Record your path, save it to the web, and share it with friends!
Path Tracker displays the distance you've traveled, elapsed time, average speed, latitude, longitude, and altitude.
On PathTracks.com you can view your paths in Google Maps, export your paths as KML or GPX, and view your speed and pace at every GPS point.
Perfect for recording your route while walking, running, hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding, boating or traveling on any kind of trip.
Path Tracker turns your iPhone into a speedometer, odometer, stopwatch, altimeter, GPS location tool, and training buddy.
Take Path Tracker on your next walk, run, bike, or hike.
More Features: + Turn off real-time maps to avoid data usage and extend battery life. + Saves your path automatically, so you can continue after a phone call. + Choose miles or kilometers. + View normal, satellite, or hybrid map.
Path Tracker works best on the iPhone 3G with built-in GPS. It will not be very accurate on the original iPhone or iPod touch, which don't have built-in GPS. All updates are free.
Usage Notes: * Do not lock your iPhone or turn off the screen by pressing the top button. The iPhone turns off GPS when it is locked. * Turn off auto-lock. In most cases, Path Tracker automatically disables auto-lock while it is running. However, if you receive any kind of alert (calendar alert, SMS alert, battery level warning) and do not dismiss the message, the iPhone will auto-lock and turn off GPS. To avoid this, open the "Settings" app, tap "General", tap "Auto-Lock", and select "Never". * For best battery life: Set screen brightness to lowest setting, turn real-time maps off, turn 3G off, turn WiFi off, and turn data push off. * Reboot your iPhone before starting a path to free up the most memory. After being turned on for too long, the iPhone starts to run low on application memory even if no apps are open. * Click the "Path Tracker Support" link below for more help.
Thank you Apple for creating this incredible platform! 2008 PathTracks.com

Has potential but needs work   Need features:1. Save multiple paths2. Export path data for geo tagging photos taken with external camera3. Export path data to google earth. - Path Tracker review by buckgee
Rough around the edges   I was rather disappointed with this app, and would delete it except that I paid money for it, and hopefully there will be an update coming soon. I tried tracking a bike ride this weekend but it didn't work. Evidently the screen has to be active and on for it to track your movements. Also there is no way to zoom out and see more of the map. It keeps resetting to 100% zoomed in. And there is no way to save your recorded trips or email them to yourself or a friend. This app has a long way to go before it deserves more than a one star rating. - Path Tracker review by Ehullk1
Good App, Watch your Battery   I just got 1.1 and used it twice today. Once walking the dog and once on my 15 minute drive to work. It basically does what it's supposed to. At city driving speed the accuracy is not that great. The biggest thing to watch out for is battery consumption. After walking the dog for about 20 minutes with this app running, my iPhone 3G was noticably warm to the touch on the back. Since it's collecting data the whole time, the iPhone does not sleep. It also keeps the screen at pretty much full brightness. I think dimming the screen would at least save a little energy. The only bug I found is that the route highlight does not get redrawn with screen pans and zooms while it's still running. If you pause the route, go to another app and come back it redraws correctly. On the whole, not bad for a dollar and the developer seems to be updating it faster than Apple can approve it. - Path Tracker review by CupertinoMike
V1.1 Is MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!   V1...was TERRIBLE! V1.1 however is just the opposite! There are still a few bugs, but does EXACTLY what it’s supposed to do. - Path Tracker review by Crockettv
Huge - great app   This does very close to what I was hoping for for hiking purposes. I had a free program that tracked but you had to be on a computer to see the map - no good for the mobile person. For under a buck I have what I need. This app pretty much rocks.Update - v1.3 helped a lot.Suggestions for the future - Use a swipe to get to the data page so the map can be full screen and easier to see. Please include UTM data - much more useful on a topo map than latitude/longitude. - Path Tracker review by ltoutlook
Great improvements!   Version 1.2 is a drastic improvement and works very well for me walking and biking. Not nearly as buggy as it used to be and does what it says it does. - Path Tracker review by Shutterjunky
Lots of greatness! Needs some tweaks   Out of all of the GPS track apps, this has the best potential. If you are looking for a way to save and download your tracks, this is the app.
I bought version 1 of this app, and the two updates have provided good fixes and welcome new features.
One of the best things it does is work when the phone is locked. The others I have tried either stop tracking when the screen locks, or slow tracking way down. I wanted something that would track while in my pocket, locked, and this app will do it.
It allows you to save multiple tracks to their site for retrieval and download. Others either save on to the end of existing tracks, or replace the last track with the current one.
An annoying behavior with this app happens when loading its initial screen. It always loads the location map, sometimes causing apparent delays at startup. This can make you think the app is frozen, especially if you happen to be on Edge or on a bad connection. If you wait, it will work. Be patient.
It would be better if it started on some kind of status page (last track stats, with resume/new/settings options) where it didn't immediately access the GPS and data.
Also, it would be nice to be able to toggle off/on the updating of the map while continuing to save the tracking data. This would allow you to track while out walking but when you don't need to watch the track. It would also save battery because it wouldn't need to use data while toggled off. When you toggle the map back on, then it would reorient and update the map.
Add waypoint capability and you would have the perfect walking/hiking/boating companion.
