Access app for a great product...   1. Of course it's not free, but it's worth the price if you actually USE the information.2. It replaces a chunk of backpack-filling texts.3. My annual subscription re-up is $99.4. You can still use Nursing Central whether or not you renew, but with the amount of drugs released annually (as well as dosage and implementation changes), you NEED to upgrade the information.4. For those reviewers who either gave it 5 stars and trashed it in the text or gave it 1 star and a good review in the text... well, good luck in nursing school.

Graduating Nursing Student   OK, I am sick and tired of people saying it's free but then it doesn't work b/c they do not have subscription. Obviously these people cannot read the description of the app. All I know is that ALL of my nursing instructors use Nursing Central. And I can find the answer before they can! The subscription is well worth the money. If I have pt teaching to do, I can pull up everything I need to say and make sure I get it right. And not to mention the automatic updating--Taber's 21st edition downloaded with no problem and the all the nrsg dx/intervention appendices are on the new version.

Read the description!   For those giving this a low rating. Read the description before you download it. It plainly says this is for those who already have a subscription or you will have to buy a subscription. This has a lot of content for the price. Davis drug guide has much more info than skyscape.

Awesome Product!   This is a professional product for professionals. I had a little difficulty with my installation but their sales and tech staff resolved it in minutes. I've been waiting for this for my iPhone and it has finally arrived. I just can't say enough about it. I would easily fill a milk crate or two with books to provide the references I now carry in my shirt pocket. WELL worth the modest price. Thank you!Bob J.

A Fan   I have been a fan of Nursing Central for three years originally subscribing on PDA. When it died this year, I was thrilled that soon after it was now on my iPhone! Four texts in my pocket at the hospital with my student RN's who are also required to have selected books. The format is improved on my iPhone. Thanks Unbound Medicine.

Nursing Central   I was so excited when the new app. came out! It’s much more convenient and makes my money all much more worth it. It's great for college clinicals to have all the information at your finger tips. It was a hassle when I had to go through Safari to access nursing central. I recommend it to all nursing students :)

