it. This is a globe traveller - I can follow a highway, my son looked at the German town he will visit in November, I can see the glaciers I've climbed in as well as the ones I want to. This will show geology. It is visual. It connects you to Wiki. It won't track (try Path Tracker) and won't find a coffee place. It does what it does and it is great. - Earthscape review by ltoutlook

Install tip for this app Initially encountered less than satisfying resolution at higher zoom levels. Reset my iPhone (press Home button and top-right Power button simultaneously for 5 - 10 seconds until Apple logo on screen appears) and have been rewarded with eye candy. A few more tricks and it'd be perfect. I love it! I can't wait to take it fossil hunting with me. I LOVE the higher res imagery in remote locations of the US that Google doesn't provide. It's smooth in WiFi, it will be interesting how it will work on 3G and Edge.
This is what I MUST have in this app to make it PERFECT:
1. Roads, please have all roads including back roads, trails would be cool too.
2. Ability to mark locations with drop pins like...ahem... Google.
3. Something showing your position.
4. Lat/long in decimal degrees or user selected format.
5. Search not only cities, but place names like cemeteries, creeks, landmarks, etc.
6. Business and people search. Not really needed in an app like this because Google and other apps, but if you had it, this feature would go a long ways towards edging out anything Google could do for the iPhone.
7. Finally, the ultimate thing I think this app could do would be to access USGS 7.5 min quadrangle topographic maps. I would pay bunches for all these features in a full version of this app!!!!!!!!!! - Earthscape review by BluesInHeaven.com
Is this a joke? Good concept I guess... For me it doesn't load detail closer than 500+ miles... I've let it sit for minutes too! The picture popping up are annoying so thankfully you can turn them off.. I'm not impressed with this iteration and I'd be angry if I had paid for it, so thankfully it is free! Also who vets the photos? Why would I want to see people I don't know playing with their kids or pictures of some guys car? There should be some quality control - Earthscape review by Wegmans
Amazing Earth This app, as if the update on 20081017, is amazing. Locate precisely where you are, and add or view georagged photos. Rotate the globe to any spot on Earth. Double-tap to zoom in, again & again & again. Pan or 3-D views, tilt & move around. Search as well. And even links to Wikipedia articles about the location you're viewing. Pretty good, but needs some additional features to make really useful Love high quality graphics and imaging. The 'birdseye' view is what separates this from the built in map application. Really great to see things in 3d. But, it is lacking some functions that would make this really useful. And I am sure the developers are already working on them! One thing that would be great is a 'search' feature like in Maps. In order to find a location you have to visually scan and locate the place you want to see. It is very time consuming and a pain to do. Another thing is some kind of locating feature marked on the map you show 'where you are'. It will show you where you are with great accuracy, but there is no blue dot to show 'you'. Also, it does not follow you like 'maps' does. Good Idea & Responsive Developer Great concept and nice interface. In future versions there needs to be a search feature, bookmarks or pins, and longitude and latitude coordinates. It's fun to play with now but will be well worth the price once those are added. - Earthscape review by VisualSmith

Nice... It is sort of like a crude google earth. I got it when it first came out, and it has made progress. Some things it still needs are:
1. Search for a location
2. Switch to sky( the stars and galaxies) like google earth.
3. Better graphic, faster load times, and 3D buildings
