CityTransit is a complete guide to the New York City Subway system. It's the only NYC subway guide that includes the official new 2010 MTA licensed subway maps, line data, a GPS-based station finder and live service advisories.

makes my brain happy ! Ahhhhhh ... I feel so much better now that I can ask my little hand help computer where I am and how to get to where I'm going. Life is so much better with my iphone and with those cute guys at magnetism studios! Gotta love'em! This app is so worth owning ... it's great!

Wanna love the app but... It comes at a good price and with a fair degree of execution but... The maps (though completely usable) really need to be a higher resolution, they also should be able to utilize the double tap to zoom in (currently you need to pinch). Lastly I love the idea of the "nearest stations" feature, but it some how is much less accurate at detecting your position (or at least the nearest stations) than google maps and other programs. Higher Resolution Maps, PLEASE The maps is nearly useless without more resolution.Another review suggests a vectorized version; that sounds like a great idea. If you wanna stay bitmapped, then at least triple (if not quadruple) the resolution. Honestly, seeing the pixelization was really a WTF moment for me. Seriously. This is a glaring hole in an otherwise decently-useful program. Could be better I have a bunch of iissues with this app:
1. As many people have already stated, the maps should be vector files so they look good when you zoom in.
2. There's some flat out wrong information in the Lines section. For instance, it says the end of the G is Bergen, the end of the F is Neptune, and the end of the L is New Lots. And these are just the three lines I checked.
3. NJ transit and PATH should be included. So should maps of the JFK and EWR airtrains. The Hudson River is not the Berlin Wall.
4. They should use better maps than the MTA's. The Kick map, for instance.
5. I don't know if it's because I have a 1G but the locate nearest station was way off. I'm in Boerum Hill and it was giving me Dumbo stations. - CityTransit - Official NYC Subway Maps review by Kvnbklyn
Maps look like crayon I've been looking for something along the lines of a offline MTA map with decent resolution for sometime, itunes however always 'optimizes' my maps toblurry messes, I took a leap of faith with this app and am 50/50 on it. It provides some nice features like train line info but a major flaw is the low resolutionof the maps, zooming in produces a map that looks like it was drawn in crayon. Originally I gave this app three starts, but like I promised I'm now giving it five stars because of the updated maps. It's perfect now! This is a much better value than that OTHER subway guide that was going for $10. This is everything I would need for subways, buses, metro north and LIRR. to clarify After writing a semi-scathing review the first time around due to the low res maps and several careless omissions in the earlier version, I feel like it's only fair to amend my review now that the maps have been improved and the errors have been corrected.For 3 dollars, this is a very handy application. Oh, and for those of you asking for a city layover, the subway map isn't drawn to scale. Distances are exaggerated on the map in order to avoid clutter and to make it easier to read. Just notice how 5th to 8th avenues are wider than all the avenues from 5th to the East River! The call for a way to see where the actual subway stops are IS built in using the Locate Me now feature. It will offer you the closet stop and then once you select it, it opens Maps and shows you where you are. If you're demanding that this feature should be somehow included in the program (that is, so that you could use it when you're on the subway for example), good luck. Horrible I wrote a completely honest, yet scathing, review of why you should not buy this application due to its horrendous, pixelated map, and the Advisory section which is just a link to the MTA's website, but Apple decided in their "infinite wisdom" to not publish my review and continue to rip off their customers by offering this disaster of a "application." A huge disappointment - save your money and avoid. 1. The map is at an awful resolution. When you zoom in you can barely read it.2. Information is just plain wrong! Stops are missing (found this out today when I needed to check something on the J and Z lines)3. This is probably the only app that hasn't been updated yet, making you wonder about the developer's commitment.4. Great app, and THANKS for adding the higher res MAPS Great application, very useful for New Yorkers as well as visitors to the city - single most awesome feature: using the iPhone's self-locating feature to tell you where the nearest subway is on Google maps. Even those without the 3G's GPS benefit; in NYC, the first iPhone can often easily tell you where you are down to a corner intersection, thanks to the sheer amount of wifi and mobile-phone towers that it uses to estimate where you are. And if you've read any reviews of this app, you'll see a lot of people wanted higher resolution subway maps... Well, problem addressed, the new HIGHER RES MAPS have now been added. I gave the app 4 out of 5 stars as I would like to see the 'subway line' section (where the app shows you all the stops on a particular line) be more interactive with Google Maps as well, to show you where a stop is even if you're not actually in the area.One of my favorite apps on the phone - I recommend it to everyone I know who gets an iPhone. As a designer, I would buy it just for the page that shows all the subway line letter-circles - it's just so great-looking. Screenshot isn't of the actual map in the program! Downloaded app, the map of NYC is similar to what you get online for free. What I want to know is how a developer can get away with using a false screenshot?!
