We have over 2,000 restaurants in the database, all text is in English - we hope our Hebrew & Jewish friends are okay with that until we have time to translate. We expect users of this application to submit new restaurants and modify current restaurants. So we expect the database to grow significantly over time. Please contribute and this will be the best kosher database in the world. Adding/Editing and reviewing restaurants features are in version 2.0. So make sure to add/edit and review your favorite places!
Travel and looking for a kosher restaurant to eat at but want to find the restaurant that is nearby? Now you can, with this Jewish Kosher app for the iPhone or iPod Touch. The Kosher iPhone application will look up the nearest kosher place to eat from your current location, using the iPhone's GPS features. If you do not have GPS or localization on, you can type in a location or a name and we will show you kosher restaurants in that location. In addition, we added a kosher symbols database so that you can quickly look up what kosher symbols are backed by which organizations or Rabbi. Finally, you also have the food blessings and prayers in Hebrew at your finger tips for Ashkenaz, Sefard, Edot Mizrach and Chabad.

Needs to be easier When trying to plan your restaurants, it is cumbersome to have to continually re-enter the city. It would be easier to have a default to the last location. Also the wheel method toenter locations is very slow. There needs to be another intelligent option. Another feature that would help, would be to populate a map with the drop pins of all the restaurants in a given area, with a simple command.

As usual, a great app An excellent app out of the starting gate. Very much needed for kosher travelers. The database is weak right now. Hope that changes with future updates. It would be helpful to have some basic info about the restaurants inside the app (hours, fanciness, price level). Some of the restaurants listed in my area (Chicago ) are open limited hours but their is no way to tell that based on the database. GPS auto locate seems inaccurate. Great App I would like to see a contact created from the selected restaurant. Maps does not add phone #.
Ottawa is spelt wrong at least twice.
It should go back to last location when it is restarted since it could go to maps or internet.
I like the way it works; local or anywhere and the data that is in it.

A very helpful Kosher app This version of Kosher hits the mark and is of great help to anyone eating out kosher. It is at an early stage of development but is still worth the price - and I have only used it in Israel! The app cannot yet differentiate into meat; milk and parve so it still needs finessing. Superb application I thought the siddur was good, but this app is incredible. Every restaurant I have looked up is entered, and once people start adding reviews, this will be better than even being online at shamash.Org. What a start! OK, knowing that this will only get better is amazing! Here are some ways to make it get better:
1. Filter the restaurants that are "around me". This way I can choose meat/dairy/veg quickly.
2. Combine filters. I would like to see the closest meat restaurants that have 5 stars. (being able to choose 3 or more stars is also cool).
3. Once a restaurant is chosen, be able to quickly add that restaurant into your contacts.
4. Have a "get directions" option to the restaurant.
Really, these are just options that will only enhance an awesome program. Keep up the great work.

If you need it, it rocks and will get much better over time For those of us who need to find Kosher restaurants, it is a struggle to use the commonly available "Find a restaurant" tools. That is where Kosher will really shine for us. It has a database that is fairly complete and will get better, also RustyBrick is the type of developer which does not sit idle after developing an initial app. They are already working on adding new features. I know because I have had conversations with them and they plan on doing some great stuff with this product. For 1.99 it is a bargain and an extremely useful app for people who keep Kosher. It has some issues, which RustyBrick knows about, but I imagine will be fixing sooner rather than later.
