OK, so take off ONE star!   This is one of the apps that convinced me that moving from my Palm Treo to the iPhone was not going to mean giving up some great programs. Yes, it doesn't read multiple formats (that's your one star off), but a 50,000 book library and VERY good features make this the app to have if you plan to comfortably use your iPhone or Touch as a book device. Bookmarking, graphics, font choices and, most importantly, an outstanding collection of titles are some things to take a look at. If you are in doubt, check out their main site. Thanks, eReader, for coming over to our side!

Fantastic   I have a lot of purchased ebooks from ereader. I use to read alot on me palm PDA, but my iPod touch has pratically replaced it. I am very happy with this reader. All I need is a simple reader to read my purchased ebooks, nothing fancy.

Does exactly what it says   This app is great, people just need to read the description carefully. It allows you to buy (hint: there are SEVERAL free books you can "buy") from one specific website. Yes, thats unfortunate - but rate how the program works, not what its not open to! The app is awesome, it does exactly what I wanted it to do, and then some. I gave it 4 stars because of its ease of use, the perfect way it works, and the ability to download books directly from the websites. -1 star for only having 2 website, but according to the FAQ file this should be expanded to other sites shortly, which would make it 5 stars for me. This app is a real keeper!

Don't believe the nay-sayers   I have used eReader since 1999 on devices from Palm to Windows Mobile and now iPhone. The iPhone app lets you keep your bookshelf on eReader.com and download them directly when you want to read. I can download and read the first book I bought almost 10 years ago... You can purchase books from either eReader or Fictionwise.Very smooth interface, keeps your place in multiple books at once. Highly recommended. There is a free desktop app available on eReader.com to create your own books, but not sure how to get them on the iPhone... I would expect an update from eReader that will let you do that with the books you create.

