Don't waste your money, get a better one instead   Look up Star Radio app... it's another take on the communicator, except that it has way better graphics and you can make calls with it.

A lot of fun.   I don't mind paying the small price for this app, cause it's a lot of fun to use. I would make two improvements. One; have a gap between each sound effect. Make it so you have to push the button once to hear each one. Two; get some voice effects from the original "Star Trek" characters. Over-all a fun application.

True novelty   So I go to the Imax theater to see the new Star Trek film(by the way, that flick rocks!) and in front of the theater, there's a group of star fleet officers authentically dresses in Trek attire(to promote the film), and I walk up to them pull out my phone with this app ready to go and flip it open. That familiar "chirp" rings out and I say "OK Scotty beam us up!" they all were amazed and got a good laugh. Even inside the theater other iphoners smiled when I pulled this app out and asked about where the heck I purchased it. A true novelty, and for .99 a real bargain when you consider how much money you probably could spend on stuff like this. Like the other reviewers previous, I agree that it would be nice to have some functional use, if even to tap the communicator to link to actual phone numbers just for the sake of hearing the "chirp" initially. In all, it's just great fun. Thanks for the app

Not bad   Thanks for updating the sound. But please update the graphics. It's not bad looking. But it takes away from the feel of the app that the image does not fill the screen. Make it so there is no white ok the sides and make it full screen. Without the signal/time banner across the top. Full screen would make it look better as well as more realistic LEDs. I hope you fix it so it fills the ipod screen.

Not what I was hoping for   I'm glad I only wasted .99 on this. At least on my 1G iPhone, the thing just kind of does what it want's to no matter what button I push. The Voices are not authentic, which I understand as it would be expensive to get the real things. Kind of a waste though and not much fun. Also some of the sounds are not really related to a Communicator device.

Not Bad   Ok, really...it's only a .99 cent app. Why all the angry reviews? Truth is, if your a Trek geek like I am, it's worth a buck. You'll get chuckles from your fellow trek geek friends when you "flip open" your communicator and hear that familiar chirp :)
Only suggestion is, how about selectable voice effects? The random sounds are just silly. Having a halfway decent Spock voice "answer" you would be a lot more fun. A few selectable phrases as opposed to random noise.
Still, graphics are good. Works fine on my iPhone. This app is fine for a buck.
Suggestion: how about "Kirk's Phaser" and "Spock's Tricorder" for future .99 cent apps?

One step further   Okay, how cool would it be if this could be up on your screen while using your iPhone in speakerphone mode????? Not sure if it's possible, but sure would be neat.

Worth a buck if you won't jailbreak   No one should should have to work for free. Not bad for a buck. If you want the real experience, jailbreak your phone and upload the sounds via SSH.

Novelty fun   Fun app for laughs to show your friends how much of a geek you really are. Wish there is more features to it like spock or scottys voices but I think it should be a free app. If you have a buck to burn get it. But if you expect more from this forget it. The flip action is cool.

Can't get it to "flip" open   Not sure what the trick is, but the charm of this app would be flipping it open. Not sure why that's so darn hard to do, but I think the programmer needs to go back and learn a little more about the iPhone's accelerometers. Seems like something that could be fixed in a day.

Nice idea, but not so great.   I gambled on it, 'cause it looked like it could be good for a laugh (and I'm an admitted fan) - and also, 'cause it might get pulled for licensing issues. Unfortunately, NO animation (especially of lid; lights sorta "flash"), poor graphics (it does not get any better than the screen shot shown), and limited sound fx, keep this from being an app I'll use again.