Overall, I give high marks to the current version. - Path Tracker review by wsdr
nice to have gps tracking on iphone, room for improvement   - gps tracking shows you where you've been. - excellent for walking and biking- would love to drop pins (waypoints) along the way, with notes - oooh:- would love an integrated twitter/flickr interface- would love to share map via email - Path Tracker review by mountainboy
Pretty much bummed out with this application   I'd call myself fairly active. I try to walk a 3 mile path at work daily, and mildly run. I've been a user of the Nike+ product, and have kept track of most of my runs and walks, especially when training for a race (marathon, 10K, etc.).A friend suggested this app to me so I thought I'd give it a try for 99 cents. My main issue:1) I would have to make sure my screen doesn't turn off while using this? Can't you set it so that it doesn't lock (turn off) the screen, or work in a way like the phone works (using the proximity sensor to "hide" the screen)? This option for NOT sleeping the screen is used in the application titled "DataCase". - Path Tracker review by computerninja
Half-baked German localization   While I _really_ appreciate the developer's effort to include international localization, it seems they usually don't really bother finding a native speaker to do it...!? This is just another example where it's more than obvious -- resulting in several weird translations and a few errors as well...! :(Anyway, that shouldn't stop devs from localizing, but pleeeaaaase try to find native speakers to do it...! - Path Tracker review by mangaphreak
Best toy/tool ever!   What a great app. It worked perfectly on 3 walks. Love how easy it is to get info online. It would be nice to see speed while walking and I do like the trailguru screen better. But all in all, this is a remarkable and incredibly useful app - Path Tracker review by Profilewriter
This would be great if it wouldn't crash   Bad crashes when loading program. Had to hold restart button for four minutes to get the iPhone to reboot. - Path Tracker review by TouchMy42
Does great at what it advertises   I found this app to be PERFECT for what I wanted it to do -- provide a relatively accurate path following my movement as well as track distance and speed. I live in Japan, and as maps in English are non-existent and addresses cryptic at best, I wanted a way to be able to provide people with visual directions to our house or other meeting places. This app does this very well. There is an obvious limitation as to the actual map-drawing process, which prevents the app from providing any zoomed view while making the path, and thereby limiting the usefulness of the map itself as you're walking/driving. As the developer acknowledges this and suggests this is due to the accessibility to this feature in the iPhone, hopefully it will be improved in the future as Apple makes Google Maps available to other apps. Absolutely worth the $.99!! - Path Tracker review by DrDunkyn
1.2 is definitely worth buying   I found 1.1 to be still pretty buggy, but with 1.2 we're definitely getting there. My main gripe now would be the short but jumpy delays when pinching and spreading the maps on the iPhone, but this may be unavoidable if it's due to new map data being downloaded each time I touch the screen. Maps saved to the website look good. I'm impressed with the improvements in each update. Currently worth more than the 99¢, and likely to get even better. Congrats to the app's creator -- good job. - Path Tracker review by PalDavidO
This is a Great App   I use this app every day and love it. The last two updates have made it even better. It is the only gps app that tracks you and actually shows the track on a map, not just a big line in space. This app is worth way more than what they are charging. Bonus: You can make Geo Art and submit it. I have tried most of the GPS apps and this is my favorite. All bad reviews are from the first release. This is now a 5 star app!P.S. I made a huge Anarchy sign using this app and uploaded it to Apptracker.com. Coolest thing I have ever done. - Path Tracker review by Bobby1208
Great idea   I have an old iPhone does it still work with my product? - Path Tracker review by Myspace.com/artcore22
Can't beat this app for the money   Update: Just tried the 1.2 version on a trip in Anchorage, Alaska. Even though this area has no 3G coverage the app worked perfectly. It found my position and tracked my hour long walk, keeping perfect track of distance, speed, and time. At the end of the 3.9 mile walk I saved the route to the pathtracks.com website for later review. Upload worked perfect. Some are giving negative reviews, but obviously you need the new iPhone 3G for gps positioning, and you need a good signal. If those two requirements are met I think most will be very satisfied. Additionally, some have experienced issues where the Path Tracker app resets back to the iPhone Home screen. I've had this happen a few times and believe this to be an iPhone memory leak issue. If this happens try going to your iPhone settings, then Safari, and clear your history, cookies and cache. Then reset or reboot your phone. This is good practice to periodically do anyway with the iPhone, but should solve any application reset issues one may experience. At least it works for me. Hopefully, Apple will come out with a patch to solve some of these memory issues in the near future. All things considered this is a great app and does what's promised. I would still like to see a history summary in the main application and additional power saving modes, but otherwise super app for 99 cents.I've compared this app to RunKeeper, and for the money it's hands down the best value. I tested the 1.1 version and it mapped my route perfectly for course, distance, speed, and time. Of additional note, I kept my iPhone in my pocket during my tests and the Path Tracker app recorded everything perfectly, never losing the gps signal. The upcoming version should enable saved routes to be uploaded to the path tracker website. I've rated this four stars, because a few tweaks could make this app perfect. I'd like to see the developer work on power saving modes to save battery life, possibly auto dimming the screen until it's tapped which would bring the screen back to original brightness. Once the run/walk is complete the app could re-enable the original settings. I'd also like to see a history area which would display prior distance and speed info by date. Highly recommended. - Path Tracker review by flybynite11
Ver 1.2 Review   App works great and is accurate. Version 1.2 includes the ability to "sleep" the iphone and it still tracks your path! I would give it 5 stars easily if you could see start and end points, the direction your moving and less crashing. Well worth a buck! - Path Tracker review by uncle boogie
nice app   works for me! the update fixed a lot of issues. (in my case) - Path Tracker review by fluxopi
Real GPS Tracks for only 99¢!   With the latest update 1.2 adding the ability to save tracks online and view them in other apps such as Google Earth and Route Buddy, this is the best 99¢ that I have ever spent. Hope to see Garmin Bobcat and MacGPS Pro compatibility in a future update. Thanks, Keaka! - Path Tracker review by azurerain
