1Password for iPhone reviewed by Users

re 1passuser's "HUGE SECURITY HOLE" "review"...  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
This 'reviewer' seems to be talking about the desktop app, rather than the iPhone app... and has not even bothered to look at the preference settings, and so has written a 'review' that asserts a total falsehood. The review is just wrong! The preferences in the desktop all include the following non-exclusive options (don't think I changed my defaults, but not positive), so the 1Password app will lock when any of these occurs... 1) Lock after X minutes of inactivity (mine is 20 minutes); 2) Lock when sleeping (mine is checked); 3) Lock when screen saver is activated (mine is checked); or 4) Lock when 1Password and all browsers are closed (mine wasn't checked, but it is now!). If they had bothered to look at the preferences they might have understood that there is no "security hole" here... A classic case of "user" issues...Re the iPhone app, 1Password is definitely not accessible from the built-in browser, as it has its own browser that is completely separate, and you can only run it once you've put in your 1Password PIN, AND entered the strong password (assuming the login entry was in fact password protected, as that is not required)...I find the combination of the desktop app and the iPhone app to be very nearly ideal... I just have to remember to sync them up every so often to keep it all in order. The only potential 'flaws' I'm aware of (as of v1.4 iPhone app, v2.9.15 (build 7435) desktop app) are that (A) certain wallet entry types (passport in particular) have values that do not display in either app unless you are in "edit" mode... the values are apparently still there & syncing, but not visible... and since you cannot (now) 'edit' the passport entry type on the iPhone app, you're stuck without those unless you also enter them in the 'notes' area too... they are apparently working on a fix for this and a larger update... and (B) I wish there WERE a way to invoke 1Password logins from Safari on iPhone, of course with requirement of entering the master password... I doubt this will come to pass unless Apple opens up their APIs and/or allows more across the barriers between iPhone apps.Overall, I'm a very happy customer (desktop app Family Pack, iPhone app on both of our phones). I only wish I could get a version that would run on my office PC so I would have integrated access (have to use my iPhone app now when at work)... - Version 1.4 - May 7, 2009 - 1Password for iPhone review by Right-ho
Easy interface, great auto log in, syncs well with mac, but have 3 recommendations  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
Compared to a number of other password apps I have tried, 1Password is easy to use on both the iPhone and desktop. I have used SplashID on a number of platforms, including the iPhone (and desktop), but the auto log on with 1Password is a definite plus and this feature has worked without major issues. There is a double layer of password encryption, if turned on, and this level of protection is excellent. Syncing with the desktop version via WiFi is a charm; I have had no issues whatsoever. And I did not lose any data when I upgraded to version 2.9.7 (today); the upgrade was seamless. If this is a concern, just copy the backups (Library>Application Support>1Password>Backups) to another hard drive or memory device. Finally, adding login passwords from the desktop is extremely easy whenever you visit a new web site and enter the info for the first time. The program asks if you want to add the password info into the 1Password program, and the next time you sync with the iPhone, there it is. I do recommend the following in an upcoming revision:1. Allow the user to edit/change/delete fields, especially in the wallet entries. This is what I like best in SplashID, as I want to tailor the entry fields to my records. I leave most of the fields blank in 1Password and have to put them in the notes field. However, I would prefer to use custom entries for all of my investment, personal, membership, frequent flyer and other records.2. If there is a phone number in the record (i.e., wallet field), pressing on the phone number should immediately dial that number. Right now, I have to remember the number, close 1Password and then dial manually. Again, this is a really, really nice feature in SplashID but not in the current 1Password version.3. Although not a show stopper, it would be nice if a web address can open the browser from a wallet entry.Other than these three items, I am pleased with the program. I switched from SplashID to 1Password but have not eliminated the SplashID program just yet as I await future revisions of 1Password that will (hopefully) satisfy my remaining needs. When these come through, a 5-star rating will be easy to provide! - Version 1.4 - Jan 3, 2009 - 1Password for iPhone review by  myPins
Good Password Keeper - waiting for update...  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
I love people that write reviews before actually using the product... After using the product, here is my review:The first thing I did was install the iPhone app. I then upgraded my 1Password desktop app to the latest version (and clicked check for updates again just in case) and I was ready for some hot iPhone password sync action. Thing is, there was no Sync to iPhone link on the desktop app. Hmmm... It said v2.7.2 was the latest version, what gives? Needless to say, things came to a screeching halt. Doesn't work as the desktop app hasn't been updated. A quick note about all these reviews written before mine - if the desktop app update hadn't been pushed yet - then how were they able to review the product? Hmmm.... Moving on... After writing up a nasty review of the product, since I assumed the update would be coming eventually, I updated my home laptop. This time however, right after I was prompted to update to 2.7.2 and restart I was then prompted to update to 2.8.1! Hey now... Needless to say, the missing functionality had arrived.I sync'd my home laptop with the my1Password web service (it's great btw) and then sync'd my office laptop so they were both in sync. I then sync'd my iPhone with my laptop using 1Password for the iPhone and it worked great. Note, you have to manually change each entry to Pin Code protection (4 digit #) otherwise you'll have to enter you master password each time (which is default for each entry and the right design decision IMHO).Anyway, it works great as a password keeper, but unfortunately not so much as an automated password form filler. To test, I clicked on some of my saved sites on my iPhone. 1Password for iPhone automatically jumped to that site - in it's own web browser so it retains control (and security?) - but it didn't correctly fill the form. I find it hard to believe this feature flat out doesn't work, but I tried 3 different saved sites and it failed all 3 times - since I'm not paid to debug their software I didn't investigate further. In summary, it works well as a password keeper and that's what I mainly use it for. In addition, it's currently free for 1Password users - since I'm not paying any money for it I don't mind recommending it to others despite it's flaws.-V - Version 1.0 - Jul 29, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Vito R.
