Beware of "Sponsored" Messages   I just downloaded this app yesterday. Today, I used it to contact my boss via MSN, and it started sending him random messages like, "This service sponsored by Fring", and "You can use this service for free too" (that one isn't a direct quote; but captures the essence).
The ad messages would get tacked on to the end of my IMs, separated by carriage returns. Unfortunately, the line feeds would push my IM off the screen. My boss had to scroll up to see what I wrote.
Meanwhile, I have no idea this is happening since Fring doesn't bother to notify me about it. The only reason I found out was because my boss said, "Hello Fring", and I thought, "How the hell does he know I'm using Fring?" That's when he said, "Your service is spamming me."
This app may have some great features, as many other reviews indicate; but sending unsolicited spam IMs without notifying the sender is poor business and extremely unprofessional. I apologized to my boss when I got in for the incident. I shouldn't have to do that because of an IM client.

We should ask for Voip using Edge or 3G   We are paying AT&T 30$ per month for unlimited internet access, so, we should be able to use our internet acces for Voip too, this AT&T policy of banning this, is not fair and we should fight with them, they are getting our money for "unlimited internet" but they are actually limiting it, I am really disappointed with AT&T unfair practice, please lets do something, to make them respect our rights to use our internet connection as we wish.....

Good app, but a few bugs   Fring is a great app. I finally have a way to get in touch with Skype contacts on my phone. There are just a few bugs to work out. When you run for the first time and register for an account, Fring says your e-mail address is not valid if it contains periods anywhere in the first part of the address (before the @). Thus, the specific format it looks for needs to be refined to reflect what is actually allowed in an e-mail address. Also, when signing up for an add-on service and typing in your credentials, Fring needs more error handling. As an example, I mistyped my Skype password and instead of telling me that my password was wrong, it continued to spin the spinner graphic and continued telling me that it was adding the service. I had to stop it myself. As far as the UI goes, Fring is great but in the text boxes where it asks for user names and e-mail addresses, it should disable the automatic capitalization of the first typed letter. This is a toggleable option when building the UI, and for things like e-mail addresses and user names, it makes sense.Lastly, the icon needs a lot of work. Plopping logotype and the logo on a white background does not constitute a good icon. The full icon as it appears on the phone essentially states the name of the app twice, which is almost insulting. Remove the name from the graphic -- the text that appears below every iPhone icon will tell users what its name is. Do something fun with the icon itself; it doesn't need text. When placed on a screen that's full of other colorful, non-redundant app icons, Fring sticks out like a sore thumb. Please consider doing something better with this icon -- it's the first thing every user will see before they run your app, and it makes a big difference. All in all this is a good app, it just needs a tad more intuition and slightly more adherence to Apple's human interface guidelines and it'll be a winner in my book.

Using Skype on the 3g iPhone   I was very excited when Fring was finally made available on the app store. I had a lot of problems getting this thing to work for the first time so here are a few tips to make set up and use a little easier:- Setting up account for the 1st time: this is to set up Fring, I initially tired to use my Skype ID and it kept rejecting me. Create a new account ID on your phone then add all your log in information for Skype, Yahoo IM, MSN, etc...- Must use Wifi network when making calls won't work using Edge or 3g. - Dialing US numbers: Need to put 001 before all area codes: - Dialing Overseas numbers: Need to put 011 before all area codesThis should help you get started. Still testing it but it looks like this is going to work out great.Regards,SETO

Incoming cell calls disconnects iPhone Fring calls   At this point using Fring on the iPhone is not really a worthwhile option unless you have NO cell signal and have WIFI. I have been testing using my SIP and Skype (Skype = having to add manually a +1 to all calls made from my contact list for it to work)But the biggest problem is when a cell call comes in and Fring is closed out for the phone to ring. No warning and no options. :-( I am pretty sure this is not a Fring issue but if there is anything that can be done to not allow the cell call to take over would be great.! (send to voice mail while Fring is active ??)At this point this is a great feature enhancement to the 2nd Gen iPod Touch. But not really a worth while solution for iPhone users unless you don't mind being disconnected without warning while talking on VOIP. :-(

Doesn't run in the background!   I was waiting for this to come out! Glad to see it made it's way to the App Store. Personally, my main complaint is that fring doesn't keep you signed in when you have other things to do on your iPhone. It would make sense to have fring running in the background so that you can still receive IM's when you're not in the application; and have an 'exit' button when you want to sign out entirely. Hope to see this happen in the near future.

Com'on now, no periods allowed in the email address field?   Almost all my emails I use have a period in it before the @ symbol. But somehow this is a problem with fring's registration screen which constantly nags me about my email address not being in a valid format! What gives? Once they fix this bug and actually allows me to create an account with an email with a period in it, I will come back and revise my rating...

SkypeOut Delay   I just download it today (10/3/08), and I am trying to use it with skypeoutwhile skypeout works (make sure you add "001" before the area code if you are calling US numbers)for some reason, I need to wait about 5 min after I start the program for my skypeout to work, even though the program confirmed my login maybe the network is too busy today? I hope they will fix this soon

It works!   Man I am loving this application. It seems to be working well. To the person that said their skype out call was failing, it was doing that with mine, but when I dialed the full number with the + sign, that did the trick. You have to dial out like you do with skype, not like you do on your cell phone. It even rings for skype in call. This is the perfect app if you travel and have access to wifi. I give it 4 stars as a first effort. Things I would like to see is ability to check skype voicemail and I would like to be able to use my bluetooth headset, though that might be a limitation imposed by apple.

Promising but not quite there   Test called people around the US on both cell phones and land lines and all report not being able to hear my voice clearly. There is a distortion and compression on voices and a couple of calls experienced severe latency characteristics. Hopefully they will get these issues ironed out soon! A good start, but not ready for primetime.

Skypeout doesn't work   I've tried every combination of ways to make a skypeout call - +s, 1, 001, etc -and nothing works. Calls terminate immediately. I love the concept but that's pretty sad. How did this app make it into the wild with such a major bug?
