Gym Buddy is the best-looking, most powerful and most versatile workout log on any platform!
Do you really need your workout log to teach you how to do a bench press? No, you just want to record your workout, quickly and easily. Other apps may include a bunch of stuff you don't need, but they don't give you the stuff you do.
Key features include:
- Allows you to edit your sets after you input them. Change the time, note, weight & reps anytime and anywhere they appear. You can move them from workout to workout, or even change the associated exercise.
- Has three countdown timers to monitor your rest periods. They beep and buzz independently at any duration and can even be set to start automatically when you enter a set.
- You can define an unlimited number of Plans for each workout where you can store your goals for that day. Each plan can contain a unique subset of the exercises in a workout and may also be sorted independently.
- Workouts can be sorted into different Groups of Workouts.
- You view your results in a concise, compact format that is definable by workout, time frame, and exercise. With the Calendar view you can view an entire month of workouts in one glance, seeing the date, name of the workout, and your workout volume -- then flip from month to month. Select a day in the calendar and you see all the sets you performed on that day.
- Allows you to email your history -- also by workout, exercise, and time -- for backup and input to a spreadsheet.
- With a wifi connection to a computer, you can backup and restore the database -- so you don't have to worry about the security of your data.
- Shows your previous workout results right on the input screen, so you know what your goal is -- no searching, no tabbing, its just there.
- Calculates your One Rep Max for each set and tracks your all-time best, which it celebrates by flipping the screen and yelling, "YES!"
- Draws a graph of your One Rep Max history for each exercise, breaking down each workout by set number (up to five sets) and also by your best set. Also graphs your Workouts by volume.
- Tracks and graphs your weight, body fat, BMI, and lean body mass, or anything else that can be expressed as a number including body measurements and supplement intake, and also includes an interval timer. No need to buy separate apps.
- Includes a detail screen for each workout and exercise showing an extensive summary of your performance.
- Compatible with Kilograms and allows for decimal weights.
- Allows for supersets, bodyweight, and assisted weight exercises. Cardio exercises can have up to four user-defined data fields.

Great Ap!   Does what it should, no more, no less. This is a great ap. It is simple and doesn't have a bunch of bloated features. Workout - Exercise - Set - Weight - Reps - Timestamp. That is all I need, and this thing delivers. New features keep coming, and even though I've never needed them, I usually enjoy the enhancements. Great work.

You need this app!   This is one of the first apps I purchased months ago, and one of my only apps that I still use on a daily basis. I erased the entire database of pre-defined exercises when I installed it and put in my own workouts. It is so nice to have exactly what I want on my screen in terms of exercise name, notes and previous workout data without having to jump through hoops like you do with this program's competition. You can pick up your iPod, and literally within seconds record your reps and sets. To be clear: this app does not do, nor attempt to do everything under the sun such as track your weight, calorie intake, body fat mass, glasses of water consumed and every other little micro-management waste of time. If you want results, YOU HIT THE GYM, and to that end, this app delivers. No more paper & pencils. This app should be no less than 4 to 5 stars. Yes, there have been and will be bugs here and there, but this app seems to get enough updates to fix them as the pop up. Please don't base your opinion of this app from peope whining about the color scheme, or because it doesn't do what it never promised to do. It does exactly what the description says it does, and does it very well.