Disappointed  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
First of all I love the desktop app. Great application to save all of your logon and secure information. This app allows you to access this information on your iPhone. However it is not a seamless process. If I want to use any login information I have to use Agile's browser, not Safari. This means if I log on to a website I'm only logged on through the special browser and not Safari. So when I exit out of 1password I'm out of the site I logged on to. This is very annoying as I have to switch back and forth between the two browsers. If I get redirected from an email to Safari I can't access my passwords. If I'm in 1password I cant save a bookmark (or use the keyboard but that's getting fixed in 1.1.1). The also got the web 1password altogether which worked with 1.x iPhone software. I hope they can get this issues fixed soon. I understand the limitations of the SDK, but there has to be a way around this. I wouldn't mind a a redirect from 1password to Safari for every webpage I want to access that's secure. Also I'd like to see the ability to group logons. Having access to every logon from the app is cumbersome. Finally I should be able to se the level of security on either the iPhone or the desktop client.I'm hoping for a much improved app down the road. For now I'm not using it. And never mind the fact that the web based 1passwords is no longer supported. Now the decision is to wait it out and not access sites that use 20 digit passwords or stop using 1password altogether. - Version 1.0 - Jul 29, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Phanfave
FREE?  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
Are you kidding me? Free? I don't know what Agile Web Solutions business model is, but I like it. I got 1Password for the desktop via the MacHeist bundle (or more importantly, I read about 1Passwords iPhone bookmarklet, and bought the MacHeist bundle because of it), and then signed up for My1Password when it became available, and now this great iPhone app. I have given this company less than $20 bucks, and they have given me a world of useful services. I almost feel guilty taking this iPhone app for free. They really have done a lot, and they work hard and listen to feedback. They are truly a fantastic Mac developer. If you like this app go try their Mac desktop app. I've gotta sound like a shill, but look at the other reviews, we all love 1Password on the iPhone and on the desktop. - Version 1.0 - Jul 29, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Adam Y
By far THE BEST  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
First let me caveat my review by stating that I am not affiliated with Agile Web Solutions in any way. Second, I am not an Agile "cronie" who has been using their software. I recently discovered 1Pass in the app store. I did not know who Agile was or what they had to offer. My initial impression of the phone app was that it was "ok" since it seemed a bit tedious entering all the information. I decided to visit the Agile website and discovered the desktop companion program. Let me tell you that I never in a million years thought I would need something like this, but now that I have tried it, I could never live without it again. So I feel sorry for you windows users, because you will never realize the true power of this application. It's not just for passwords, it is for anything you want to keep secure (ie Wallet items, notes, etc..). Wallet items go beyond credit card, drivers lisences, etc... there are a multiple of formats to choose from (Airport settings, iTunes, passports, other licenses, FTP settings, Bank information, and the list goes on). Secure notes are good for items that do not fall into "wallet" categories. For example, I saved my vehicle door lock/unlock codes (which I could never remember) and now I have all my information at my fingertips. The ability to spot "phishing" sites immediately is awesome. The multi level security uses the built in features and encryption of the Mac keychain. What does this mean? This means that your sensitive information is resident on your machine and your machine only. Nothing is kept on a website. The ability to sync the phone app with the companion desktop application is awesome.I have also heard that the guys at Agile always listen to their customers as shown by the amount of updates that these guys put out. Keeping up with consumer demand speaks volumes about the dedication to their customers and their product.Features I would like to see incorporated:1. The ability to have "other" within the Wallet items which would allow the user to customize the entry. Example, I use VPN for work on a Windows laptop, and there are several log in items and passwords that I wanted to capture. I used the "FTP" format to fill in the info, which worked but it shows as "FTP" in "kind".Great Job on this app guys.As far as the people reporting crashes... you have corrupt firmware on your phone. Quit blaming the developers for something that is not even their problem.Corrupt firmware is caused by the method YOU used to update your phone. iTunes 7.7 is largely responsible for that. If you just docked your phone and let iTunes do everything (backup all personal data, and stream the update while it was simultaneously downloading), there is a good chance that your firmware is corrupt (experiencing lags, Wifi signal strength, etc) and is the cause for most unstable applications.Everyone using the method outlined below has ZERO issues with 2.0.1. Unsync all your personal data OFF the phone (music, contacts, calendars, videos, etc). This will leave approx 210mb of "other" (your old firmware). The reason you should do this is due to the fact that iTunes encounters errors while trying to back all your junk up as part of the update process.2. Download the update WITHOUT installing. Do not try and stream the update while it is happening.3. Install the update. This will take 10-15 minutes because you don't have any personal data to back up and it will reduce the chances for any errors.4. Resync your data back into your phone.5. Enjoy bug free use of your phone. In summary, don't blame Agile for your crashes because you did not mitigate risk while updating your phone. - Version 1.2 - Aug 3, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Bear_Hunter
