RunKeeper Free - FitnessKeeper, Inc.
RunKeeper uses the GPS technology found in the iPhone to track your fitness activity, giving you comparable results to an expensive GPS watch at a fraction of the cost. Now, you can also enter your activities manually, including your treadmill runs too! The intuitive and easy-to-use interface of the app makes it easy to track how far you went, how long it took, what your pace/speed was, how many calories you burned, and the path you traveled on a map.
Once your activity is completed, the data is synced to the RunKeeper website (www.runkeeper.com) where you can view a history of all of your activities, and cumulative totals of all of your vital stats. You can also share your progress with friends by posting your activities to Facebook and Twitter, and creating a profile page that allows people to view all of your public activities.
Features:
* Activity Tracking
No need for an expensive, standalone fitness tracking device when you can use your iPhone 3G or 3GS to do the same thing. Now you can track how far you went, how long it took you, and the route you traveled right from your iPhone
* Personal Dashboard
Store all historical activities on runkeeper.com, where you can keep track of totals and monitor your progress
* Maps integration
See the exact path you traveled on a map, both on the device and on our website
* Activity Sharing
Share your activities with friends via email, or by posting them to your favorite social sites, including Facebook and Twitter
* Music
You can listen to the iPod during your activity, and even change tracks without leaving the RunKeeper application
* Manual Activity Input
You can enter activities manually, including runs done on a treadmill or without your iPhone
Please Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Good app - but NO iTunes - hence useless   It's a great app, but it cannot be used together with iTunes. Big big bummer!!! I really need music so this app is useless for me. Hope the developers figure out a way to do that. For now, I uninstalled the app ... :-(

Great app, even greater potential   This app accurately mapped a 1.5 mile test run I just did, so the mapping and distance measurement was not a problem. I loved that it automatically uploaded the info from my run as soon as I was finished. The web-based history tracking is very cool and I look forward to using it to watch my running times improve. A feature I would like: Ghost runner (race against my best previous time with audio cues - would upgrade to pro for this).

Way Cool   I have the free version. It works great. I ran in a five mile race and the display at the end of the race was 5.00mi. It does not get much more accurate than that. I really can't say enough good things about RK Free. It is the kind of APP that makes having an iPhone so great. It is both useful and way cool at the same time. I like the program so much that became a RK fan on Facebook (I suppose the fan thing was a bit much).

Runkeeper review   Love this app. Start it, run, forget about it, run is tracked. GPS has been great. Like the simple web site that tracks everything. Also has a simple setup for posting through twitter onto FB.

Big fan   Very easy to set up and use. Agree w all the reviews. I also like the website to view run summaries. I would recommend a lap button, not just a start/stop and pause, but otherwise perfect. Any runner will love this.

Best fitness app I've 'run' across   Not only is this a great app but the website is pretty well put together too. Little tip: turning off wifi and changing the settings to medium accuracy helped greatly.

Love it!!!   The people who are rating this app poorly must live/run in areas with poor gps reception! It tells you before you begin how strong your signal is. I love that it gave me such a detailed report of my run including time splits and elevation withing the splits, pace and a mapping of each mile of my workout. This app is really going to help me get back into shape!

Easily the best app out there   I really like RunKeeper. Liked it enough that I purchased the pro version. I have a few thousand words review comparing this with other applications here. http://bit.ly/Zc3U. - It is developed by a runner, so the features all have a nice touch that gears it towards runners. For instance, the lock button turns over the screen so when you are using an armband, you can easily read the stats.- The fonts are big and nice and easy to read.- Their customer support is phenomenal. I usually ask questions through twitter at @runkeeper and I get a response within minutes.- The only 'failure' I had with this after about 20 runs is on a very very very cloudy day when iPhone GPS did not work. NONE of the other GPS apps worked as well, so it was not limited to RK.- The software evolves continuously and RK team is very receptive to your suggestions. Any gripes you have might be addressed sooner than later.- Those who have problems with GPS connectivity, please check the RK forums for suggestions. In many cases, turning off WiFi would help a lot.In short, I have spent 100s of $ for software that I use regularly, but RK Free and Pro have given me the best bang for the buck out of ANY software I have used, iPhone app or not.

This update makes this a great app   I have only used this program once, but the info it gave me was extremely accurate. The route was right on, and the pace was probably pretty close (though I thought I was running a little faster, I guess I wasn't :P) READ THE INSTRUCTIONS before your first run, if you don't follow the directions exactly, you probably wont get good results. Yes, this did kind of drain my battery, but worth it considering the alternative is a $400 GPS watch. Definitely satiates my need for lots of running stats, and map! Uploaded to the website and displays perfectly. Very excited.

Forget the Garmin   I used this app back when there was only a free version, but it's still just as good and continues to get better all the time. I recently used this app snowboarding in Colorado and it worked great tracking every slope I went down showing my speed with the elevation. My iphone did run out of battery towards the end of my day but luckly the app priodically uploads the data to the web so my day was not lost.I've used this skiiing and running so far and have plans to use it biking, kayaking, and hiking.Thanks for a great app!

Awesome gps app!!!   By far the best gps running app out there. Also, this is the only gps app that lets you put the iphone to sleep with the phone sleep button (as long as you have itunes playing, it won't stop tracking your run.)I originally purchased a garmin forerunner, but promptly returned it after a few runs with this. Would love to see calories and photo options ( as mentioned in other reviews)and can't wait until the pro version is released.

Buggy   This app is really annoying. If I start a song before running the app, it puts the song on endless repeat. You cannot change the song mid-run or it pauses the app. The app also pauses in the middle of a run for no apparent reason. It has done this 2 out of 4 runs I have attempted using RK and it is extremely frustrating. Fix the bugs before you ask people for money.

They lied...   They told past paid users we would get access to the updated paid app. They lied. New free app keeps quitting after the many commercials. - RunKeeper Free review by T1906
This App works Really Well ... Supports my Data Obsession   I have used RunKeeper Free for about 4 weeks and it works really well in our 3g poor area in the heart of Silicon Valley - go figure. I run all over this regional park next to the SF Bay including hills, dirt and paved trails. Even though I've had it cut it, it never loses the route. I like the web based storage and I like the fact that the developers are busy with a new version, taking in requests from their growing base. I plan on upgrading to Pro when the next release comes out since now I'm hooked on all the good data it provides. - RunKeeper Free review by Pben
Gee   Ok, I paid for this, but now it was turn into lite, not going to pay again to get pro because I had bad problems like no data, GPS would start some two away draw a straight line and add it to my 5 mile run. But the good thing about this app, it made me look for another and I found the best one, RUNNER , once you used it and figure it out you will love it, don't ease your money on this one - RunKeeper Free review by Danewill
Love it   Downloaded runkeeper and used it today. Totally love it. Had been looking at a garmin but after buying iphone decided having everything I need in one device is great. I love this app - RunKeeper Free review by Scubanstr
