Big Disappointment   I've been a loyal Splash Money user on the Palm Treo for years. I can't even believe this is the same company that made the iPhone version. I read the reviews before buying the app and just couldn't believe the program could be as bad as everyone was saying....ufortunately it is. I don't know where to start:1. It has problems keeping the dates in order2. Some records don't sync between iPhone and desktop - this seems to be random, but is a real pain3. The password control feature simple doesn't work at all - Every time I try to set a password the program crashes4. It is a lot slower that the Palm versionI could go on, but I'm just so annoyed with the whole thing I'll stop here. This is a good way to ruin Splash Data's reputation.

Is This The Best We Can Do?   My bank was covered in the list, so I can't gripe on the "compatible" banks. What I can do, though, is tell you that this app gets about halfway there when it comes to a good/simple personal finance app on the iPhone. First of all, expect crashes, and a lot of them. I had no less than five when setting up my accounts. I'm not sure who to blame there, since Apple's 2.0 software update has been less than stellar so far. Don't let me forget to mention the mandatory five-second splash screen before you even get access to the app. Second, decimal places are disabled by default, causing an $8.51 transaction to show up as $9. Enabling decimal places gives you $23.7 amounts for a $23.70 transaction. Stupid, right? Lastly, the pie chart gives you a "100% Uncategorized" by default, since you have to manually assign categories to every transaction. I don't have that kind of time, and there are apps and services that do that automatically based on the payee's name. This apps needs work! - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Johnny Dangerously
Apple, how can you allow your loyal customers to be ripped off like this!   I don't understand how an app like this can be put up for sale in the app store. We have no way of running a trial on any of these programs before we buy, so we have to trust you, Apple, to look out for us and make sure bad software doesn't make its way on here. You have really let us down with this app. It crashes constantly, it absolutely does not do what it says it will do, it is pretty much useless. And now I am out $10. What a rip! I am going to try to get my money back. This is unacceptable. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Jonathan_Melville
Crashing all over the place   This initial version is crashing all over the place. I haven't been able to complete creating an account without the app crashing out.
Multiple crashes in different basic use cases is very lame for a $10 dollar app. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Marcel Molina
Great app! Ideal for managing finances, expenses, etc!   I always wanted to have an app that can help me keep track of my finances on my iPhone. It was just what I was looking for and more to manage my money. Well worth the price. I have used the SplashMoney desktop version in the past with my Treo. Now looking forward to using it with the iPhone. Thank you and keep me updated.. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by iphoneipodtouchplaya
Crippling flaws galore   Because this app is of little use without a desktop app to sync with, this review also includes the SplashMoney desktop app that's supposed to sync with the iPhone.Problems:There's no choice or indication of where the data are being saved. Users need to know where private information is being stored on their systems, period. Where is SplashMoney putting this info? It's a complete mystery.Moving (or backing up) your data requires annoying export to QIF format, one account at a time. This means you lose future scheduled transactions entirely, and transfers are no longer classified as transfers. You can't even move data between different installations of SplashMoney itself. If you switch OSs, get a new computer, or install a new version of the OS on a different partition, you face this multi-account export/import rigamarole and lose the aforementioned data and the payees you entered. The default transaction type is a check, with a check number that's assigned by default. Not only are checks unlikely to be most people's most-common transaction anymore, but the default transaction type should be the last type used. Not so in SplashMoney, so just about every time you enter a transaction, you have to fuss with the transaction type. There's no "transfer" transaction type. Instead, there's an obscure and clumsy workaround: The account names are included in the Category list (not the Payee list, where they'd make sense); you have to open up the source account and create a withdrawal, setting the destination account as the "category". Again, why not the payee? Ludicrous. But wait, below the account list there's cryptic dual-arrow button with no ToolTip. You might think that this would kick off a sync, but in fact it seems to create a transfer. Why is this down here, separated from the other transaction types and undocumented? The documentation doesn't address the SplashMoney desktop app at all; it discusses everything in terms of the handheld UI.Switching between accounts causes you to lose your place in the transaction list (Mac version). If you're at the bottom of your Checking transactions and you need to refer to something in Savings, for example, you'll return to Checking to find it scrolled nearly to the top, every time. I was working in 2008 and suddenly found myself looking at transactions from five years earlier, never having touched the scrollbar. There's a checkbox next to each transaction, but there's no way to tell the app what status to give the transaction when you click on the checkbox. A transaction can be cleared or reconciled, but checking the box means always means "cleared" and there's no way to change that. So marking something as reconciled requires you to open up the transaction-detail dialog, and then open a list of statuses and pick "reconciled." This is one of the reasons I wanted to abandon Money, but even Money only makes you dig through one context menu. When you're reconciling the bank's statement with your own records, you just want to go through the lists and check each transaction off with minimal hassle. Digging through menus over and over again for every transaction? NO!The app doesn't associate a payee or source name with a transaction type, so you always have to mess with it. "Payee" should not be the first field in the transaction dialog; "transaction type" should be. The first thing you want to do when creating a transaction is say what kind of transaction it is. If it's a deposit, the payee is YOU, so the Payee field would more logically change to Payer. Then, if you entered the name of your employer, the category could default to Wages & Salary. All you'd have to do is type the first few characters of your employer's name, enter the date and amount, and be done. This is what happens in Money. In SplashMoney, you have to dig through the category list every time. Same thing goes for withdrawals: The vast majority of my purchases at Costco are gas, so if I enter "Costco" as the payee in Money, the category automatically defaults to "Auto: gas". In SplashMoney, I have to pick that manually, over and over. Some amounts (scheduled transactions, specifically) have "Rs" as the currency, even when they're entered in U.S. dollars. This apparently stands for rupees, and is a known bug that was supposed to have been fixed in version 4.03. However, the problem still appears in version 4.03.The desktop app was updated to 4.03 and is available at SplashData's site. The iPhone app was also supposedly updated a month ago with critical (as in crash-resolving) fixes, but the App Store is still listing 4.02 as the latest version. It must be harder than one would think to write a glorified transaction register, because SplashData fails here. Microsoft Money is cumbersome at times and doesn't sync with your iPhone, but it looks refined and ingenious next to SplashMoney. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by WhatHaveYou
