In a huge galaxy of hundreds of planets and space stations, you take on the role of a mercenary with the Terran Armed Forces in the fight against the aggressive alien Vossk. After first demonstrating your skills doing some donkeywork, you are quickly lured to escort and combat missions. Captured goods you can use in the trading system to equip your spaceship with dozens of different weapons, shields, and drives.
During the course of the story, which is accompanied by lots of dialogues and animated 3D cutscenes, you encounter shady characters over and over again, offering sometimes dubious, sometimes extremely lucrative missions. In survival mode, you must face a horde of enemy fighters and hang on as long as possible. Every enemy destroyed provides you with points and new energy, while ‘combos’ result in many more points.

Horrible... Just horrible. Well, let me just say that rebooting/respringing my iPhone did not help my problem. What's the problem? For one, it takes 5 seconds for any user input to be registered. Example: I tap on a button, and it takes 5 seconds for the game to know what I did. Same thing when I'm playing the game. I tilted the phone, and it takes 5 seconds before my plane turns.
Go find a different game; this one fails!

WOW. MUST BUY. Just, wow. This game is a 3D space combat sim set in a huge galaxy with a trading game as well.
That's right: this game is the iPhone equivalent of the X series, the Freespace series, and the X-Wing games.
That alone makes it clearly superior to every game in the App Store. The scope alone would merit a purchase for any serious gamer. But Galaxy on Fire not only accomplishes what it sets out to do, it resoundingly succeeds. The 3D graphics are beautiful and very smooth, running at full speed even on the iPhone. Explosions are gorgeous and animated; no static sprites here. The soundtrack is epic in scope, and the sound effects are fantastic. The writing is top-notch, never dripping the ball for a second. The control are dead on, perfect at default sensitivity whether using accelerometer or touch joystick control.
In short, this is the game I have been waiting for. This is also the space sim I am the most invested in playing right now, on any platform. THANK YOU, Fish Labs, for building and selling this beautiful game!! I will check out all your other titles, and support you as hard as I can!

Great graphics, no, posibly the best graphics for the iPod!
Great touch controls ( the tilt controls could use a little work). Very easy to aim with touch controls!

Excellent game, let's call it an homage to Elite This seems like a great game after half an hour of play. The free version is plenty challenging. The setup seems very similar to the good old Elite: you fly from base to base, fighting battles or executing missions while traveling. Like in Elite, you develop a reputation. And like in Elite, you survive by trading and buying weapons and equipment. So far it all works perfectly, and the graphics are fantastic. Eat this, 'touch fighter'!
