Simplify. We're making it easier to stay in touch with all your friends – regardless if they're on Facebook or Google Talk, just tap and chat. We've also replaced the Contacts tab with type down search. When sending a new IM, just start typing and we'll find all your contacts on your iPhone. Lifestream will let you post your status to Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Lifestream with one tap. Now chatting with your Facebook or GTalk friends is as easy as using AIM.
Features include:
• Chat directly with your Facebook and Google Talk friends
• Yay! Landscape Keyboard
• Send FREE* text messages from AIM, just type in your friend's phone number!
• Update your status on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Lifestream with just one tap
• Add a location to your AIM status and check in simultaneously with foursquare (add foursquare to your Lifestream Settings in Preferences)
• All your Facebook friends and groups will be available in your Buddy List
• When sending a new IM, type down search will now find contacts in real time!
• Post your photos to your Lifestream (up to 40 at one time) or comment on your Buddy’s photo or status
• Send and receive messages over Wi-Fi, EDGE, or 3G networks*
• See who's available before you contact them
• Configure multiple screen names and switch between identities any time
• Send IMs and SMS text messages* – even from an iPod touch
• Take pictures with the built-in camera to use as your Buddy icon
• Manage your Buddy List®, Buddy groups or add a new Buddy anytime. Your changes are automatically synced with AIM on Windows or Mac®
It's easy to get started. Just sign in using your existing AOL/AIM, Facebook, .Mac or MobileMe name, or register for a free screen name right from your device.
Any service can send messages. But with AIM, you're really connected.
AIM for iPhone (Free Edition) is ad supported. To use AIM without ads, purchase AIM on the App Store – just look for the purple icon (where available).
* iPod touch only supports Wi-Fi; SMS notifications require an iPhone with a wireless data plan and charges from your wireless carrier may apply. SMS features are not available in all countries 2010 AOL Inc.

Needs work   This app is well on it's way to being a staple on everyone's iphone, but as it stands, it's rough. Lots of crashes for me, as well as receiving blank IMs while not in the application. Also, no sign out, and it doesn't sync with address book to show real names instead of screenames, which was a feature I believe they had mentioned when showing off the app. It'll get there, but don't expect much right now.

Doesnt really work as it should.   Since no one has taken the time to give a review of the product I'll go ahead and give a quick one. The product really isnt that good. Yes it's nice that its native and you can at least IM while on the iphone. However, if you do not have the program up on your iphone it doesnt give you alerts that you have an IM. If your phone locks it will disconnect you from the AIM service. This should function exactly like the SMS service does. I should be able to sign in to AIM and get IMs no matter what other app I am working in or if my phone is locked. I hope this gets improved.

It's good, but needs improvements   As with everyone else, I was excited to see a native AIM client come to the iPhone, finally. That was my biggest gripe when it first came out and the one thing I was looking forward to in 2.0. Sure, it "gets the job done", but there are two things that really need to be fixed.PUSH NOTIFICATIONS - Yes, I understand that the iPhone doesn't have true background processes, and this is partially the phone itself and not the application, but 15 minutes too long to check between messages. The point of having a mobile app like this is so that you can be reached whenever.CONNECTION ISSUE - It seems that if I am not active for 5-6 minutes, I am logged off. This also goes with the 15 minute thing for messages, if I'm not logged in for that long, how am I supposed to get them? (I am interested in knowing if this happens to anyone else, so if you have input on this subject, please contact me @ whereswegoh on AIM)I'm sure these issues will be addressed in the coming weeks, though I am kind of waiting to see if Adium will put out their own application.

Worked for 5 minutes   I installed AIM this morning, and it worked great for all of 5 minutes. Now every time I launch it, it immediately crashes and I am returned to the home screen.

Nice, but needs a few tweaks   The Aim App is great, but could use a few tweaks to really be useful:- PUSH NOTIFICATIONS- I don't like that I have to have the app running to see new messages. With the newly implemented Push notification service being made available to developers, I would expect this functionality. The same problem exists with the Twitteriffic App, so maybe the new features weren't made available in time for launch day, but will come in a future update.- PREFERENCE LOCATION- The preferences for the Aim App aren't located within the app itself, but instead are located in the Settings for the iPhone itself. This is confusing, and is obviously a problem. If you note another review of this app- one reviewer already thought there was no way to change his/her screenname after mistyping, and couldn't find the preferences so had to delete the app and redownload it.The functions of the chats and UI are great. A few tweaks and this will be one killer App for the iPhone!

Weak!   If you have been using either Meebo or BeeJive to IM on your iPhone...stick with that! Poor interface, no multiple users ability, no log out, etc etc...all the downsides people have listed are valid. If there was an option for NO stars...that's what I'd give. Back to BeeJive!!

Great 1st version...some minor kinks   Great first version of this iPhone app! Very simple interface and IMs are instant...just like if using the desktop version...even if on EDGE.No support just yet for getting IM notifications when you leave the app running in background. But, that supposedly is coming later this fall. At least for now, unless you sign out, when you return to the app, your IMs will be there waiting. You can set an away message so to let ppl know you won't reply instantly. If you want to change your screenname, you will have to go to the iPhone settings. Also, I wish there was a setting to turn off incoming IM sounds. Plus, vibrate is on when you get the initial incoming IM or not in the active IM section. Not a way to turn sound or vibrate off right now. If you "minimize" AIM and you have IMs waiting for you, be prepared for buzzing and that standard AIM sound (repeatedly if you have multiple IMs waiting).

AOL made a good application ?   Just experimenting with the AIM aplication I am amazed on how well built it is. One of the best options is the ability to send IM's via text message. Instead of giving ATT 10 more dollars more of my money I'd rather use AIM to send texts. I know its not a solution for everybody, but it works for me.

Apple shafts us by not allowing apps to have background support.   Since Apple didn't allow the SDK users to make apps that could run in the background, they created a fatal flaw for apps like AIM. You're only signed in and only get notifications of IMs when you're actively using the app, and when you go to the home screen, you are signed out. Way to go, Apple. Hopefully they will give developers background support in the near future (a concern he mentioned at WWDC).

Please also allow email notification when a new message is recieved   Please also allow email notification when a new message is received I don't pay for SMS, and do not want to get changed to know I have a new message, but I would however instantly get an email. Please add this as an option (if anything, it would be cheaper for AIM to send an email notification then an SMS notification)If you agree with this, please mark that you found this review helpful so it will move up and be noticed

Needs to have alerts   This app is decent but it does need work. It needs a sign out button( right now you need to go into the main settings, scroll to the bottom to the AIM icon and change the sign out settings there). Biggest issue for me is the alerts. I don't want to keep checking into the application to look for recent IMs.

So far so good.   This aim application is honestly what I was looking for from the introduction of the iPhone. And now it's finally here. The only thing that bothers me is that you won't be notified of incoming IM's unless your within the app itself. If your're on your iPhone's homescreen, it doesn't show that you have a new message. Very neat and well done though nonetheless.

Love this app   It has a few bugs still, and Apple has yet to implement the push notification feature yet, but it's off to a great start. Little buggy when switching between Wifi and Edge, but again, not bad for a 1.0 app.