Finally my iPhone is complete   This was the most missed application when I switch from my Palm treo a year ago. Now my iPhone can truly be all it was meant to be. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Jchun
Not too impressed...   So far, it's crashed every time I have used it. When adding almost all of my accounts, I get a blank screen when trying to add account. Seems very beta. If I were you, and your looking for solid online banking, I'd wait till either they work the bugs out, or another developer comes up with something better that actually works. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by bigfatgraphics
Very Nice and Functional   When I first loaded all my information, it crashed several times, but now that Zi set everything up, it seems to be more stable. It is very east to use and at the time I wrote this review, it is the only app like it. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by 7X70
Would be nice if it didn't constantly crash!   Was told on SplashData website that I would be allowed to get app for free (upgrade) because I paid for the Palm OS version. I hit the download button on the SplashData website and it took me to the iTunes store where it downloaded the app and charged my iTunes account. What's up with that?? So much for the free upgrade for a loyal customer. Palm version was great, never crashed - worked as advertised. This app constantly crashes evertime I try to add a transaction. Screen goes blank for a second and my iPod Touch goes back to its home screen and I lose all info on the transaction I just entered. Apple should test apps before they put them on their site and charge people for them. SplashData needs to work out the glitches in this buggy software and should issue refunds to all the poor souls who wasted their time downloading/paying for it. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by jrich08
Best mobile finance app   SplashMoney has been my faithful companion for many years to keep track of household finances. Easy to use, great features. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by GoodGadgetGuy
SplashMoney is right on the money   I've been really excited about this one since it was announced, and this version is definitely the best one yet. It's simple enough to be user-friendly, but still comprehensive enough to be practical for a wide variety of users. I especially like being able to create charts that break down my budgets and expenditures. Highly recommended. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by johnnyutah
Really Nice   I was thrilled to see that my credit union was listed as being supported, and it worked great. It was a little confusing to remember that I had to click on Account # for it to go out and get my account number from my CU, but besides that its nice. I just wish it could auto update so it has my bank totals when I open it, but I know that would require background support which Apple isn't giving us, and what they are giving us instead wont work for apps like this. That however is not at the fault of the developer. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by kdbdallas
Solid All-around   I tried a few other financial apps like Spend, Budget, and Balance (at least I think those were the names) and really wasn't very pleased with them. Splash has come up with an app that had everything I was looking for- a place to track expenses and transactions, a way to set and follow simple budgets, and has fully-customizeable categories. It's my most used app. Thanks Splash! - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by JJ Fox
Great App   I have used this app on other mobile devices and it has all been great. The nice thing is that you can see your monthly statements with graphs on your specific area of spending, be it food, gas, dining, or any category that you could make up. Another nice thing is that you can download your bank information from the internet, and it hosts most of the major banks. This is a must buy if you like to keep a close eye on your expenses. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by iPhoneJedi
Really nice app   This app is great, there is a large selection of banks. It's very handy having all your financial data aggregated on your phone. Note: This app does not deserve a low rating just because your bank is not listed as a supported bank. After all, could be your banks fault ;-) - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by browncf
Would not Recommend   Unless your bank offers free Direct Connect I would not recommend this app. My bank (Suntrust) charges $6 a month for Direct Connect and you need that service for this app to pull transactions automatically from your bank account. I wish they said that in the description because now i have to enter all my transactions manually. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Paw777
Bank charges fees to use this   What they don't tell you until AFTER you purchase the app is that many banks charge you additional fees to allow this software to connect to the bank. For example, with Wells Fargo you can't just use your free internet username and password, you need to pay an extra $3/month for Online Banking. SplashMoney should include this info in the description on the app store site. Although it looks like a nice app, I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew this.EDIT: Splash has since edited the description of the program to include that it does require additional fees at most banks. Should have been included from the start. Be aware when you buy this program for $9.99, you are going to be paying $40-50/year at most banks for the privilege of using it. I'll stick with free online banking. Wish there was a way in the App store to download demo versions before you commit to the full versions. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Paradoc
Love This App!   This app has been my life saver for the past 4 years, from Palm to Windows mobile and now MY IPHONE! The only limitations to this app come from the Iphone UI, not the app itself. Its been flawless on my other platforms for years. The fact that you have to pay your bank for access depends on your bank. I bank with Chase, Bank Of America and Fifth Third. All of the 3 allow me to download transaction free of charge. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by Mrgadgetguru!
Happy this app got ported to the iPhone   Clearly needs to have some bugs ironed out but the developers are working on this. A reset solved the crashing problems for me. This company did a good job with the Palm and Blackberry versions of Splashmoney so I'm sure they will polish this one up. I am eagerly awaiting the desktop component. It is very helpful to have all my bank balances at my fingertips. - SplashMoney - Personal Finance Manager review by bchaplin