i'll stick to paper and pen   I am a gym rat so this looked cool but (sadly) after trying it out: no way! It comes pre-loaded with the basics, such as squat and pullups, but it takes a long time to enter your personal exercises (and mine would crash frequently while editing so I had to enter a couple exercises, close, and then enter some more, or I would lose everything). So I took 15 minutes to personalize my exercises eg. 3 different types of pullups, and then I tried to set up a routine which I had planned out for the next month. 1. add routine, 2. pick exercises and sort, 3. pick each exercise and then enter weight, reps, and sets. I do love geeky and fun things but by the time I got to step 3 I was just worn out. Paper and pen is just a lot quicker! After playing around with this for half an hour I'll just have to surrender and delete the app. Try it if you want, it's just a few bucks, but I can't recommend it to anyone. - Gym Buddy review by SaiSuke fan
PUSH IT!!   This is the perfect program. If you are looking for something to track your workout and allow you to e-mail it to yourself, Without those videos or anything else to get in the way, then look no further. Here it is.I have looked at all the others and was very disappointed. I don't need videos to tell me how to workout. I know that already. I just wanted to track and save my workout information. Gym Buddy is by far the best app i have gotten for my iPod touch to date. Between Nike+ and Gym Buddy, All of my fitness needs are taken care of. I can add exercises by muscle group or even add my own unique exercise. I can leave notes on how to do it, or even reminders to keep strict form, whatever i want. It takes all of 10 -15 seconds to input data and even add an exercise. Easy, clear, bare bones, just like my Gym. I didn't come to talk and watch videos, i came to Work Out, and Gym Buddy came to Work Out too. Keep up the great work, and i'll keep using my Gym Buddy. - Gym Buddy review by alocard
Ideal for Experienced Gym Rats   The previous reviews have it right. This is the ideal product for experienced gymgoers who do not need instruction on excercises (diagrams, videos, etc). The user interface for both creating and customizing workouts is the best I've seen in this category--including previous products on Palm and PocketPC. As others have already pointed out, the product needs a way to quickly view the sets/weights for the last 3 times an exercise was done WHILE IN THE "HIT THE GYM SCREEN." The history page is fine, but too cumbersome this purpose. This should be a very fast fix for the mfr. That being said, this product could evolve over the long term to include some of the features of the best PocketPC products without feature creep into the aforementioned diagrams and videos.- First and foremost, it needs a way to record cardio workouts.- Second, it needs a way to view progress in the form of charts and graphs.Ideally, all of this would be done with a mated desktop PC version THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE IR OUTPUT FROM POLAR HEART RATE MONITORS. Data from cardio workouts could be imported and everything viewed via graphs and charts. Summary: A terrific product, especially for the price. The inability to view the info from the last three workouts from an exercise while in the gym mode makes it 4 stars out of 5. If they fix that and develop a syncable PC version with charts and Polar input like the Pocket PC ones, it's worth $25-50. - Gym Buddy review by IvyLeagueRuffian
Sight for Sore Eyes   I'm very happy that you created this application. I was going to have to do it myself if someone didn't do it soon. I have some suggestions to make this even better and to correct some problems I have found. First, the icon for the app needs some work. It is the least attractive on on my home page....very minor but worth mentioning. Second, there is a "Done" button missing from the Add Category screen preventing new Exercise Categories from being created. Other than those, great job! - Gym Buddy review by kcbee
Excellent Program!! Great Log.   Definitely would recommend!! The Log is Great, with the ability to add excercises and customize your program for each day in the gym. The only thing i would ask to be changed is how close the "edit, the arrow, and the enter" buttons are to each other. Otherwise, Exactly what i've been waiting for. - Gym Buddy review by Slyce2k
I have them all and this is the best   I really do have them all and I have stuck with this one. Some people like pictures for instructions to the workouts but this information can easily be found online or in a good exercise book....Here's why I think it's the best:1. easiest input: when I'm working out I want the simplest way to input my data, no scrolling through wheels of numbers, no jumping from page to page, just a simple number pad for reps/weight2. fastest loading: this is not only because the program loads fast but because your pre-defined workouts are right there for you when you start the app, there are no additional buttons to press or menus to navigate3. best progress tracking: the new graphing of your 1 rep max is the best way to see your progress through your workouts, you can also quickly order your sets from best to worst and there is more information logged about your workouts than any other program I've seen.4. best customizing options: not only can all the workouts and exercises be deleted or completely changed to suit your needs but each workout and exercise can have their own notes. The use of themes is nice too.It would be nice to have:1. a countdown timer for rest between sets2. more graphing options3. the ability to log other data like body fat percentage, weight, etc.4. better sounds5. more sorting options in the log views (for example, the older data is at the top and would be nice to sort by date to the top)Other than that it's a great app which keeps getting better. Thanks! - Gym Buddy review by 101010011100100
Simple yet useful   Really like the simplicity and easy interface. Don't need videos, just a good way to build my routine and track it. This is a very good start. However, I think it needs a simple but important feature. When you record your workout ("hit the gym") it should show you your last workout as well so you know your starting point without having to find it in "history" first. Another way to solve, but not as efficient, is to add an arrow button to the next exercise in the history section just like "Hit the Gym". This will allow the user to jump back and forth between "history" and "hit the gym" while staying in sync with the exercise. A simple but needed feature that would really make this even more useful. I would be glad to beta test. The e-mail option is great. I can send all my workouts to myself in a tab-delimited format and paste into Excel to do any type of data analysis I want. Nice touch. - Gym Buddy review by TexasDetour
Not for gym noobs.   I love it. It has what I need. Only suggestion is a lap timer. Everytime I run a lap I would like for to store the lap time with the total time added at the end. - Gym Buddy review by Nomad81
Useless   This app is good but you can't make a referance list for you to go off of while your at the gym. Why would you input your weight and reps you lifted while your doing it. - Gym Buddy review by mormons=cult
Best Fitness App!   Those that reviewed this early on and gave it a low score should review it agian with the updates. This is the one app that I use every day and it is better than all the other fitness apps and keeps getting better. I have paid up to $10 for some of the others and have tried nealy all of them. This is by far my favorite with the best interface and ease of use. The emailing of my workots into spreadshhet is great (although I wish there was a spreadsheet that worked better with MAC Numbers). Editing exercises is easy as well as entering my own. Th ehistory is also great and the charting is just starting to come. The first round of charting is just for 1 rep maxes, but more are to follow. The ony thing that I think is missing is a stop-watch or rest timer that the developer has assure me is coming. There are no cheesy pictures of exercises or videos that bog it down. Only what you need. I love this app! If this had the stop-watch and better spreadsheet support in numbers I would give it a 5 star, but it is still the best. - Gym Buddy review by newbie2003
Great workout log   This is a great app for experienced lifters. Doesn't waste your time explaining how to bench press. Easy to use and customize. Really enjoy the recent graphing update. Reports your progress or decline for each exercise. All the info you need and no more pen and paper. - Gym Buddy review by Gunnr7
Papers and Books are History   I use this app since the first day it was released. At first it was difficult to setup my own workout took me somtimes more than 10 minutes for each exercise . Now i did it in a few less time. I can strongly recommend this app the support at the workout is amazing helpful. My weight pushes raised much better under control and pencil and books are history now.

Version 1.4 review   The new version has fixed the crashing bug, very quick release. I absolutely love this program, and it is essential in tracking my training. The most comprehensive gym logging program out there bar none. - Gym Buddy review by Tom/impulse
Great Buddy   OUTSTANDING tool; no pencil or paper required! Easy to use for travel, gym or at home to keep you on track with the customized workout routine you design. Has helped keep me motivated to do something everyday, very quick to pick your work out routine of choice for the day! - Gym Buddy review by SeaMover
Very good, could use cardio logging   Very pleased with the workout logging for weights. Great that I can add my exercises and workout plans. Only wish I could log cardio info in also. Like to be able to add cardio times, distance, and even calories from treadmills and such.... since Apple scammed iPhone owners on Nike+. - Gym Buddy review by Steve Gobs