Hooray   This came out just in time! One week later, I would have bought an inferior product. What makes me think Nursing Central is superior? There are 4 companies that I know of produces nursing specific softwares for handheld devices. Unbound (Nursing Central), Skyscape, Pepid and Lexi-comp. Currently only Nursing Central and Skyscape are available for iPhone. Pepid plans to release theirs soon. Lexi-comp has released apps for doctors and dentists, but not for nurses.- Price. Although $159 for 1 year may seem to be a high price, it is really a best value for the money. You can still use the app after the subscription is expired. All the other products require you to continue the subscription every year to use them.- User interface. Nursing Central looks and feels like it's built for iPhone, easy to read and easy to navigate. Skyscape, on the other hand, feels like they just repurposed the old graphics from PDAs. The fonts are small and hard to read. Unfortunately, I can't comment on contents because I'm not willing to spend the money on the other products. One more thing, for those of you who had expired subscriptions to Nursing Central, the renewal price is only $99. - Nursing Central review by HelenQ
This a front end to a very useful collection of nursing applications   Like the Skyscape application the purpose of this application is a front-end to nursing reference titles you buy. The subscription buys you a year of updates but unlike Skyscape the titles can still be accessed after the subscription expires. Yes, the subscription seems expensive but you will see you are paying $40 per title plus getting a Medline journal citation guide. This is a good value for a nurse to use in the clinical setting. The days of Palm and Windows Mobile devices are nearly done; the iPhone and iPod Touch give nurses the most useful handheld clinical assistant ever made. I gave five stars to counter some of the reviews of folks who don't read the description or understand its purpose. The included titles are easy to use, follow Apple interface guidelines, and are very intuitive. Unbound Medicine support is top notch. I will be recommending this app for my nursing students. - Nursing Central review by BrentRN
Not Free. Evaluate other choices   Firstly, this application is not free. You have to purchase a $159 subscription. Compared to other options in the marketplace (Skyscape, Lexi, Pepid), the closest comparison is Skyscape Nursing Constellation Plus since content is similar (Pepid and Lexi have their own propietary content). Skyscape Nursing Constellation Plus has all the content that this has plus RNotes (Nurses Clinical Pocket Guide) and Archimedes 360 (over 200 medical calculators). Also Skyscape Davis Drug Guide has integrated calculators and Tabers has images which is a big plus. The Skyscape user interface is much slicker and easier to navigate and smartlinks between content in context and intuitively. And with Skyscape you can purchase the entire package or individual products at a lower price tag if you are not ready to sink in a big investment up front for a bundle of products. Would have given a slightly higher rating if these other choices were not available. Compare, evaluate and then make decision to purchase what is best since price tag is not cheap. - Nursing Central review by Nurse Educator CA
Excellent resource for nurses and nursing students   For those expecting a free app, please read the description before leaving a low rating. Nursing Central is preexisting software designed for medical professionals for use on other handhelds, and the 'free' app is simply the way that Apple and Unbound have worked out to allow users to make it downloadable for the iPhone/Touch. Nursing Central is a great way to bundle a number of often-used nursing references into one package. I was trying to choose between Skyscape and Unbound--Skyscape offers some nice, truly free apps as a teaser, but their iPhone/iPod touch versions of their regular software (which is equivalent to this app) is only available by yearly subscription. Nursing Central has a yearly subscription as well, but the difference is, with Nursing Central, you get to KEEP the products when the subscription runs out, you only lose access to updates and online info. With Skyscape, you lose ALL access to all products, including the texts. This was the deciding factor for me when choosing between the two. Nursing Central also has crosslinking, similar to Skyscape's Smartlink, which allows you to cross-reference between texts. I use this software daily, it's invaluable for clinicals and studies, and also after graduation when you're working on the unit. I gave 4 stars instead of five ONLY because the current system to purchase the product from Unbound's website for the iPhone/touch is rather frustrating--not intuitive at all--but once that's done, registration and downloading of this native app are a breeze, and no problems afterwards. I highly recommend this product, and hooray for Unbound for making it available (and permanent) on the iPhone! I also use Epocrates and the few freebies from Skyscape on occasion, but the texts contained within this product are my go-to references. - Nursing Central review by Circejane
Fantastic!!   This app is great if you have already purchased the unbound medicine package. Now I don't have to carry my palm around. All the same information is at my fingertips! - Nursing Central review by Seka
I'm sorry, "Free" usually has a different meaning for me.   As an emergency dept nurse I looked forward to my Touch to replace my palm t/x. I was glad to see Nursing Central added to the apps list, and listed as a "free" download. I was looking forward to the use of Taber's as well as many of the other items listed. My 1st use however included an warning that I must also purchase a $159.00 subscription to actually make the thing work. In the future let's agree to list the actual cost of an application when posting on the I tunes store web site, shall we? - Nursing Central review by Jfetts
download is free but requires purchase of registration   it's cool if you already have membership (cost of $159?) - Nursing Central review by choosyapp
It costs but its worth it.   As a home health nurse, I've found Nursing Central invaluable! I know it costs $159.00, but it cost that when I had it on my Palm. It is misleading that it says "free" in the App Store. I'm so glad that this is finally available for iphone. I love it now and have for years. - Nursing Central review by Paula G
Great app   This app may be $159.00 but it is well worth every penny. If you bought each of the books that it offers with free updates for a year it would cost you well over $300.00. I'm a nursing student and I would suggest this for any student. All of the bad ratings because of it saying its free should have read the description. I'm a student nurse and I know that nothing is free in life and that you need to research something before you apply it. At least nothing this good is free! - Nursing Central review by jb1600061
Awesome!!   I already had a subscription to Nursing Central on my home computer and used my iPhone's browser to access it when doing clinicals (I am a student nurse). When I realized that Unbound had come out with an app for Nursing Central, I just had to try it! It didn't cost me any extra and so it was a great upgrade for me. Now I have the software on my iPhone and never have to worry about having an internet connection. This is the best software for any nurse HANDS DOWN!! Having paid $112 for the software in the first place, ( do a froogle search for it) I think I got a great deal. I highly recommend this software. - Nursing Central review by Dieselnurse
WHAT IS $159 VERSUS YOUR NURSING PRGM FEES? STUDENTS, BUY IT COZ ITS WORTH IT!!!!   I've been a customer for Nursing Central for my Palm TX for at least 3 years and LOVE IT!! And when i saw that they are now part of Iphone widgets I signed up too!! Its really worth it specially if you have the access with the Ucentral already. If you're just new with Ucentral, $159 is worth buying than carrying all the books around you while assessing your patient. All I KNOW ITS WORTH IT AND IT HELPed ME SURVIVE MY CLINICAL HOURS AND HOMEWORK.. - Nursing Central review by Balot-Lot
MISLEADING - Shame on Nursing Central   This app is NOT FREE and their app description does not state that is is only free to existing members, shame on you Nursing Central. - Nursing Central review by FamPracDoc
Finally!!!   Guys...come one...there is a limit to what should be "free" as far as apps go. I purchased this subscription several months ago after a couple of months of research and d-loaded it to my Axim. When I got my iPhone I couldn't help but think how awesome it would be to have Nursing Central on there so I wouldn't have to take both my iPhone and Axim to my clinicals as I am a 5th semester nursing student...and finally it was available! I d-loaded it immediately and have used it numerous times since...a great quick-reference clinical tool! A WONDERFUL app for a WONDERFUL phone!! - Nursing Central review by RNtoB
One more comment...   I wrote a very favorable review, and forgot to add: Thank goodness FOR the free app. I, too, added it just for curiosity d/t being free, then downloaded the product. Had I not been satisfied, I believe my $ would have been refunded. I would not have known you existed had I not seen the app. Not misleading at all--no cost involved--great advertising--no problem. Those who are unahppy about the app should perhaps look at what they spent--nothing. If they would give it a shot, they'd retract their disgruntled reviews. - Nursing Central review by FutureNurse
