Best out there - others beware!   This seems to be the golf app that will set the standard for all others. Is there room for improvement, of course - that later. First the good. GPS accuracy on two courses on which I have used the app was excellent, being within a few yards of a $400 golf specific GPS unit. The screens are easy to read, and the aerial shots provide a quick touch-to-yardage ability that works very well. The ability to track a foursome score is perhaps a benefit, I'll see how that plays out in later rounds. Scorecards can be saved and viewed later - you can even email them to the other players in your foursome! and they are stored online so you can review them with your phone. The scoring for a single player allows basic scoring, or advanced - which is the real treat. GIR, fairways hit/missed with how you missed, sand shots, penalties, and putts.... what more do you need! You can also track your shots. I haven't played around with that yet. What is lacking? Nothing really, but I have a suggestion.... Allow for the advanced scoring for at least the app owner even if you are scoring for a foursome. Also if you miss a fairway, you can only make one choice, either left, right, short, or long. I'd like two... (I missed a fairway long/right... since it was more long, that's what I used.) Right now access to your stats is only through the phone/itouch, but I understand they are working on that...A tip for the iPone - not the app: set your auto-off setting a bit longer that normal (if its short that is). That way, you don't have to keep turning the phone on and acquire the satellites....A great, no - phenomenal app!

Outstanding golf GPS app   I used Golfshot GPS 3 times over the weekend at 3 different courses, and it was always within 3 yards of the marked sprinkler heads. The scoring is very intuitive, and it e-mails you the scorecard at the end of the round which you can forward to the others in your group. One tip for those using it that wasn't immediately obvious to me: I often wished I could determine if a hole was a par 3, 4, or 5 by looking at the screen. Turns out you can -- there is a colored circle around the golf ball image which indicates the hole number. Par 3's have a blue outline, par 4's a yellow outline, and par 5's a red outline. When launching the app from a sleep state, it seemed to take 5-10 seconds to acquire the satellite and begin giving accurate to the yard measurements. Most of the time this delay isn't a problem, but if your phone puts itself to sleep often, you might want to increase the amount of time before your phone auto-sleeps. This is done in the Settings app, select "General -> Auto-Lock". Of course, this will also decrease the battery life. I was able to play an 18-hole round on a full charge with about 20% battery life left at the end -- your mileage may vary.

Hands-Down Best Golfcourse App for iPhone   I've used several other rangefinder appliances and devices which cost $99-$499. While they do a good job, this app does all of that; in many cases, it does more. The database of courses has every one I've ever heard of in the Denver area, plus dozens I had to look up on a map and it loads them quickly (sync time is ~15secs) on the initial setup. The scorecard functions are intuitive and very fast - I was able to easily enter score for my foursome walking from green to tee. There are great stat metrics for helping you track weaknesses and improve your game (putts, fairways hit + direction missed, GIR, sand). The real-time to-par score tracking is a bonus there as well. (e.g. after 8 holes my score of 35 w/12 putts is +3 to par). What really sold me on the app being first-rate is how great the touch features are to get range to a specific target, and also how the holes are pre-marked with key landmarks and distances. You configure the app for layup clubs and distances in advance and it uses those as soft targets during the round. This saved me several bad judgement calls the first time I used it and probably saved me some strokes in the process.Or if you want to know how far you are from clearing a bunker from the thickets without searching for sprinkler head covers, yardage books or marked stakes, it does that - just touch the front lip of the bunker and it'll give you the distance. Moving yardage book. How far did I just bomb that tee shot? Touch the golf ball with the hole number at the tee box and beeline to your ball; it'll give you the distance of your shot. There is a little room for tweaking in the app but it is minor - I would like to be able to multi-select fairway misses (long+left, etc) instead of only choosing one. I'd also like to track putting as more than just how many I took, but also if I left it short/hit it long, misread the line, both, or something else like pushes/yips/etc.Combine the on-phone features with the online stats and charts (accessed from the phone only as best as I can tell), the emailed scorecard after your round, and the custom bag configuration all packaged up in the app - wow. This app is well worth the price - it is a great deal compared to other hardware out there with only a subset of the features.

Was skeptical and then amazed   Most apps fall short of what you think they will be capale of. Golfshot did not. Not only is the interface very easy to use and the statistical data interesting, their customer service is top notch. I submitted several courses and all were uploaded within days. When there was a problem with one of my uploads, they fixed it quickly with a great explanation of what happened. The accuracy of the GPS is perfect with a good signal and battery drain is not as bad as I expected This is the most impressive app I've downloaded. Very Impressed

Amazing App!! Cut 3G,WiFi and BT to sbattery.   I just bought it today and used it for the first time. There were also 2 other GPS systems in my foresome which cost soo much more then this and it was accurate almost to the yard.
The only feedback is to make sure you turn off 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth or you will be going through battery very quickly.
Overall it is the best GPS golf program I have used.