Vendor lock in nightmare   This app works well as a reader, but you can only use it to download books you buy from their site. Doesn't work with text files you already own.
Check out the iPhone app, 'bookshelf' for an ebook reader that lets you install your own books and files. - eReader review by di11rod
For eReader Customers   I've been a customer of eReader since 2000... back then I think it was called Peanut Press. I've used eReader on the Palm and on a Windows platform since then. For those unfamiliar with eReader, in addition to the "proprietery" books you can purchase you create your own eBooks with their software. I've used their software to create books from Project Gutenburg content and other sources. If you are an eReader customer with a library of books you have purchased from the service over the years, this is an essential app for your iPhone or iPod Touch. I'm nearly at the point where I can completely retire my Palm OS device with the release of this app... However some features are missing and will likely be desired by eReader customers.1. You cannot add books without connecting to the store via the web. 2. Because of this, you cannot add very large books to your iPhone/iPod Touch... I bought Websters Third New International Dictionary (Unabridged) and can't get it to sync3. Also, it takes time to download your books to the device... The ability to import form your computer would be much less tedious4. You cannot add books you have created with eBookStudio5. You cannot "autoscroll" books like you can on other PDAs6. The swipe required to turn pages is awkward (I agree with another commenter on this... a tap would be better)7. You cannot customize background or font color8. There is a limited selection of fontsDespite these limitations, this is a great first blush of the application... especially since it's free. eReader customers know that the company typically provides a free "lite" reader and a pro version packed with more features that comes with a price tag. I'm looking forward to the Pro version, but this will do nicely until then. - eReader review by DDanineSmith
A fantastic ebook reader...finally a (good) way to read on the iPhone.   I used to read every night on my Sony Clie using eReader. I liked the backlight, the ease of use and the ability to keep the lights off as to not disturb my sleeping wife. Eventually, the Clie broke, and I briefly considered purchasing the Sony Reader and the Amazon Kindle. But, I just couldn't talk myself into it, because as cool as they are, I really want a backlit screen so that I can read at night and in the dark. The iPhone had such promise, and it was technically possible to read a PDF version of a book, but it wasn't friendly or easy in any way to do so. The eReader changes all that. Now I can read at night, read in the dark, and use my very favorite gadget to do so. I should note that I was buying all my books from eReader.com before I purchased the iPhone, so I have a pretty huge library to choose from already. If you are in the same boat, then this is a very fantastic solution for accessing your library on your iPhone. If not, you should consider it. eReader is a well stocked and reasonablly priced solution for ebook reading. I recommend it. And, thank you, apple for allowing apps on the iPhone, and eReader for making the app. :) My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that you can't purchase and download new books directly to the iPhone....yet. Not so FAST...   Don't even think this app will work with your current library saved on your computer. All of my books that I purchased online and downloaded and are in the ereader format are useless with this app. - eReader review by Apple][Guy
Not so hot.   If you're looking for a general purpose ebook reader, or to find a front end that allows you to use things like Project Gutenberg etexts, this is not for you. Rather, it is a feature-light front end to a proprietary store. - eReader review by jxdxbx
Nice Start   Overall I feel this is a good start for eBook reading on the iPhone. UI is responsive and easy to understand. The feature set is a little sparse but the app is easy to understand and performs well. There are some missing features that I hope will be added soon. First, I would prefer some alternative ways to scroll. The slide method works ok (sliding your finger acrross the screen) but I much prefer the tap bottom/top method of scrolling from page to page common to most readers.. Second is support for non-purchased books. I would love to make eReader my only book reader but I need the ability to load text and html (PalmDoc would be great too.) Lastly we really need some better color support. I much prefer light text on a dark background and eReader currently doesn't appear to have support for anything but the default black on white color scheme.Over all it's a great start and it's great to be able to read books on my iPhone after a year of waiting. - eReader review by Jake Pratt
The Killer iPhone App For Me!   I'll now get an iphone. I said I'd buy an iPhone when they developed an ebook reader. I'm really excited that it is eReader, the same program I had on my Palm. eReader was for me my favorite Palm program. It is powerful yet straight forward and easy to use. The dictionary integration ability is superb and has helped me with vocabulary over the last 5 years. The iphone may not be as easy to read on as a dedicated ebook reader but my iphone will always be with me. I highly recommend this program. - eReader review by Nyimbo
Locked in, then locked up! eReader = TEH FAIL.   This is a reader for a PROPRIETARY eReader format. I tried downloading some of the 20 (only twenty!) free books available on that website, but after requiring a credit card (!), the site gave me errors until I added a non-free book for $7.50.The app itself is okay, but when I chose "Download all books," it told me it was an unsupported feature, then locked up my iPod Touch, requiring a restart. Not cool! - eReader review by NicholasM!
Nice, but how do you connect to Fictionwise.com?   Oddly, this app works well with eReader.com. It is supposed to also connect to Fictionwise (I have a far larger library there,) but there is no obvious way to set that up.The user interface and display clarity are nice. I am looking forward to retiring my Palm altogether. - eReader review by HaraldS
Take note, Steve Jobs!   As a longtime reader of eReader e-books on my Palm, I'm SOOOO happy to see this app on my iPod touch. The device is *perfect* for reading on the run, and I hope the inevitable popularity of this app proves to Steve Jobs that people DO read books! - eReader review by justrick1701
Finally! I can read my books again!   I've been using this application for years on my Palm Computer. I've got hundreds of books in my library and its the program I missed the most when I gave up my Treo for an iPhone. I'm dancing with Joy. It's been a while since I purchased a book from eReader.com because I couldn't read them on my iPhone. I found it to be very easy to read on my Treo screen, the iPhone screen is even better to read with. I like the text search function as well as having a table of contents to easily find where I was at or jump around in a book. This iPhone rendition is just like I remember on my Treo but better! I've also converted my own books to take with me using there eBook Studio. Outstanding! - eReader review by Emgahs
Great App   This is a great application, the only one that lets you get the well known authors (legally at least). The people who say it's "vendor lock" aren't reading the blogs and reviews, Fictionwise has said they are opening it up to other vendor's ebooks within a week. What do those reviewers say about kindle? That's the ultimate vendor lock, only a single piece of hardware can read the books. With ereader format there are hundreds of supported devices to read on, iphone just the latest. - eReader review by dman12kp
Great for the business traveler   I've used eReader for years on other devices, has been a fantastic way to carry lots of books while on the road - thanks for porting it to the iPhone! - eReader review by jsgreen
Hey not so fast with the bad reviews   The reviews stating that you cannot read other site's ereader format books is true, for now. However, the makers of this software at their website have promised by the end of July an update that will allow you to download from other sites than Fictionwise or Ereader.com or place ereader format books from your own files on the iPhone to be read by this software. It's all on the Ereader site, folks. Don't be so hasty in your judgements and read the publsihers release notes on their site for a clue to where they are heading. When they finally do this, and I hope it is the end of July as promised, then I will be converting many of my other non DRM ebooks into ereader format using software easily available on line and reading them with eReader. Yes, you can take your HTML, test, word, RTF, pdf format ebooks and convert them to ereader format - as long as they are not protected by DRM. Just google it, folks. eReader for iPhone will soon be as functional as the Windows Mobile and Palm versions, but much prettier :) - eReader review by Testicules
My favorite PDA app finally on the iPhone!   It is great to finally have eReader on my iPhone. This is application I missed when I switched to the iPhone. The app itself is very well done. The screen and fonts are great, of course. And the software is very bug-free for a version 1.0 release.Uploading books is very easy and done over the air. You login into your eReader account and can choose from the books you have purchased. I have 250+ books so it took a little awhile to upload my titles. Once the titles are shown on the iPhone you simply select it to download it. I did this over a Wi-Fi connection but since the books are relatively small it will probably work well over EDGE (and 3G).eReader's DRM has always been very simple and, I think, effective. They simply use your credit card and name to encode the text of the book.Who needs a Kindle?!!Thanks Fictionwise! - eReader review by rdevillers
Thank you!   Simply, thank you. thank you, thank you! This has been my favorite application for years. It has been used with many different PDA/smartphone gadgets, and now I can enjoy it on an iPod touch/iPhone. - eReader review by MLove
