Good start to a much needed app in a surprisingly empty niche   I'm relieved to have a medical calculator now for my iPhone. This puts me one more step closer to ditching my Palm once and for all. Good breadth of equations to choose from. I would really rate this 3.5 stars, but 1) can't, and 2) hope that 4 stars will encourage people to purchase and thereby encourage developers to use proceeds for enhancements, such as: a. Ability to select English or metric units, either as a pref or within each calculation (in which case the last selection should be saved)--using BMI as an example, currently can only enter kg and cm, but "More info" displays equations in both metric and English versions; b. Ability to reorder equations so that ones I use frequently can be placed on top, since I won't use roughly 37 of the 40--currently are sorted alphabetically; c. More equations--the ones I'd most like to see added are dosing calculators, for pills (X mg/kg/day divided q Y hours = Z mg/kg/dose) and liquids (X mg/kg/day divided q Y hours for a liquid concentration of A mg per B mL = Z mL/dose), and again the units should be selectable (g, mg, mcg, etc)--see MedTools for other platforms for a great example. I'm sure others will have more suggestions. Overall, a very admirable start and a highly welcome addition! - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by DocReader
On the right track   This program is the kinda thing that is sorely needed for the iPhone, but isn't really that beneficial to nurses until a drug/drip calculator is added. I just keep waiting for that kind of program that as a critical care nurse I use on my PDA all the time. I'm so looking forward to getting away from my PDA and only needing the iPhone! Not a bad program though. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Activegrl
Works great, no more Palm!   This application is what I've been waiting for on the iPhone. Having used MedMath and MedCalc on the Palm, I was missing a good medical calculator. This can be set easily for US units (in the iPhone settings screen). So far, what calculations I've needed have been there, and this program adds even more. For example, with BMI calculator, you also get body surface area. With corrected phenytoin for serum albumin, there is an additional tab to press if creatinine clearance is <20. Highly recommended. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by docd9
Great add on for iPhone users in medical field   Remember why the only reason you didn't buy an iPhone and still carried around a stupid PDA while on the wards? Well those days are gone. With the combo of the free epocrates and the addition of Mediquations, you are all set as a med student, intern, resident, anyone! The interface is great and it has so many useful calculations. One thing I really like is that is shows the calculation, because if your attending asks, "Well what's the formula?" you can respond and look like a star. Download it now. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Bubbaloo26
Great program, continual updates   great program due to the constant addition of equations. also the programer has quick responses and is very plesant - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by PRDr
Great Program   I was very happy to find this program. It definitely is a great aid in the hospital. The author of this program is very responsive to suggestions and is quick to update his program. One of the best little pearls about this program is that he also includes the original reference under the info tab for each equation...so you can always reference that if you need more information about that specific equation or its applicability. This is the best medical calculator to come out so far for iPhone. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Dr Emerg Med
Good Start   Just downloaded it so I haven't had time to check it out in too much detail. One thing that really sticks out as something that could really improve it would be the ability to customize a "quick list" of the equations you use the most. Having categories of equations would also be very handy so you don't have to scroll through the whole list or try to search every time you need something. Also having a numeric keypad when entering a number field instead of the standard QWERTY keyboard would be really nice. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by nemuidegansu
Mediquations review   Good app, but all of the formulas need to be set up or have the option to use units commonly used in the USA. Until that is done, this has no use for US physicians or medical students. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by 3crazydogz
Great app   Worth the money even though there is a similar one for free. This app has more calculations and they are worth the little they are asking for. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Spectrre
Needs Some Work   Wish you could enter values without going to a new screen. Also wish some of the formulas were more flexible, eg you could enter pH and bicarbonate and result the pCO2. As is you can only enter the pCO2 and bicarbonate to result the pH. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Peds ID Doc
PREGNANCY CALCULATOR IS WRONG   I like this application, and have had no problems with it other than the Pregnancy Calculator. When you enter the expected due date, the number of weeks she is pregnant as of today's date is incorrect. For example, if you enter an expected due date of March 1st 2009, the woman should be about 14+ weeks pregnant as of September 6th according to an OB-wheel.. however, according to this program, she is only 12+ weeks pregnant. Thats a huge difference and I think it needs to be fixed. Can the creator of this application please fix this in an update? Otherwise its an amazing application!! Thanks!! - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by AMiTdoc2b
Medical Doctor   Great application, this is the second serious medical program after Epocrates for iPhone. Well designed and easy to use, worth every penny. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Rodney Eddi MD
Great Application, Lots of Potential   This is a great day for healthcare providers with iPhones. The program definitely starts to close the gap on any advantage Palm using healthcare providers enjoy. I really like the fact that all of the equations and their sources are provided at the bottom of each page under "more info". What I would really like to see added is a section that has a list of common references, a brief section on various orders/notes, maybe some high points on getting a history and physical exam (including neuro exam). At that point, I might be able to replace a certain spiral bound notebook with rainbow pages. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by T. Scott
Nice start   Very nice start to a much needed app for the iPhone. Now my iPhone is as useful as my old Treo was. I like the option to choose SI vs. US units in settings, but maybe having it in the app itself would be easier. At first I didn't like having to go to a different screen to enter values, but it is so quick it is not a big deal. Would be nice to be able to "back calculate" - meaning: enter the answer and and a few of the values to see what the missing value would be. Otherwise nice work. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by SLCDoc
Friggin AWESOME   I have been using this for months now as a daily reference every update all i can say is wow. was leery about spending the money for only getting a few calculations but when I purchased it and began using it in the ER there is ALOT of things I no longer have to research, would like to see more pulmonary/respiratory equations. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by VENL8R
good, but-   this app is great, but- the same exact thing is available for free. It's called Medical Calculator. Go look it up. I wish I'd seen that one before spending $$ on this one. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by alexroet
Great app!   Good variety and good price. Great for Canadian medical students and doctors. Hope to find updates and more equations soon.......? - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Hoomsy
nicely done!   Needs some work though... Would recommend checking out other med calcs, like the one on epocrates, for example, and adding those equations. Some equations I use a lot, such as Cr clearance, I couldn't find. Otherwise, very nice interface, very intuitive and easy to use! Good job!!!Update: nice updates! have been using it for about two weeks now and its fantastic! thanks again for the good work! This guys just keeps on adding more and more equations and making it better each time! keep up the strong work! - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by drrich
Drderek   This is not fair. I paid over$5 for this app and now it's less than 2 bucks. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by Dr.RICO
Very solid   With the new update this program has a ton of useful equations for someone in the medical field. The more info link also provides good additional information. - Mediquations Medical Calculator review by BrutusD