BETTER THAN SG5!!!   I am AMAZED! I own an SG5 and it will be on Ebay tonight. The bonus is I'll make 10x what I paid for this app that is BETTER than the SG5. The aerial views are great, scoring system easy and detailed, and course selection as good as SG5! I keyed in my par after finishing 18 and was amazed that my detailed scorecard was instantly emailed to me! I was a skeptic, but now I'm a believer. BUY IT...well worth it and what a bonus for golfers with iPhones. AWESOME job on this app folks...keep up the great work!

wow golf shot   This is my 1st review. I usually do not bother. I had to brag about this. I played a round with a guy who had bought a GPS system and paid over $200. 00 dollars.Mine was just as good only better because I did not pay $200.00. I give it 5 stars.

Unbelievable!!   I was very skeptical when I downloaded this b/c $30 is not cheap for just an iPhone app but then I thought that a skycaddie can cost upwards of $200-$300 so it made sense. I found all 5-7 courses that I usually play around my house and after trying the application at one of those I was amazed at how good the interface is and how accurate the information was. I compared the yardages to a guy in my foursome with a skycaddie and the numbers matched up every time. Very happy with this app and would STRONGLY recommend downloading it (just make sure the courses you play are listed).. Well done developers!

Worth $300!!!   I purchased and used Golfshot yesterday and it was everything I wanted in a portable golf GPS. It showed a static picture of the hole I was playing so there was no waiting for data transfer like other applications. Click on the golf ball icon when you are teeing off and it will track how far your drive was when you arrive at your ball. The scorekeeping was easy. I just made it through 18 holes on a fully charged phone (turn off WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth before you start). This had everything I wanted in a standalone unit and I look at it having saved me a $300 purchase instead of costing $30 dollars. You will be happy with this product.

Golfshot way better than ViewTI   Just used Golfshot today for the first time. Up until today I was a ViewTI user. This app is better than ViewTi in almost every way. I put in a request to add my home course. After a few days (over the holiday weekend) it was up and running. The interface is intuitive and easy to operate. The GPS maps align automatically in the screen unlike other apps which require you to rotate the phone. Having the layup distances is very cool. Measuring distances to obstacles is easy. Scores are easily entered and the stats are great. I had strong signal throughout the round and the GPS was dead on to the markers on my course. This app is a great buy.

Excellent   I use to use the skycaddie 2.5, but after today caddie is heading to eBay!
This app is near perfect! Unbeliveable shot distance options and distances.
It's very quick, great graphics too.
Only used half my battery today, but turned off 3g, Bluetooth, and wifi but had nearly 50% left afterwards.
THE SCORECARD FEATURES ARE A DREAM, and very quick to add your every hole info! I love all of the stats!
Worth every penny! I highly recommend. I had it up and running on my first try, it even knew where I was playing when I started the round today.

Fantastic App   I'm redoing my original review. Still five stars! I first reported that the app would drain the phone battery after about 9 holes, requiring a battery backup device. What I failed to mention was that I kept the phone on the entire time. If you do that you will definately need more power.
BUT! I've played twice now where I put the phone to sleep between shots and it easily survives 18 holes on a charge. That is the trick.
I can easily check email and take calls too without wording about the battery. I still have my backup. Just in case. I'd recommend one of those even when you aren't golfing.
I love the gps, scoring, and stats. The update now will keep stats on all of holders in your group. Not sure if I want to but that can be turned off.
Anyone want to buy my Sky Caddy?

Just as good as skycaddie   This is by far the best bang for your buck when it comes to range finders. I golfed with a buddy that used the skycaddie sg5 and the numbers where basically identical when it came to yardage. The interface is clean, intuitive and easy to use. Definitely easy on the battery life of the phone too! I played an entire 18 and still had 50% battery left. For any seriours golfer out there that can't justify dropping 500 bucks on a single use device, this is your solution!!! I love it.