5 Stars?!  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
Shouldn't something at least *work* to get a 5 star review? And how can an app be "very buggy" and still get that kind of rating? Review the product based on merit, not as a fan of the software development company. It's not fair to users and it's not fair to Agile. The fact is this app might eventually be fantastic, like the desktop version - but the current version for the iPhone is AWFUL. Terrible. Crashes constantly. This might not be entirely the fault of the developers, but it doesn't really matter.Looking forward, here's hoping the updated version works as it should... - Version 1.0 - Jul 29, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Pookie Badmuffin

THE BEST "MASTER KEY" FOR YOUR iPHONE AND MAC  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
I've been using 1password for 8 months on my Mac. Sometimes I think how could I live without it. It's one of the best applications of all times. It saves you time and best of all, you never have to remember any of your passwords, only one MASTER KEY. How great! I am so happy to see this app on my iphone. Even if it is little buggy those guys from agilewebsolutions will fix it soon. I get emails with info about updates and what's new in next version all the time. How many passwords to you have to remember?.... I remember only ONE!! The rest is in 1password "hands". Some problems  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
Crashes like every other program. The biggest problem I have is with websites that ask security questions after you log in. There is no keyboard to type anything. Unfortunately most of my secure sites frequently ask security question so this program doesn't help me at all. Looks great and feels very secure though:) Dev's, sorry for knocking off a couple stars but with no keyboard in the browser menu it really makes this program useless. Also, any drop down menu is going to stop you in your tracks as well. - Version 1.0 - Jul 29, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Baileya1c

Developers: Please Add a Self-Destruct Mode  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
The app is good but is missing a key component which would give iPod/iPhone owners peace of mind if their devices were lost or stolen. Developers, please add an optional self-destruct mode which will destroy all data when incorrect unlock codes are entered more than a certain number of times. This will help prevent others from obtaining private information stored within the app if the iPod/iPhone is lost or stolen. If fellow customers agree, please click yes so we can get this request to the top of the list of reviews and help the developers make an even better product for us to use. Thanks. - Version 1.3.2 - Sep 17, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by Too4tune8

WiFi Syncing in iPhone 1.0 + Desktop 2.8 = Brilliant Apps!  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
This application is the perfect compliment to the 1st Class Desktop App. Agile once again has proven themselves to be on the cutting edge and their commitment to innovation is beyond amazing! If you are dealing with multiple Macs, the Desktop App, the My1Password service and the iPhone App will easily keep you synced. I thought the original iPhone Bookmarklet was awesome, but once I saw the secure WiFi Syncing in 2.8 of the Desktop App, that just put it over the edge! Close, but not like the desktop version  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
I was very excited to use this application, I absolutely love the desktop application! Being forced to use the agile web browser instead of the safari means this is a non-starter. On the positive side the program syncs well with the desktop application, It is also works as a good storage location for passwords, but without cut/paste to use the safari browser there is no way I can type in any of my generated passwords into the safari browser. Until the SDK allows interaction between safari and a native application I don't know where this will go. The bookmarklet was elegant and a system like that needs to be designed. . .this is not it. - Version 1.0 - Jul 30, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by gravescp
Doesn't work for me at all  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
So I paid for the upgrade as I've been a satisfied desktop 1password user. As soon as I completed my sync to get my passwords onto the iPhone app, it stopped working. Now it only starts up and crashes immediately upon entering my unlock code. I'm very disappointed, especially as in the FAQs for this app, it's stated that this is a known issue with 1.0 and we need to wait for an upgrade for this to work.1.0 iPhone 1password=FAIL - Version 1.0 - Jul 30, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by sean808080
Great Start  Iphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application StarIphone Application Star
I have used 1P on my Mac for about 6 months and love it. I am so happy to see it made as a native app for the iPhone. However, while installing and setting it up was very easy, the implementation needs work. Primarily, it needs to either have a full browser with keyboard built in, or it needs to find a way to hand your login off to Safari. Great start though, and I can't complain about the price. - Version 1.0 - Jul 29, 2008 - 1Password for iPhone review by CasinoOwl