GolfShot The Best   This is a great application. I have reviewed them all and GolfShot is
the Best. The accuracy of all GPS applications is only as good as the
iPhone GPS system itself, and this one, like all others, can be a
little slow at times in determining yardages, depending on the
availability and responsiveness of satellites. These will never be as
quick as dedicated GPS units, but this one seems to be fairly accurate
most of the time when compared with golf cart or hand held GPS
systems. However, in my opinion, the User Interface and presentation
of GolfShot sets this one apart from all the other apps.
First, the yardage readings in the app are large and clear and easy to
read without having to put on the dreaded reading glasses while
playing golf. This is actually one of my primary criteria in looking
at either an iPhone-based GPS or a stand alone unit. The primary
yardage readout is at the top of the app so I can just rest my iPhone
in a drink holder and it is always easily visible. Even the secondary
yardage readouts are large enough to read without having to pull out
glasses and squint to see them.
The TruePoint Positioning System is a wonderful feature and actually
works well with a friend’s 2G iPhone that doesn’t even have GPS built in. It is very useful for determining the best layup shot on doglegs and holes with other major hazards. And the fact that the app allows you to scroll through a fairway and even enlarge the view is a feature not included in many other apps. The Last Shot yardage function is also simple, easy to use and easy to read.
The scoring system is simple and easy to use while on the fly in
between holes and provides all the information points that a golfer
could want – or more. The resulting scorecard and automatic stats feature are very detailed, though
it doesn’t allow for any data reporting for playing partners other
than score. This does seem a bit odd since the data entry on each hole requires the entry of putts for each player.
The GolfShot Technical Support Group has been very responsive to not only adding or updating existing courses but also to other questions
regarding the operation of the app or to issues in the operation of
the app. Their website also offers a fairly detailed User Guide to
assist in understanding all the available features. As with many apps there are always issues, but in my experience a quick response by technical support to questions that come up is indicative of an app
that I want to stick with.

LOVE IT!!!!   Have been considering buying a golf GPS device for a number of months but unsure about shelling out $300+ for a good make (plus yearly costs for courses or individual course cost to download). Decided to buy this for $30, and if it was no good then buy a 300+ golf GPS system. Today used it for the first time on a course I've never played before and could not be happier. Yardages seemed pretty much spot on (stood on sprinkler heads and was within +-3 yards every time) and the information was more than enough for me (high 80's golfer). If I was a scratch golfer or a low single digit player then a 300+ device may provide additional information that was useful but for me knowing how far to the front and back edge of the green (they don't put sprinkler heads where I hit the ball sometimes, lol) and how far to clear the bunkers was more than enough. I varied between leaving the phone on and also turning the Iphone off between shots and it barely took 5-10 seconds every time I turned it back on to realign with the satellites. My phone was fully charged at the beginning of the round and I had plenty of charge at the end. Based on prior reviews I checked the courses in my area (Dallas) and it covered every course I have ever played and would probably every play, and I play a lot of municipal courses. I'm unsure about these reviews saying it was off by 50 yards, lack of courses, and time to acquire a satellite, it worked so great then I'm tempted to believe these reviews might be written by people working for Golf GPS makers selling them for 300+. I'm really happy that I saved $270, I've had my Iphone for 3 weeks and as long as I own the phone its going to be hard to believe I'm going to find a better application. PS Can't wait for the release of Q*Bert, love old school arcade games currently have Pacman, Galaga, and Missile Command!

Excellent bordering on Outstanding.   Used this for the first time today and nearly all of the features worked. Very intuitive program, the only disappointment was not being able to view the layout of the holes on the course I played, even though the course was supported by the program. It did provide yardages for each hole and the GPS function work very well, but it could not produce a picture of each hole because it said the image quality was not good enough. I have other programs that provide pictures of the fairways and greens, so I'm not sure why it's such a challenge for Golfshot...perhaps something to address in a future update. Other than that minor complaint, I have nothing but praise for the program--I play 18 holes and still had approximately 1/2 battery life.

Incredible software here... MUST HAVE for a golfer who owns iPhone 3G or 3GS   I just downloaded Golfshot today after having downloaded ViewTi earlier this week (use ViewTi for one round) - this software is incredible. The interface is sweet and intuitive... the GPS yardages are reliably accurate.... and the scorecard and stack tracking will undoubtedly help you improve your game. I dare to say, within the same round. Knowing what u are doing well and where u are coming up short in a round is critical to improvement. This app easily lets u see those things, keep your score, and helps you dial in your yardages. This app WILL help you play smarter and better golf... and isn't that the goal....?

Awesome Golf GPS App!   I've owned a SkyCaddie for the past 2 years and this app blows it out of the water! Used it for the first time this past weekend and it was everything I expected and more.
